Tekken 7 PC performance thread

There really should also be an option on consoles to turn off effects like film grain and chromatic aberration, especally when they are that intrusive and when they make the IQ look worse. I don't know why they still force these effects down console gamers' throats. :/

Chromatic Aberration is used as a cheap AA alternative by developers. But it looks horrible.I'd rather deal with aliasing. It makes me physically ill to look at an image with CA for extended periods of time.

What would one recommend I put the resolution scaling on? I run it 3840x2160 on a 1080p monitor. So I'm basically downsampling from 4K? And my scaling is at 90.

Seems like an odd solution towards AA and gain performance.

You use DSR to go to 4K, then tell the game to render at 90% of that, then finally downsample to 1080p?

Why not just use DSR at a lower setting and leave resolution scaling off.

In pretty much every game ive tested DSR vs Res Scaling, DSR give better everything performance and quality.

So unless DSR is giving you issues just use a good DSR and leave Res Scaling at 100%

Yeah, I never really thought of the effect that way until T7 but it really does serve that purpose.

but yeeesh it's so heavy in this game

Yup.
I'll take aliasing any day. I don't think it looks awful like CA, and it doesn't give me a headache or make me nauseous.
There's no way I'm even going to consider the console version of this game.

So this was running flawlessly just moments ago on my rig (1070/i7 2600k), I had matches both offline and online at a consistent 60fps. Now out of nowhere after opening the game i'm getting stuttering/lag straight from the get go, game starts lagging as early as when the Bandai logo comes up and Jin and Kazuya throw punches.

On the main menu the framerate is constantly shifting between 30-50fps with a lot of lag whilst cycling through the menu, in-game is more or less the same performance. I've tried installing the Tekken 7 Nvidia driver, moving the game from my SSD to HDD, restarting/shutting down my computer and changing graphic settings all to low but their is still no change. Temp/Load on my GPU and CPU seem normal so nothing strange is going on there, I just opened up Vanquish and The Witcher 3 to see if it could be my computer acting up but they're both running fine.

Anyone else suffering from this or have any suggestions?

EDIT: Never mind, it was my Hori Commander 4 causing this, weird right. Unplugged it and the framerate suddenly went back to 60, plugged it back in and the framerate tanked. I solved this by flicking the switch on the pad to change it to Dualshock 3 mode instead of 4. This is even more weird because i'm sure it was in Dualshock 4 mode earlier when the framerate was fine. Whatever at least it's fixed now, time for some Tekken!
A very similar issue happened with my Hori Real Arcade Pro 4 stick except the framerate was constantly down in the 40s/30s, everything stuttered like mad and it didn't read directional inputs properly. Switching it to PS3 mode solved all my issues.

Yup, non-gsync users will be getting some input lag with vsync on
I don't think that's correct

Yeah, I'm trying to find a solution. I found one post on reddit but I haven't tried it out myself yet:

Have you tried experimenting with older drivers? That seemed to do the trick for several AMD folks.

How do I turn off DSR?

If you don't know how to turn it off, then you don't have it on ;) It's a "3D setting" in the Nvidia control panel that is disabled by default and completely reverts to said state whenever you update or otherwise install Nvidia's drivers.

I was having the D3D issue with my R9 380. Downgraded to 16.11.5, and switched to Fullscreen from Borderless. Seems to have done the trick for now.

I GOT RID OF THE FUCKING GRAIN!!

Some quick googling about unreal engine 4, added this to the same scalibility.ini file

r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0

so here is my file now

Code:
[PostProcessQuality@2]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0

[PostProcessQuality@3]
r.SceneColorFringeQuality=0
r.Tonemapper.GrainQuantization=0

this file for anyone just seeing this now
C:\Users\*user*\AppData\Local\TekkenGame\Saved\Config\WindowsNoEditor\Scalability.ini

Thank you so much. The image is so much clearer, I feel like I can see shit now.

Man this games looks like a totally different game once you get rid of CA and grain filter and run it 4K, so much detail was getting lost with those effects on.

Hmm, there does seem to be a problem with the 380 and UE4 in general. Trying your luck with older drivers is your best bet at this juncture.

Great news! It's finally working properly. Rolling back to 16.11.5 fixed the issue. There was a bit of a setback with Windows 10 automatically updating me to 17.1.1, but I took care of that. If it starts crashing again, I'll edit my post. But hopefully this'll help anyone that has a similar issue.

Glad to hear it!

RX 480 8gb user here on 17.5.2 drivers

So AMD's virtual super resolution doesn't work with this game? I can only go up to my monitor's native resolution (1080p). That aside, that film grain removal edit doesn't work for me.

Re: grain removal: the command is not the right one apparently, you have to yturn down post processing to medium. Not sure what else gets affected if anything though.

The worst offenders on the PS4 Pro are poor texture filtering and dialed back ambient occlusion it seems.
I would have thought at least the texture filtering would be improved on the Pro. Disappointing :/

PC monitors also have better picture quality in general and unfortunately consoles can not take full advantage of a computer monitor.

It would be better to compare PC/PS4 Pro screenshots on a Digital TV instead.

The screenshots dont care whether it was a TV or monitor that they were captured on.
Cuz they dont actually use the TV/Monitor for the capture its all internal.

Lol, that is insane, SMAA would be a better option regardless. And I agree that it's horrible(most of the time).

I think CA as a post process effect is pretty much free...? As opposed to any other AA solution, even something as light as FXAA

i3 4170
gtx 960
16 gbs of ram

AA is turned off and everything else is on Ultra. Rock solid 60 fps. I haven't tried it with AA on. Gonna give that a shot. Game is optimized very well from everything I've read.

did we figure out if the resolution scale settings are borked? for example, does running this at 50% resolution scale in 3840x2160 get a noticeably slower framerate than natively rendering in 1920x1080?

Any word on whether or not they plan to patch in graphics options that allow you to turn off some of this stuff as opposed to .ini tweaks?

Always a gamble. They don't seem to have acknowledged user displeasure at the feature just yet, so my guess is that it won't be happening super quick. Wouldn't count on it.

I just tested for the sake of testing, I didn't backup my original ini file so I went in and just deleted the copy pasted lines to see if it would revert settings, and it does... So it's an easy fix if you somehow decide you'd rather go back to having CA on.

I can't get the film grain removed. I've found the (previously empty) scalibility file, pasted the lines from this thread, changed it to read only, but the grain is still there.
What am I doing wrong?

Does this work even with Post Process set to Ultra? Are there any other post processing effects that get eliminated by dropping to medium (as the OP suggests) that I should be concerned about at all?

Maybe try changing the file to read only.
Already did that. The grain is gone if I lower post processing quality in-game in the graphics settings, without the ini tweak too, but it's there as soon as I flip to Ultra again.

Not sure what else gets removed if you lower post processing quality though. Maybe only the grain goes away?
Looks amazing both ways imo but with all the talk about how great it looks after the ini tweak I want in on that too.

Another thing, what changes with rendering scale? I tried go to 150 from 100 but I can't notice what changed.

Steam, a few people noticed that the grain command does not work, but the CA one is doing wonders. You can check it yourself by comparing on Precipice of Fate or Abandoned Temple.

So that means it's not the paramater being used.
But lots of people have seen the film grain get removed too. Maybe it only work in certain Windows versions or with certain GPUs?

Windows 10, 980ti here, latest Nvidia drivers, with the grain still there after the ini-tweak unless I lower the post processing quality. It's less visable on some stages though.

RX470+FX-6300, unless I turn down the sampling below 100% render, AND do everything on low, random stuff causes stuttering like:
-Akuma's half circle back fireball BEING BLOCKED (and thus spawning special effects)
-the Round X : Fight effect disappearing

And stuff like this.

Really maddening to see something like this affecting gameplay, but hey. Japanese devs* and pc, still not a good match apparently.
*Not Every Japanese Dev, obviously. But I really do not want to have to hunt for slowdowns like this....

I think PostProcessQuality@2 is for High and PostProcessQuality@3 is for Ultra

I'd heard that AMD's recent drivers may have some issue with UE4. I know on NVidia side right now this game seems pretty impeccable performance wise.

Game is running flawlessly on my RX480. Never experienced noticeable slowdowns (ultra/1080p).

I am running on the pre-prey driver btw, so not the absolute latest one.

What CPU are you on? I am starting to suspect that this FX-6300 will drive me straight to the grave.
