Test Drive: Ferrari Announced

BigBen interactive has announced to be publishing the newest edition of the legendary Test Drive franchise, titled “Test Drive Ferrari”.

Following the two open-world Test Drive Unlimited titles developed by Eden Games, the new title apparently centers around the iconic Italian sports car make.

Little is known about the upcoming title aside from its release date as Test Drive Ferrari will be available to PC, XBox 360 and Playstation 3 owners starting March 30 2012.

And while the Test Drive Unlimited titles weren’t too much to the liking of fans of realistic racing, this may very well be one title to watch for sim racers.

People are saying this is Slightly Mad Studios' Ferrari Project...

Wasn't Test Drive Unlimited 2 supposed to be more sim than TDU1? TDU2 ran bad on my pc, Driver San Francisco runs awesomely.

Shit! It is by Slightly Mad Studios (CARS, Shift).

Definitely looking forward to this game now.

Loved the open world TDU series. If this is a step back towards simply racing then not interested, Forza covers that genre for me.

first I've heard of this, but not shocking considering I've never even heard of that publisher.

TDU was truly a great game, but what a shame that TDU2 turned out to be a clusterfuck of bad ideas, horrible servers, and virtually no support after release. I'll never buy another game Atari had even the smalllest involvement in.

Who the hell is BigBen? Doesn't "Atari" own the TD license?

I think Atari dropped them and the license. I'm sure it's from SMS.

If you're in the states on 360 though, let's hope it's region free. Only releasing for EU at this point.

...The very successful TEST DRIVE license with the new opus called TEST DRIVE: FERRARI – the ultimate driving experience for fans of the Ferrari Brands and the racing games. TEST DRIVE: FERRARI will be the 20th title of this impressive and successful collection. The last episode has reached 1.5 million sell-out worldwide.

Bigben Interactive will release the title in most major European countries besides the United Kingdom on March 30, 2012. It will be available on PS3™/Xbox360™/PC.

The Ferraris looked great in Shift, it'll be wonderful to see SMS release a game similar to C.A.R.S., using those graphics assets without any EA influence to crap it up or make it more drifty arcade like.

Didn't they do a brand-specific Test Drive game during last gen? I remember something like it and I don't think it was that fun...

I wish they'd expand on the open-world feel of TDU while dropping the whole social aspect of it with the casino garbage. I really enjoyed TDU 1 while TDU 2 just didn't do anything for me.

TD is still an Atari trademark. Bigben just secured the distribution rights for Europe, NA will be handled by someone else.

Full news will come soon.

F2008 at Imola, right?

Hmm. I dont know. I'm a massive Ferrari fan and motorsport nut, but a game consisting solely of Ferrari's isn't as interesting to me. And its been done before.

It'll have to be something seriously special to get me interested.

Nice.

I hope it still has the classic F1 cars:

TDU2 on 360 worked extremely well for me. Only bad part was being in the cities when others were driving around you. That and the awful "story" Visually and driving gameplay wise TDU2 smokes the original.

My goodness this news has excited me. I never quite clicked with TDU2 like I did with the original TDU but I love the franchise and I'm rather partial to SMS too.

Definitely looking forward to this game now.

Yes, the Ferrari cars in Shift 1 looked and played incredibly well (being included as DLC, they seemed to have a much improved handling over the cars in the base game). Together with the great track-selection that SMS always seems to be able to include, I'm really looking forward to this.

This name was appeared in online stores databases for months (it was an October supposed released). The name got my attention but if Slightly Mad Studios is involved it will sure be a must buy.

I never played TDU but loved TDU2. I guess not having a frame of reference from the original game helps. Most of the problems were patched pretty quickly and they added some new content to the game for free (PC version). I've put about 40 hours into it and would like to play some more.

I thought TDU2 was a good sounding game. I think the concept was solid and something I'd like to buy. The reason I didn't is because reviews said the cars handled poorly, which is kinda important in a driving game.

Making a Ferrari specific game doesn't interest me much. I think they were on the right track before they just need to make something that plays properly.

SMS = will not buy from me. Shift 2 was terrible. I really wanted to like it too.

Pretty much because of EA. I know for a fact EA had them change up the physics for Shift 1 before release, probably did for Shift 2 as well. They sure had a lot of influence about the trackside details, and the direction they wanted the game to go.

I have faith in SMS, I've been following C.A.R.S. and the reports are that the physics are very solid.

This should be what Shift 1 was going to be without EA stepping in.
