The Capcom Unity 1942: Joint Strike (XBLA/PSN) Official Thread

i wasnt complaining that it was shorter or longer than the older games.. its just harder for me to justify spending $10 on a game that can be beaten in 30-60min.
You replay these types of games for higher scores and one credit runs, must not be your type fo game.

I tend to agree, but SSDHD strongly disagrees. Then again, it's like an exception that proves the rule.

Although I'm very partial to Disposable Hero as well - an old Amiga shmup.
Housemarque, creators of Super Stardust HD, are pretty accomplished in the shooter category. Their PC shooter The Reap is still one of the greatest ever created for the platform.

So I decided to pick this up. Played a few rounds of co-op and single player last night. It's better than I expected from the reviews, but not much. Online has issues, we ran into glitches where the entire screen was black except your plane and the bullets/powerups, and also one time the entire game was in black and white. Weird.....

The co-op bombs were fun though, and the graphics aren't quite as bland as they seem in the screenshots. I enjoyed it, but I hesitate to recommend it at 800 pts/$10 unless you are a fan of the genre or originals.

Tried it last night. Pleasantly surprised to see the proximity score multiplier 1-16x, I like shooters that emphasize that (partly explaining why I liked Silpheed PS2 more than most).

This system also favors regular fire rather than autofire. Constant autofire in this game would be sloppy and net minimal scores as enemies get taken out while out of any multiplier range. But then autofire is always merely an option, not mandated.

May pick it up after I sample again later.

As someone with an arcade stick (PS3), I'm rather bummed that I can't customize the buttons.

yeah seriously. i guess everyone else is playing on a pad, so they're not complaining.

pretty crap decision not to include button mapping.

-1 sale here.

just ran through wing king, and i actually...like it quite a bit now? just having to play more carefully makes the game feel much better. i was playing a bit of 19xx as well, and they've actually done a good job of taking that game's design cues. the difficulty is still pitched much too low for experienced shooter players, and it has a lingering chintzy xbla feel that i don't altogether like, but it's certainly one of the best downloadable games i've played

~1.6 mil, btw -- should put me at 5th or 6th on the ps3 leaderboards. maybe i should have gone with the 360 version

Hah, that is just insanely stupid.
I have a Virtua Stick for my PS3 as well and sort of want to try this out due to all of its hype here.

I still think that it looks really really shitty from seeing videos of it though :(

Crazy, People in the top ten on 360 are like 4 mil+. I was at 2.2 mil and 27 probly like 50+ now.

Finally got a chance to get this, as a huge 19xx series fan, I'm very happy as to me it's a great reimagining of the series for widescreen and modern hardware. I like the graphics quite a bit and the music is great, it's a much more faithful and better reimagining than Commando 3. I can see myself playing it for quite some time, well worth the 10 dollars.

Yup, a pretty rad little game. I need to play it co-op :o

Finally had a chance to sit down with this game. It is good, but not great.

Definitely hard to recommend this to anyone who isn't already a fan of this series (or is reeeeeeally a big shoot em up fan).

Online co-op (360) did not mess up for me at all, had a really good lag free match with a random person.

I tried the demo last night and immediately was hit with nostalgia. I remember playing this game when I was 14-years old in the arcade. I will definitely consider picking this up once I have finished Bionic Commando.

Which raises a different point: publishers and/or Sony need to release demos for games before the full game is released or at least the day it comes out. Capcom probably would have gotten my money when 1942 was released, but BC was my priority yesterday.
