TF2 Engineer update incoming?

I'm more interested in Battle Engie tactics with the moving Sentry :)

Imagine if you will, a level which has a waiting period before it starts. Think Gravel Pit, where you could build up a sentry just beforehand, then sneak your way around to the backlines and let your sentry go full pelt.

My around-the-back-secret-teleport Badwater Basin strategy is going to be all the sweeter :D

Monday Night Combat which is coming to XBLA in a month (and when it eventually comes out for PC I'm telling you all to buy it) has something similar to the Heroes of Newerth and League of Legends type games, where you try to push an offensive with weak bots while also defending against the opponents and their bots, but in this case it's a lot more similar to payload race than payload.

I already have a number of semi-sneaky spots I like to put sentries up for one or two kills. CTF maps are great for this. I can't wait for the Frontier Justice as well...

My favorite at the moment is a corner in Badwater Basin.

If you're on blue you can jump off of the top window and down into this little corner without much trouble. Have your sentry building out and drop and run back up the stairs. Most Reds won't notice it, and if you're lucky you'll avoid any opposing Engineers as well :D

This will be awesome with movable sentry :D

Ha, when I'm blue I usually stick a sentry on a balcony at the same time as, or at least right after an uber push. Since everyone, especially Pyros, end up running out to try and dance around the uber, it's a lot easier and safer than having to jump down until after I see one or two sentries destroyed.

But now, if Red's got a Wrangled sentry, their Engie can be all "oh shit, Blu Engie!" and take you down personally.

My best engi strategy is to go into map room as blue, and build get to the elevated section (you can figure this out, it's not hard) and then plant a sentry at the top of the stairs looking almost into their spawn. Set up a teleporter and go to business. Whenever I get a lvl 3 up there and lvl 3 tele, we usually win the round in the next minute :lol

I wonder if they temper the added ability by making you lose your carried sentry if you die.

I was thinking about that, and I wish that if anyone kills you, your carried sentry OPENS WHEN IT HITS THE GROUND, INSTANTLY SETTING UP AND DESTROYING THOSE WHO WOULD DARE TOUCH YOU. :lol

By far my favorite is underneath the ledge on the back side of CP B on Gravelpit while you are on blue team. If the enemy doesn't catch you building, you can get it upgraded quickly thanks to the ammo box nearby and the ammo dropped by dead/surprised enemies.

Just like any shot projectile. How much travel time do sentry bullets have? It's always been hard to tell thanks to the delay in locking onto the person.

That would certainly make sneaking around a lot more chancy since you have to take the time to rebuild each time you spawn. I guess it's a wash though since you would have to do that anyways close to enemy lines. At spawn it'll be quicker with the unlimited ammo.

I need to get a script that'll turn any of corpses into a timebomb.
 
If you transport a level 3 sentry I would not be surprised if upon laying it down again it goes through an entire build-level2-level3 animation process, to help balance it out you know.

That would hardly make it a useful ability. If it's gonna be the an upgrade like the airblast, I think it'll only go through the animation once.

Also, I don't think dispensers/teleporters will be carryable.
 
I wish the buildings were movable like in the PC Battlezone games. You just point to the ground where you want to to move and it packs up and floats/drives over there. In BZ there's a long vulnerable time where it's "planting" itself back into the ground where it's totally defenseless.

I can't see that strat working on the servers I frequent. A decent spy will wreck that shit, plus there are a lot of snipers in that vicinity and SOMEONE is going to alert the rest of the team that something is set up there. Could also see people spamming in from the other side of the spawn door. Hell, even when I get into the map room, I'm already meeting resistance, or snipers from the far side, or people just jumping over to get at your team faster.

yeah letting you transport level 3 would be too much imo, you can build a l3 sentry pretty much right at the start so being able to then pick that up would be bullshit

Do you know how it would really work and how much time it would cost to pack your sentry? There is no way that this is instant like "click" sentry packed, "click" sentry built.

IIRC they tend to come out in the evening, maybe around 7-9. It's likely going to take an hour or so for servers to get updated.

As a promo for the Engineer update Valve is giving out 100 gold wrenches randomly to people who have been crafting. The wrenches are identical to regular ones, except that when you kill someone with them they turn to a gold statue.

Valve is giving golden wrenches out to 100 players this time

I think someone on the server last night ("mhmm", one of the loudest people ever besides maybe Clown? :lol) said that 6 people have been VAC banned and lost their wrenches so far.

...if even BOONOO says it's only "decent", then does that mean it's actually TRULY horrible?

...or if Boonoo says it's only "decent", does that mean it's actually great since Boonoo's map preferences are clearly upside down?

On the plus side, it sounds like it might be snow or mountain themed! On the downside, I don't know if they ever fixed their koth viaduct performance issues! I think I used to get 20-30 fps in the middle of that map.

Only the middle area is snow, the rest is inside. It's a fun enough map, though a little flat for my taste. I've only played it 3 or 4 times, though. I remember liking the mid fight, though.
