The Boys - Final Season Teaser Trailer

So let me get this straight... they finally kill off one of the Boys in a Wrath of Khan-like way, even go as far as to show his skin bubbling from the radiation... but then there's a blood trail that makes it seem like he bled out... and then these BTS screens are released and it turns out that they filmed Homelander personally killing Frenchie, but didn't use it:

They have no idea what they're doing in this show. So glad I stopped watching after S2 and just get to enjoy this trainwreck from afar.

Feels a little off, but not terrible to hate

I guess they derail too much on the Homelander thing. I hope the VFX is all this they are talking about

and also, the showrunner wanted everyone to hate Homelander, and they just keep developing on him... they forgot how character writing works?!
Well, yes. Do we even have good evil characters at this point? Hollywood has become so afraid of the fact that evil characters turn out to be cool and popular, that they cannot help themselves but do write them as bland as pathetic as possible. "How dare you like him??".

Well that's the thing - it is not just that they have no idea, but they also don't care. It is like D&D situation with GoT - at this stage both writers and actors don't care anymore. They know that the show has fallen off and just want to finally end it.

I'm excited for the final episode just so I don't have to watch this shit anymore.

Truly incredible how much of a nose dive in quality this show took after 2 seasons. It just keeps digging further but what else is there to watch?

Felt like season 1&2 were a 9/10, 3 a 7.5/10, 4 was a 6/10, and season 5 so far is as 5/10 as you can get.

Is it because of writers strikes or what? I'm baffled. Butcher and homelander acting carry the show, but they constantly haven't known what to do with their characters and arcs.

Is the source material this fall off a cliff bad as it went on?
The source material is just as political, but more childish, and more nonsensical than what the show is currently doing. The ending was deeply stupid.

This is such a weird thing to be upset about. Do you think that death by radiation poisoning is under represented in modern media or something?

He didn't say any of that in the interview at all, lol.

That tweet is just straight up fabricating this.
One day in the far future, once Elon is no longer in charge of this site, I hope that there is some sort of system put in place to demonetize false information.

That's all. No cancellations or bans or anything too extreme. Just no money given for verifiably false information.

That scene was confusing all round. They showed Frenchie getting radiation poisoning, and his face beginning to melt but when we saw him near death his face was back to normal and he was bleeding out.

Lol what?? That's your takeaway from my post?

Exactly.

The lack of continuity, and lack of care for continuity, is something I can't stand about many TV shows. They think the audience is too dumb to notice, even during a pivotal moment that the series has been leading up to for 5 seasons.

I'm sure most people would agree with that sentiment for actual grifters.

But you're talking about a parody account called Wong Updates. Get it? He always posts obviously fake superhero-related news, but I guess it wasn't obvious enough in this case. Should be obvious enough once you visit his profile, though. Here's a tweet from a few days ago:

Snyderbros are often fooled by his fake James Gunn quotes, it's pretty funny.

The radiation is exposed in the background too.
They really messed this scene up.

it's funny this type of show pretty much lends itself to the "enemy" winning type ending. but they'd never do it cause they're creative losers, for as much as they larp as being subversive and pushing the envelope they'd never actually do what would qualify as being that.

SPOILER

lol there's no way that Homelander would kill pregnant women on the TV show

The series has been light for all seasons thus far. They will get as edgy as the comics only for the finale?

Disbelief No GIF

I'm still hoping The Deep survives.
Chase deserves it, he's been incredible in the role.

The burns are there, you guys are really doing the 'bitch eating crackers' meme in real life here.

So was the comment about Posh Spice's inability to smile a dig at Erin and the work she's had done since it showed her after. Or was that just a coincidence?

I don't know, I was pretty skeptical about the leak too. But then the trailer dropped, and you can see Deep and Starlight fighting, and Father seems scared or something like that in the trailer. It all matches the leak pretty well.

The pregnant woman would fit the finale, since there basically aren't any limits anymore. Now that Homelander has completely lost it.

I feel very strongly people are looking for reasons for this to be bad and no longer art. This is the show that had man crawl around another man's penis 2 seasons ago. Calm down.

Nothing to say about the blood trail continuity due to them cutting his actual cause of death from the show, of course.
In all honesty I didn't spot them and thought where are the buns when watching so that's on me or my vision.
It's barely visible, which is why there was a lot of confusion about his actual cause of death.

In fairness, the second guy you quoted didn't even watch the show so there's no way he could have known this.

Between spreading the non-existent Kripke quotes and non-existent lack of continuity, the manufactured outrage for this reasonably fine season has been very interesting to behold.

It was a parody account you clown. Don't get mad because you were fooled by it :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Look at how it was posted and reacted to here before people started pointing it out. Not everyone follows all these shit posters on twitter to know their origin stories.

🤷‍♂️

"Non-existent lack of continuity" lmao you are so consistently full of shit, it's actually kinda impressive.

Nice burn, almost as good as the one that skipped continuity on Frenchie's face.

It was obviously fake. Sometimes you have to use your brain to figure these things out.

And surprise, still nothing to say about the blood trail continuity.

I think they've thrown a few jabs at her. Casting the sweet hottie new Starlight was probably another one. Good on Erin if she can take the jokes but damn, any scene she is in with a woman with a normal face is really hard.

Nah, I stay well away from social media- it's a complete cesspit. This one was all on my lack of observational skills.

I read that "this site" as neogaf at first :messenger_grinning_sweat:

If elon was truly in charge here it would be great we could mock his bitch ass everyday. You know he could not resist showing us how better than everyone he is at talking about video games and creating threads :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Again, not your fault. I rewatched the scene and they filmed it from the opposite side of the burns so they're not visible for 99% of the scene duration. It's a 2 and a half minute scene and you see the burns for maybe five seconds in total, not even exaggerrating.

The screengrab he took is as clear as it gets, and it's from a 2-second cut.

Having said that, I'll admit that I took someone else's word as gospel without seeing the scene for myself at first. But now that I have, it's easy to see where the confusion comes from.

The fault lies with the people who are making the show. The people in charge that decided that they A. cut Frenchie's actual cause of the death from the show, B. film from the OPPOSITE side of the burns on his face, and C. don't address the blood trail and hope the viewers are too dumb to question it. It's a fucking mess and the people that are defending this are the drooling demographic the showrunners are hoping for.

The scene has even greater problems.

spoilers (though at this point, does anyone care?)
A. Homelander hears the very slight tapping Frenchie does in the heavily shielded chamber.
B. Homelander does NOT hear the struggle Kimiko and Sage are having, and how the hell is SAGE restraining KIMIKO anyway?
C. Homelander leaves after killing Frenchie, instead of hanging out for the literal TWO SECONDS to see Kimiko spring from her hiding spot. Homelander didn't think to fake leaving just to see who else pops up?
D. Butcher and Hughie show up IMMEDIATELY, how did they even get there so fast?

Some of this is just typical TV show "they travel at the speed of the plot" stuff but it's just sloppy IMHO. Remember the FEAR everyone had that Homelander could find them anywhere and they had to hide in specific places? Yeah, the writers certainly didn't remember.

And this doesn't even get into the old lady using her shield to save kimiko from bombshell but then does nothing to save HIM from getting whooped on by Soldier Boy. "I want everyone to stop fighting! Unless it's necessary to drive this tedious plot, then punch away!"

No ones saying it was ever a cinematic masterpiece, season 1 was and continues to be actually good compared to what came after, sorry some of us expect something of more substance from our entertainment than subversive shock value with a side of terrible writing.

The bolded is actually something that's been discussed a lot over the past few days on Twitter because of this scene from Season 1, where Frenchie meets Homelander for the first time:

Check the quote retweets for a whole lot of people feeling wistful over what The Boys used to be, what they hoped it would be, and even how it looked with the different color grading.

On that note, I think I'm going to rewatch the first season. :messenger_grinning_smiling:

Back when the characters were written like real people instead of parodies of their season 1 selves.

I don't disagree that there has been a dip since season 1, but I disagree with the severity of the dip. I think this season is certainly an improvement over the previous one, for example.

i don't see how this season's finale could be worse than the season 3 finale either, where Butcher could have killed Homelander easily, but we had to have some contrived nonsense about soldier boy being mean to Ryan.
