The Andromeda Artists Rez HD XBLA Official Thread

Would it be illegal to post a link to the mp3's of each stage?

Are they ripped from the official soundtrack?

Because then, my guess is probably.

Generally, I'd say that if it is something that is available comercially, giving it for free (unless offered as such by the creator in addition to comercial release) is verboten.

Ah well..nothing I can do about it then..

Every single thing in the PS2 version is here, incl. the PS2 version itself. It just lacks the Trance Vibrator support, and the credits sequence is a little different.

I downloaded the trial like I always do first and gave it a good going over, two runs in HD and one original since I missed out on the DC version.

Amazing game, simple yet so deep when you keep combo's going and learning enemy placements, plus the music beat is awesome for the first stage you get in the demo.

I will pick this game up but not untill the weekend, last thing I need is another good game to stop me doing university work :lol

I didn't have time to try the demo, and I bought a points card just for this game anyway (with my employee discount, the game technically cost me $9.01, rounded up, instead of $10.00,) so I just went ahead and purchased it anyway, before running out the door this morning.

I almost got up early enough to get this downloaded before work, almost. It was 20 degrees in my apartment and I was wrapped up like a warm burrito. I couldn't physically bring myself to get up for anything, not even the bathroom. So I went back to bed until the absolute last minute I had to go to work.

So, I have to wait until lunch.

Oh I always do that, it's so bad, but I generally end up feeling like I need every last possible second of sleep and end up rushing out the door like an idiot cause I'm so late.

Also the lack of breakfast can't be good.

My apologies, but my head was too big to fit :P

I feel like I've accidentally woken up in an alternative dimension today. I just don't get what's so special about Rez. The gameplay is just a straightforward onrails shooter. The music sounds like generic techno and doesn't appeal to me at all. The artstyle looks too simplistic to me and has no charm. Even if I were to adore the artstyle and music I just can't get over the dull gameplay.

I can appreciate games like ICO which manages to be fun *and* have a very artistic and beautiful presentation. But to me, Rez is just a shooter with fancy presentation which forgot to add fun gameplay.

It reminds me quite a lot of E4 actually. That game has a very original concept (even more original than Rez when you look at it from a gameplay perspective), music is a very important aspect to the gameplay and visuals, and the artstyle is definitely unique. And it has dreadfully boring gameplay. So why didn't E4 get 10/10?

Sectus... it's not often I call people's opinions wrong, because lets face it, they're opinions and people are entitled to them. BUT YOUR OPINIONS ARE WRONG, AND YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED. :lol

You do know that E4 and Rez were made by the same studio, right?

Rez, quite literally, and quite directly, paved the way for Lumines, and Meteos, and E3/E4, etc. It is an important landmark in the history of beat games, and even video games itself.

It is one of the few niche titles out there that was in high enough demand to recieve a repressing after its initial release without being greatest hits, or updated in any way, and possibly the one with the longest time in between initial release and repressing.

It is also one of the games that escaped the sinking ship of the Dreamcast, so for Dreamcast owners, it holds a special place as a touchstone to their past.

It was one of the first games, if not THE first game, to have the in game music be interactive, in that the level responded to the music, and the music itself changed with the way you played, both speeding up as you moved deeper into the game, and even making specific sounds based on which buttons you were pressing (both of these features are reflected in later Q games, such as Lumines, Meteos, and E3/E4.)

Honestly, it's possible that the game just isn't for you, and that's fine, but if you would like to know why the game is as widely respected as it, it is because it holds such a significance within the history of video games.

But, if you ever find yourself with an extra 800 points, and you can't figure out what to get, consider Rez. If nothing else, you will be supporting the same people who brought you E4, which you seem to like (I agree that it is good too, BTW.)

Downloaded this game about an hour ago, and since I hadn't played Rez at all before this (blasphemy I know), I didn't know what to expect. But once I got into it, I was blown away by the awesomeness of this game. I'll definitely be spending a lot time with this game today.

Currently at area 2, but the boss keeps kicking my butt. :(

I didn't ever play Rez until the repressing a couple years back, which I TOTALLY bought on an impulse, but I never had any regrets.

It is definitely a game to be held up as an example of games as art. It is all at once incredibly simple, and incredibly complex, and the graphics are timeless.

Has anyone tried playing with custom soundtracks (just for the heck of it?) Does it changethe gameplay at all?

Well, actually, I didn't like E4. At first I found it impressive and I bought it because it came from the same studio which made Lumines (which is a game I love), but I regret that purchase as the gameplay just isn't there. They messed up the game balance by allowing the player to easily play literally forever. With that in mind, I won't risk buying Rez (I'm gonna make an educated guess and assume the rest of the game is very similar to the demo anyway).

Perhaps I'm at a disadvantage because I'm not a fan of abstract art and I'm not a fan of techno music. And I get the impression that's the major reason why this game is getting so much praise. Turn off the sound and give the 3D models some textures, and the game would probably be regarded as a generic shooter instead of being praised as one of the best games ever.

Lumines is, in many ways, the offspring of Rez and Tetris. If you enjoyed Lumines, and you like shooters at all, you may yet want to give Rez a try at some point.

It is also an early aproximation of a shmup in 3D.

Just to let you know, though, I have almost zero interest in techno music, personally, and I have never willingly attended a dance club (give me a bar with a bit of Johnny Cash or Tom Waits playing over thesound system anyday,) but I love the shit out of Rez.

edit: and, honestly, once I get into a groove, I can play any version of Lumines litterally forever. If you did like E4 at first, but found it too easy, I recomend giving E3 a try. There are a few less game modes, but you are given a limited number of lives, and a shorter shield times, meaning that there is a lot more strategy involved, and you have to really time your chains right, and then go for the power-ups ONLY in the open areas, rather than taking thirty seconds to run around the screen grabbing power-ups everywhere, and then exploading at a random spot.

I will say this: a fan of Lumines not appreciating Rez is kind of like a fan of Guitar Hero not appreciating Amplitude.

I'm a big Lumines fan, bought 90& of the DLC out there, but I didn't like E4.

Sorry :(

( I love Rez though! )

Pants explodification killed my dog. I want to sue someone, but I'm too hyper and happy from playing Rez. Rezbox purchase 100% validated.

...that ending music "glitch" is a bit offputting, though. Hopefully they patch that. Furthermore, I'm wondering about the option defaults. No 5.1? No vibration? Hrm.

forgot how awesome this game really is. got past the first boss in one go, never done that before (i kinda suck :P)

weird that vibrationn is off by default too, and it didn't kick in until after i restarted the game.

Yeah, first thing you do: Put the vibration "on"
That's the only thing to change in the options, unless you got Dolby surround and you must change Stereo.

Ummm, I love Lumines so I downloaded the demo of Rez.

I don't get it. Sure, the music is cool and you can actually create a beat or something when you tap the shoot button but what is it about this game that makes it such a cult classic?

Same here, the first time i played. You got to pay attention at those orange circle-shaped enemies. They usually are on the top of the boss. That's the only difficult thing about the boss imo.

I did try the version of E4 which is on PC. E2 I think it's called. And I thought the gameplay of that version worked pretty well. Don't have a PSP so I can't try E3. I would have enjoyed E4 a lot more if they hadn't messed up the game balance. E2's gameplay with the selection of modes in E4 along with the new graphics and music would have been nice.

In the case of Lumines, I just don't see the relevance between that and Rez. In style they might be similar, but in gameplay (which it always goes down to in my opinion) they're vastly different. I'm a fan of puzzle games and I got instantly interested in Lumines once I saw it (I kinda think of it like Tetris only done right). I'm not at all a fan of onrails shooter (the only one I really liked was Typing of the Dead, and as you can guess from the title it's not exactly an ordinary rails shooter), so the rather simple gameplay in Rez doesn't appeal to me.

You'll probably think of it as blasphemy but I usually play Lumines with custom music in the background. The only song I like ingame is Heavenly Star, although I feel like going crazy after hearing it loop over and over while playing it. If you read in the newspaper about a guy going on a killing rampage while singing along to a catchy j-pop song you'll know it's me.

So like 90% of the fans of GH? I really just quoted this because you mentioned the best game ever made and I'm contractually obligated to say...

Make another Amplitude, Harmonix!!!

Woke up and dl'd Rez. Got about fifteen minutes of play time before I had to go to work. Looked fantastic, sounded even better, but it's been so long I stunk the place up.

Can't wait to get home and play some more tonight.

God I forgot how much I love this game, and seeing it in HD is a sight to behold. Don't really care about 5.1 as I use headphones on that but it is a damn amazing port as it is. Shame none of my usual Xbox Live buddies want to touch it with a 10ft pole but that is their loss.

My scores are pretty crap but I was 13th behind Wario on Stage 2, but that will no doubt drop rapidly.

First time playing this game.

This game fucking rocks

Pure sex in HD.

So awesome. I'm loving this game. Died a couple of times at boss 3 though. The red flying things got hard to hit. Now I'm at area 4 and it's getting harder.

I have a question about score attack: how do you get near the set high scores? Like in the first area the score is 150k, but even when I shoot most of the enemies I only get to 80k points. So I'm nowhere near and I don't get why this happens.
What I don't get too: whenever the 'end of area' box appears, do you have to get in asap? because if I let it pass, sometimes more enemies appear.

To get more points in Score Attack you need to allow the enemies shoot at you. Certain enemies will shoot missles at you if you let them and doing this allows you to get more points. And for some of the bosses there are parts of them that you can continue to shoot without damaging the boss thus getting more points.

For example you can get some extra points by shooting the spinning square ring of the boss in Stage 1. I did this and I ended up with a score of 175k.

oooh thanks. yeah you easily forget this game isn't timed. but still, even with rockets shot down and an extended boss battle, I still have almost double the amount of points to get. I'll try this method later.

Shooting missiles is not going to make him shoot up to 150k+ from 80k. Chaining, however, will.

You need to hold down the A button and chain up as many enemies as you can (max 8 hits) and let go before they leave the screen. If you just want to break 150k, you don't have to work that hard. You can miss a bunch of enemies and you don't have to kill everything in huge chains or anything.

No, that's just sneaky level-design. Sometimes there's a few lingering enemies that you're supposed to miss if you're stressing too much, thus preventing you from getting 100% shot down.

wooooowwww

Played the demo, oh thats cool, turned on vibrate and trance with the second controller

wwwooowwww

god damn it I need 200 more points

Pretty much. I just realized I forgot my lunch because I was in such a hurry this morning from sleeping in. Now I have to waste precious lunch minutes not only downloading it--but waiting in line at Braum's for a chicken sandwich.

What a day, what a day...
