The 3DS is the greatest console I have ever owned.

One of my favorite systems of all time for sure. The New 3DS made me love it even more. Face-tracking 3D is too good.

My iPhone is the best console I ever owned. Millions of games and many of them are FREE! It's a m a z i n g.

But seriously where's all the 3DS racing games at. I'd pay a $40 premium for a fully featured 3D Real Racing 3 with no timers or microtransactions. Why is Out Run the best racing game on the 3DS? It's 30 years old. Oh yeah. Out Run is awesome.

I have had mine since launch & i have to agree with the OP, it is a great console, it was however a little rocky in the early days owning one, but it has got better & better, i have never had a issue with the 3D i have it on max all the time, i hope mine will last forever!

It certainly has a great library but the hardware itself is disappointing to say the least. I see the idea of an F-Zero game for 3DS being thrown around and I cringe. F-Zero GX released in 2003 and the idea of the next big game being released over 10 years later and looking worse than GX is a dreadful thought. If a game aspires to and demands something beyond 2D or very simple 3D graphics the game really needs to be on the WiiU. I just bought my first 3DS(N3DSXL) and look forward to playing more of the great games on the system. A new Monster Hunter of course means I won't be playing many other games for awhile though. One of these days I'll buy my 2nd 3DS game!

It's lack of Third Party games compared to the DS or Ps Vita and the huge gap in the Indie scene compared to the Ps Vita hurts the system for me. Nintendo has a hard time keeping two systems afloat at the same time, seems like the 3ds is slowing down while Nintendo is working on the WiiU.
And the hardware is lacking, the N3DS helps with that but it's almost hard to justify its price sometimes.
All in all its a nice system I just wish since the Third Party was lacking Nintendo would try and make more interesting games, games like Luigis Mansion 2. The quality can be questioned but at least it's a interesting take on their IP, they have alot of solid games but most are more of the same. However that's mostly a nitpick that I shouldn't take with Nintendo, the lack of Third party definitely hurts if you want something alittle different or don't have anything while you wait for the huge gap the system has.

All 3DS really needs is a mainline Dragon Quest
in North America
to be better than the DS for me. It has everything else the DS had.

It's got Xenoblade but Wii's VC kicks it up a little bit higher.

NX will have a shot if if supports your Wii/U/3DS libraries

It's a good system, although my n3DS already had a mark on it where I've slightly dug my thumbnail in (that thing isn't responsive when you need it to be). The XL screens are also really nice. I have an OG 3DS and the screen is a tab bit too small for long sessions.

Hopefully Nintendo continues to support it for a loooong time, and when they stop...VC and DS backlog ahoy!

(I'm a handheld junkie in general. Vita is also one of my all-time fav systems)

Wow, I didn't even notice Wario is MIA on this thing. What happened to Wario Ware?

Wario Ware DIY didn't sell a great deal (its week 1 opening in Japan was far weaker than the rest of the franchise* and its LTD suffered too). It also had high production costs due to the 32 megabyte NAND save. I guess some people buying three copies couldn't save it.

Wario Ware snapped is more affectionately known as Wario Ware crapped as the DSi cameras just don't work well. Perhaps now on the New 3DS with its better cameras it is playable.

Throw in Game & Wario into the mix (not looked up data but I can't imagine it being any good) and I think Wario as a franchise will be taking a vacation. He never was a million seller in Japan or anything (outside of Wario Ware touched) but more solid than the ~187,000 DIY did.

I have no clue on US or other data.

*-Actually Smooth moves was marginally worse but it had a long tail.

It's a shame they tried to switch up the formula so much with those games, I loved WarioWare: Touched! and wanted nothing more than a follow up to that, so hopefully if they make another for the Wii U they'll give it the gameplay of WW:T!

It's not quite there yet (I would say it's pretty tied with Wii and PSP, but behind the DS, PSX and SNES), but it is close and it still has probably at least 2 years of high-medium profile releases left.

If it gets several of the following: a new Final Fantasy Tactics, a new Advance Wars, a 2D Metroid, Dragon Quest XI, and the Virtual Console gets beefed up a little more (mainly MGS Ghost Babel), and assuming none disappoint. I would say that it would take the crown by a decent margin.

I've been getting into more and more DS games that I've missed lately too.

I think the 3DS having 3DS and DS games plus all the favorites I had growing up on VC means it's my handheld of the forever.

But 60gb PS3 ran like ass. Play it for more than a couple hours at a time and it became a BBQ. Plus later in the gen, 60gb wasn't really feasible anymore. My game installs alone definitely take up more than 60gb, let alone PS1/PS2 Classics and digital titles.

Love my 500gb Slim though. Loss of BC was a shame, but I think it was the right compromise to make.

Mine didn't? It did however die in 2013, while watching Netflix of all things. The GPU fried or something. That said putting an HDD in one was really simple and solved the space problem. Having all those PS2 games with unlimited save storage was great. I might get another one but realistically I have a good enough PC to emulate at this point.

I would regard it more highly if third-party support was not so weak. It offers little to those who don't care about Nintendo games. Atlus' titles justify the purchase I suppose.

Nah. Software lineup isn't as good as 2DS, hardware isn't as good as Vita. I mean, it's okaaaay. I like it and all, I just don't get gooey over it like I did the GBA or 2DS.

I liked my original DS better. I just can't handle playing on such a crappy screen in 2015.

Same here, though I'm not so sure why the screen bothers me so much since I still play my original DS to this day and it doesn't bother me.

I just can't enjoy the 3DS. Doesn't feel good in my hands, doesn't feel good looking at the screen..

The 3DS is a great console, but in my opinion it should have cross save/cross buy like the PS3/4 and Vita, as well as access to at least every NES, SNES, and handheld available on the VC. It would really add to its value.

It was great for a while, but for me the library has been terribly weak for almost a year and a half. The only thing I've been interested in getting since ALBW released would be Majora's Mask. I've played it before though. The only game I bought since ALBW was Azure Striker Gunvolt, which I was pretty disappointed in and didn't finish. Played Xenoblade on Wii, so that doesn't interest me either. I haven't been interested in Pokemon since Red/Blue. Other games in series I like have been disappointments too (Mario & Luigi, Paper Mario, Yoshi's Island). It really doesn't look like there's anything on the horizon either, except for Fire Emblem next year.

Edit: I guess Smash was actually the last big game after ALBW, but I bought that for Wii U instead and have no interest in the 3DS version.

Hardware has been outdated since... launch? Uncomfortable to hold. Piss poor 3rd party support compared to the DS.

But.. 1st party support IMO is unmatched compared to the DS. So much better.

All in all I find it... ok. I don't play it nearly as much as I had a year or two back. I personally have had more enjoyment with the PSP/Vita, due to hardware and PS1 classics.

I will miss the handheld glory years though, as that age is fading fast.

There are also a multitude of new franchises and returning IP's for this system. Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Tomodachi Life, Shinobi 3DS, Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars, HarmoKnight, Code Name: S.T.E.A.M., Kid Icarus: Uprising, ....

And what I had listed is just an droplet of games that I can think of!

I got rid of my other consoles because I liked this one so much more. My completion rate is incredible. I just wish the software were cheaper.

Yeah, its my favorite system of all time. Between VC games I've never played, indies, RPGs, and of course Nintendo's games its by and far my favorite. I have over 200 games and even if Nintendo starts whining down which seems like its happening, I still have a ton of games to buy. Its truly staggering how impressive it is. System itself (XL) has a perfect form factor for my hands and I love the 3D effect. Combine it all and it can't be beaten for my preferences.

Bar the form factor, the hardware, the UI, the region locking, the online system, the heavy reliance on Nintendo games, and more... Yeah, its decent.

I would regard it more highly if third-party support was not so weak. It offers little to those who don't care about Nintendo games. Atlus' titles justify the purchase I suppose.

how is third party support weak? Capcom, Square Enix, Atlus, Sega, etc are all developing games for it. Unless you are talking about western support.

Yes, I love region-locked hardware and backwards account systems!

If it weren't for Soul Hackers and SMTIV, my 3DS would be a paperweight. I doubt I'd even own it. It's more of Nintendo's squandered potential if you ask me.

It needs a Metroid or Metroidvania for it to top the DS for me. Altus may have filled that void for me though. They have been amazing on the 3DS

The DS was definitely my favourite console ever, but now that title belongs to the 3DS.
and I don't even care for the 3D screen effect.
That being said, there is room for improvement and I look forward to the next portable Nintendo console.

it's the only nintendo system i don't own and has the only zelda game i didn't buy at launch. i feel like it's not unique enough or offers enough cool 3rd party games that i loved on the ds.

It is a good system. I rate the PSP slightly higher, but I do think the 3DS is second best of all handhelds. In 2 years, I may consider the 3DS the best.
