TF2 Engineer update incoming?

So it's widely known and acknowledged that the pyro is a she?

I just went into TF2 and it told me to give 'her' a try in that little class recommendation thingy

Valve jokes around and adds that in there (it's 50/50 whether it'll say him or her), but they're never gonna say either way.

I think I have concluded the gunslinger is kind of like the huntsman. It seems pretty useless especially if you're not good at aiming revenge crits, but I had a good bit of fun using it tonight. My favorite tactic is putting it up at a long straight path, and then abusing its auto-aim and ridiculous accuracy to spam groups of enemies and get assists and kills.

(My comparison with the huntsman is because generally, a good rifle sniper is presumably 10 times better than a good huntsman sniper, but I still think the huntsman is one of the most fun, satisfying weapons in the game to use. And it's also fun to annoy enemies with, perhaps kinda like the gunslinger. I actually think I'm better with the huntsman than the rifle generally, perhaps because the huntsman rewards spamming more.)

Is the gunslinger supposed to crit on the third punch? Because I've never had it crit. I know on the loadout it says no crits but in the wiki it says every third punch will be a crit. :S

Yeah, but it feels weird to me. I think I have had it crit, but in sudden death I'm almost sure I killed at least two people, with probably 3-4+ punches, and I didn't notice any crit icon/sound/effect that I can recall. Maybe it has to be a combo? (that'd be tough)

I think you're not alone, in that some people (possibly even ME sometimes) may enjoy playing what's essentially deathmatch, with occasional intel capturing thrown in, on 2-fort.

And I can certainly understand the desire for quicker spawn times when I wait something like 17 seconds to spawn, walk out the door to try to defend a point, get blown up by the 7 stickies on the exit, and wait another 10-20 seconds to do it again. :/ It's not much time but it adds up sometimes.
I prefer larger games, with quicker respawn times. Anything less than 5 seconds kind of annoys me. And the 15second ones are unbearable.

I like the grind of the 32-man instant respawn maps. It's a good break from objective games to go 150 kills/10 deaths in 2fort as a defending demoman against terrible random players.

So many damned Failgineers. We may not be completing the objectives or even putting up a fight, but damn if we don't have spawn on lockdown with a bunch of tele entrances (with no matching exits!) and level 3 sentries.

It just gets to the point where I give up on my team and the objective, switch to Scout, equip Bonk, get behind enemy lines and just troll the other team because there's nothing else you can do but cherry pick their tele entrances, snipers, medics and engi's. Low hanging fruit, but at least you're making more impact than most of the engineers your team and having a bit of fun.

I think it's 3 hits on the same person, no misses allowed. It's pretty damn weak compared to the normal wrench, which I think crits 4 out of 3 hits, at least against spies.

They said it fixed not hitting teammates, but when I was randomly hitting my teammates, every third hit was a crit.

It's a Fez. Spy is wearing a Fez now. Fezzes are cool!

Overall cool looking stuff. No Vuvuzela as Buff Banner replacement sucks of course.

Polycount winners announced.

The Gasman (pyro)
Tank Buster (Soldier)
Special Delivery (Scout)
Croc-o-style (Sniper)
Saharan Spy (Spy)

Croc-o-style Special Delivery and Tank Buster would have been my pick for each of those classes too glad they won. None of the pyro ones I thought were exceptional. Spy class selections were all stacked tons of good entries, Saharan Spy is great.

These five lucky individuals will soon receive the unbridled adoration of the TF2 community when we release their packs in an update. Unluckily for them, we're also going to attach gameplay attributes (probably of a game destroying nature) to these items, sullying their perfect work with our clumsy attempts at game design.

:lol

I look forward to the crocodile outfits and sleeper darts...too bad the hat will probably be impossible to get. I'm also interested in the tank buster -- I could always use a bigger gun! :lol

Had the opposite problem a couple of days ago. I was playing on a server CP on defense and EVERYONE on my team was either a soldier or Heavy. Don't remember the name of the map, but it's that one with 4 control points (A, B, C, D) that add bridges to the final point. I had originally planned to play as a pyro, but decided to roll medic. I don't know how you can play defense with no support classes and expect to win.

Sounds like Steel. And good times, good times.

Yeah, that's the one.

Shame I got home too late to play on the GAF server. Everyone left right after I joined. It's obviously Java's fault.

So with the Polycount weapons, here's what I (and a few other people with better ideas than me) think they could do.

Mad Milk

+ 50% damage taken
- 50% damage done

Basically, crit-a-cola in reverse. Helps you get out safely while still laying down some fire.

The Short Stop

+ 200% damage vs. players
- 33% clip size

Nearly as powerful as a Revolver, with a smaller (4-shot) clip. Could even be a primary.

The Holy Mackeral

+ On hit: enemy takes mini-crits
- 50% damage vs. players

The only weapon with a "you're killing me with that?" effect on its victim. Also good for last-ditch moves to help teammates.

The Black Box

+ 150% damage
- 50% clip size
- 125% reload time

This will kill a sentry, guaranteed. But you're in trouble in a regular firefight.

The Battalion's Backup

+ Area health boost on use

Replace the buff banner's minicrits with slow healing. Better in defensive spots.

The Powerjack

+ Knocks enemies back on hit
- 25% slower swing speed
- 33% damage vs players

Sort of a suppressive weapon, can get Spies away from nests or otherwise just clear a little air.

The Degreaser

+ Airblasts set enemies on fire
- 150% Airblast ammo consumption
- 75% Afterburn duration

A deterrance/annoyance weapon that should also teach more Pyros to airblast.

Darwin's Danger Shield

+ 125% swimming speed
+ 75% damage from fire/explosive
- 90% walking speed

Something to allow Snipers more safety as they cover terrain, and to encourage surprise routes.

The Bushwacka

+ Crits any enemy with full health/overheal
- 60% damage vs. players

Something's gotta be the crit weapon. This benefits ambush Snipers rather than ambushed Snipers.

The Sydney Sleeper

+ On hit: player speed reduced 25% for 5 seconds
= Dart projectile (akin to Syringe Gun, but with less drop-off)
- 50% damage vs. players

Still has the whole headshot mechanic, but is meant more as a suppressive weapon.

Eternal Reward

+ Backstabs give 25 health (up to overheal limit)
- -25 base health

Risk for reward. Successful chainstabs make for one buffed Spy regardless of damage taken to get in.

L'Etranger

+ Greatly reduced shot noise
+ 133% clip size
+ Mini-crits if out of enemy's view
- 50% damage vs. players
- No random crits

More of an assassination pistol than a battle pistol. Weaker, but won't give away position so you can get more surprise shots.

alt tab has always been dicey on TF2. They keep trying to fix it, though.

I tend to play in a borderless window for easy alt tab action. It doesn't dignifigantly effect my performance.

Just add "-noborder -sw" without the quotes to you launch properties.

Source games in general tend to hate alt tabbing. Was more or less hoping someone would toss in a quick fix. Which is exactly what you did.

Thanks holmes.

Wow, I play TF2 on a mac using bookcamp and I tried Steam on Mac today... and TF2 runs like crap with the same settings on the OSX side...

It says in the tool tips for beating previous records, when the Pyro's involved "Why don't you give her a shot". That's not really joking around. And it seems like they have pretty much said it with that.

It says both. Sometimes it says "him", sometimes it says "her".

Source runs horribly on OSX. All Source games.

Well that is too bad, my windows partition on my mac is running out of space and I was hopping I could move a few some mac compatible games over to OSX but all of them either run bad (Source games) or have graphical glitches (Civ games)... gunna have to repartition bootcamp. Arg.

The Gunslingers kind of fun, but although dropping them I can hear a lot of pingpingping I just don't get many kills, and opposed engys are almost guaranteed to have dispensers to heal back the wounds I do near the front lines.

Changed my mind, because I used gunslinger + FJ on some KOTH maps and did amazingly well by repeatedly dropping miniturrets near the CP.

Regular CP and PL maps I'll still probably be using the standard turrets though.
