ShirAhava Valve has a remake of Spacewar on Github as their main example of how to use the Steam SDK in game development, so Spacewar definitely hasn't been forgotten by devs :]. Also it used to be and maybe still is the game id used by a lot of cracked multiplayer games on Steam.

So if you see someone playing Spacewar on Steam it's either a dev or a pirate.

This happens every generation a bunch of nostalgic retards reminisc but about how it was good in the old days.

I was lurking on GAF in the PS3 era and people were bitching about the current trends ( linear cinematic shooters) and how the PS2 era was better.

Now people are saying the PS3 era was great! Pragmata was apparently a lost in time ps3 shooter and it's a positive. ( It actually plays like nothing from that era).

Personally especially in the last couple of years this is the first time in a while that I've felt bad about spending too much money on games.

If not for Indies, Nintendo and certain Japanese games like Star Ocean The Divine Force, Star Ocean The Second Story R and other Japanese games I can't think of at the moment, I would totally agree with you. 2020s has been mostly boring on certain fronts. Industry is the same now as 10 years ago. Chasing greed remains priority and the best games come from all the main players as last decade.

I do not think the industry has changed that much in the last 10 years. The big 3 remain, the key players keep making good games, and the industry continues to chase greed.
