The $25 PC

Other than being something to mess around with, I can't really think of a practical use for it.

I already have a laptop for portable computing needs, and a 2gb USB drive works fine for all my portable storage requirements. I also have an iPod touch for media and portable gaming.

Still a neat peice of tech though.

grab a used mytouch 3G for $30 on ebay... 600mhz PC right there with display and battery, throw linux on it
There is a pretty long list of problems with this suggestion, but let's start out with at least this...

Can you link to where on ebay you can get a mytouch 3G for $30?

Damn, either those links are hard to come by or godnorazi is buying them all up.

page should be live but its still getting hammered :(.

UPDATE !!! site is working again, but the shops are getting hammerd now :P.

Yeah, no luck getting anywhere on either.

What I did see before they stopped loading at all was that these were (reasonably) British companies. Hopefully, they ship internationally.

Good to know. Now, if only I could get either page to load. :)

So we appear to have completely broken RS and Farnell's websites. Keep trying; that redirect should be moved *at some point*.

@Raspberry_Pi Searching on the RS site always returns the "register an interest" page. Can you link to the proper page?
@Mchr3k No - it's bleedin' doing it for us too. We think their web elves are working on it. Unbelievable - we're not impressed either.

mmmm not sure if this is it :O

http://nl.farnell.com/jsp/bespoke/b...ge=farnell/en_UK/promotions/raspberryPiex.jsp

pre-order only (its the Dutch version of the website btw)

Haven't been able to get through on either site, and don't know if they even ship to Canada :/

I'm pretty sure that both RS and Farnell ship internationally, so I wouldn't worry too much on that score. What I would worry about is all 10,000 units selling out about 5 minutes after the websites come back up. Wonder if there's a mobile site so I can continue F5ing while on the bus.

Oh man, I completely forgot about this. This thing isn't going to be in limited production or anything like that, right? If so, I'd definitely pick this up (maybe after the demand dies down a tad) whether I really need it or not.

Now that they know this they will make far far far far more.
Its just to bad that the webshop where not as capable as they thought.

We're so frustrated about the DDOS effect - and apparently some of you are VERY ANGRY. We're really sorry; it's out of our hands.

Still think that this could be a game changer. Especially a game changer for Linux.

I bet they see a huge spike in users this year. Way, way, way more even then the 64% increase they saw this year.

Mentioned to a friend last night that the servers would be damned this morning, he insisted they would be fine as there are only a few thousand people who use linux and they have more powerful machines as its less efficient then windows.

I still have a red mark across my forehead through brute-force face palming.
