• Hey Guest. Check out your NeoGAF Wrapped 2025 results here!

The 3DS is the greatest console I have ever owned.

It's my Monster Hunter 4U machine, but it does so much more. It's probably getting the most use out of all my consoles at the moment. Looking forward to a new Fire Emblem to add to my library.

It is truly an awesome system. Amazing library that will remember for the years to come. It's already better than the GBA and DS IMO. It has a little of everything. Especially top notch RPG's and even more now with Xenoblade 3D.

Probably one of my favorite Handhelds ever made. It's a tough choice between this and the DS since the DS had so many RPG's, but Kirby Triple Deluxe, Fire Emblem, Push/Crashmo, SMTIV, A Link Between Worlds, Monster Hunter 4, EOIV, Devil Survivors, Persona Q, Animal Crossing, Dream Team and especially Kid Icarus are all top tier games to me, and none of those are ports or remakes. Just an amazing overall handheld.

I just wish we could get some goddamn Dragon Quest localizations

Seriously, I've gave up hope on DQVII though, it's tough being a Dragon Quest fan in the west :(

My first reaction was "HELL NAW", but after pondering about it... I agree. It is definitely fantastic. Like a DS whose games have come to finally blossom.

I think the 3DS is pretty terrible. If it weren't for all the Atlus games, I'd have bought a DSi or DS Lite instead.

its good

the DS was so much better, tho

I still play my DSi XL, almost as much as my 3DS. So many games still worth playing.

For handhelds, either GameBoy Advance or 3DS. I could go either way depending on my mood, heh. Just own both and control the entire universe... or something.

I consider the 3DS an extension of the DS due to full hardware BC and I have to say, when you combine the DS library, the 3DS library, and the refined hardware of the revised 3DS... it's a hell of a combination.

On one unit, I am still playing games like Kirby Canvas Curse and Meteos from as far back as 2005, a bucket full of RPGs and strategy titles, a high quality remake of Majora's Mask, and a fully functional portable Smash Bros. And a game as sprawling and complex as Monster Hunter 4.

It's just stupid.

I just bought a 3DS XL out of the B/S/T thread and this thread is encouraging. I haven't owned a Nintendo portable since the original Gameboy, so I'm pretty excited to dive into the DS and 3DS library.

I agree with OP.The 3DS has the best collection of quality software out of all of their platforms so far. It is the best way to get your Nintendo fill if you are a fan imo (the Wii U is not that appealing to me).

I don't know they're not that expensive to get....or I just kept my copies...

I know, I just like the idea of having an all-digital library on my handhelds. I love being able to flip the thing open and having hundreds of games staring me in the face, waiting to be played.

Wario Ware DIY didn't sell a great deal (its week 1 opening in Japan was far weaker than the rest of the franchise* and its LTD suffered too). It also had high production costs due to the 32 megabyte NAND save. I guess some people buying three copies couldn't save it.

Wario Ware snapped is more affectionately known as Wario Ware crapped as the DSi cameras just don't work well. Perhaps now on the New 3DS with its better cameras it is playable.

Throw in Game & Wario into the mix (not looked up data but I can't imagine it being any good) and I think Wario as a franchise will be taking a vacation. He never was a million seller in Japan or anything (outside of Wario Ware touched) but more solid than the ~187,000 DIY did.

I have no clue on US or other data.

*-Actually Smooth moves was marginally worse but it had a long tail.

Ahh yeah that's true. I liked Game & Wario but it would've been nice to see a more traditional WW at least one more time.

Though to be honest I'd be totally up for them to take Wario in a completely new direction. Feels like it's a good time to give the character a refresh.

I love the N3DS XL just for the fact that I can play RPGs on the go, which was why I loved the PSP Go.

Finding copies of Disgaea DS, FF4, and Chrono Trigger(along with the Zelda series and Xenoblade) helped cement this handheld as a GOAT contender.

Plus, MH4. Codename STEAM is solid. Being exposed to Fire Emblem. The library is just amazing.

It's true, there's a great library and BC on top of that. Too bad they don't emulate SNES, too, that would be the KO punch.

I like it a surprising amount, considering that I don't really care about touch screens, cameras, microphones, or 3d. Now that I think about it, it's strange I like the hardware at all.

But it's always been about the games for me

I think it's sorely missing a nice line of Dreamcast Classics, to go hand-in-hand with the other Sega 3D classics.

The button-layouts are almost exactly the same, they're relatively close in terms of visual-output and you could totally relegate all the extra VMU stuff to the bottom touch screen. It would be great!

3DS started out great but it's been kind of disappointing for me the last couple of years. There's not a lot of genre diversity as nobody seems interested in or capable of delivering fully 3D action games that run at an acceptable framerate. It does have a ton of awesome 2D and ultra-simplistic 3D games, but it's pretty lacking when it comes to more ambitious titles.

Crazy Taxi 3D? Oh god please!

The only thing that kinda concerns me with it a bit is the barren release schedule in the immediate future. But, I'd rather Nintendo focus on WiiU a bit like they have been since 3DS has a freaking stellar catalog at this point. Especially with the DS BC. Besides, E3 ain't that far.

Considering the backwards compatibility with DS, I would say it's the best handheld out there. If you are going console, I would say SNES and the 60gb PS3(RIP) were the best consoles I ever had in my life. If they could get SNES and n64 on 3ds VC, I think it would be a contender for sure.

It is always in my pocket, waiting to be played in any spare time I have.

Which is why it boggles my mind that they didn't bring the normal sized New 3DS over to North America. That 3DS XL, New or original, doesn't even come close to fitting in my pocket. I may have to bite the bullet and upgrade anyway if they start releasing New 3DS exclusive games besides Wii ports.

I've been having the same feeling as the OP lately. I love the little thing.

I have a bajillion titles from the eshop and VC, and a fucking classic library of cart games. Just in the last month between having money and club nintendo I've picked up

Box Boy
Animal Crossing
Phoenix Wright Trilogy
Bravely Default
Xenoblade
The two free addictive Pokemon games
Code Name Steam
Mario Golf
After Burner 3D

and more. (edit - SMTIV)

The system is fucking boss.

Super Metroid on your 3DS, eh?

I don't know if I agree entirely but then I look at all the games I got on the shelf (DS/3DS) and then turn the thing on and see the ambassador games I got for free and all the other games I've downloaded since owning it. Just a menu, jam packed with awesome games.

OP does have case to make.

Have you tried playing them on an XL or N3DS XL? They look just as good as they did on my Lite (which I also still have).
You then lose the more portable form factor of the DS Lite. The 3DS has functional backwards compatibility, but the original devices were superior. And if 3DS games don't interest you, the older DS units can be more attractive.

The Vita would be the best handheld because it can play PSP and PSX games as well. Heck, it can also stream PS3 and PS4 games.
