I know Gordon could have an affair. Anyone could, but it would not make sense from the universe Nolan created. The comic is a different matter.

Gordon is the guy that brings about order even if he uses some unscrupulous means to do it. The whole ending of Dark Knight is knocked down a peg by the idea that he would cheat on his wife in a short period of time at least.

They would have to remedy this by spending some unnecessary time building up why Gordon is unfaithful or why they may be having marital problems. Maybe if his wife cheated first or couldn't forgive him for pretending to die then it could work. However, no matter what it's a time waster- especially if Bruce is going to have a love interest too.

I'm not saying the alleged affair story will be bad but it certainly sounds bad right now. None of the hypotheticals brought up are remotely intersting enough to devote a chunk of the trilogy to.

Totally agree with this

I was personally hoping for no romantic subplots in the third film. Not every single fucking movie ever needs a romance plot. This film just needs maximum Batman ass kicking

Oh come on, it's not like Gordon is banging the next female villain and sending in tapes to the news like the Joker in TDK.

And it could easily (and understandably) be explained by a strained marriage as a result of his faked death. The wife never got over it...she feels like he puts his job first...the relationship strains...Gordan meets a new hot cop as passionate about fighting crime as he is...hello Motel 6!

Jesus people. Affairs happen. It doesn't make Gordan a villian.
And i'm pretty sure he had a affair or at least was close to having one in batman year one IIRC.

How else would this thread get to 1250+ posts on a title?:lol
It might be slightly lower if the title was better. Then we'd just have posts of "yeah that's good" instead of the spoof posts. :D

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ With Charlize Theron & Vera Farmiga?

the_dark_knight_rises_farmiga_theron.jpg

Charlize Theron has been approached to play a Detective Named Sarah Essen–a love interest for Jim Gordon.

Kacie Thomas and Vera Farmiga have reportedly auditioned for the Julie Madison role.

------------------

Would love to see Farmiga in TDKR!

Well the most interesting thing about the casting rumors... as mentioned in /Film article of the same news, they say there is an audition for Julie Madison who in the comic...

Was engaged to Bruce and was stalked by Basil Karlo aka the original Clayface.
I always dreamed of a Batman movie with Clayface... but after Spiderman 3, another morphing guy made of sand/mud/clay just seems overdone. Unless (if Clayface IS the villian) they tone down his abilities a bit. I'm unfamiliar with the original Clayface.

Nolan should have waited till 2016 to make this so he could make his third film after Cameron broke the curse for everybody.
Can it count as breaking the curse when the first movie was so unspectacular?

BB> TDK
Theron would be great. She'd make a good catwoman. She's done AEON Flux, crappy film, but goddam, she is flexible.

Ugh.. please not
Clayface
.

Why not? Have you seen the Batman TAS episode with him and his "daughter", one of the best episodes ever. I think they could go with something like that. If it happens I just want everyone to know I called it far in advance and if it doesnt please pretend like this post never existed.

wat? Gordon is married and has a kid. He's a stand up guy, fux this shit

in the comics (batman: year one)he eventually divorces his wife when he is caught having an affair with a fellow detective named Sarah essen(years later killed by the joker)
so maybe they'll bring that character in.

But this isn't the comics.

I'm also of the BB>TDK camp, but I've only seen BB twice, and once was on cable. I've seen TDK at least 8 times, so maybe if I watched BB that many times it would start to lose some luster.

I really disliked Batman Begins when it came out, and didn't appreciate it until The Dark Knight came out.

Now I see BB as a nice movie, but not a particularly notable movie from all the superhero movies out there to choose from, and not as notable as The Dark Knight.

It has a couple of great moments, but the new Batman didn't became the awesome it is now until TDK, where we saw everything from the universe in full steam.

Your story, like all the others, is a reason this is a bad idea. I would be fine if his wife left him and he's moving on. To me that even makes sense and doesnt detract from the story. But this isn't a separation, it's an affair and affairs are sloppy writing unless that's what the movie is about.

Dark Knight Rises better not be Unfaithful with Batman in it!

I don't think Nolan would do that. It just doesnt fit his character. Its not like him and the wife had an argument during TDK.
Definitely this.

There's no way that cheating is in his character and this alone would make me lose a bit of respect for the movie if it were to happen. I trust Nolan wouldn't be that silly though.

Title isn't a big issue.

I was just gonna say that was one of my favorite TAS episodes.

There's no way Nolan's Gordon will be cheating on his wife. I don't care how shaky Nolan portrays relationships. Gordon is the moral compass of the franchise, he's not about to bang an intern.

To all you guys with this "No way Nolan would do this/that. Its not his vision"......WTF? You seriously think you have him figured out THAT much?

Also...

"After the Harvey incident, she left me and took the kids to Metropolis."

This is true. Nolan could be capable of making truly horrible mistakes.

Also the quoted line is not cheating and makes sense and could be explained in 10 seconds or less. If there is an affair, there's going to be time spent on itso...ugh.

The only problem is Nolan doesn't want to go unrealistic with Batman and the idea of Clayface being able to create children or Clayface in general is very out there. I would love it if Nolan broke his rule and tried.

So, I guess the script is pretty much in the can:

'Dark Knight's' Nolan Writing Love Story Set During Great Chicago Fire
via www.thewrap.com on 11/9/10
J Blakeson's kidnapping thriller "The Disappearance of Alice Creed" is one of the best movies I've seen this year, so it comes as no surprise to learn that the talented filmmaker is in negotiations to direct "Hell and Gone" for Warner Bros., according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Jonah Nolan ("The Dark Knight") wrote the script, which is described as a "Titanic"-like historical tragedy and love story set amidst the Great Chicago Fire of 1871.

Considered one of the biggest disasters in American history, the fire killed more than 300 people and destroyed a sizable portion of the city.

Ron Howard's "Backdraft" remains the gold standard for fire-themed movies, but "Hell and Gone" presents the first opportunity in a long time to knock that action classic from its perch.

"Hell and Gone" will be the first film Nolan has written that his brother, Christopher Nolan, hasn't been involved with. He recently finished writing the screenplay for "The Dark Knight Rises."

Courtenay Valenti will oversee the project for WB.

Blakeson recently wrote the sequel to Neil Marshall's "The Descent."

Nolan is represented by WME, while Blakeson is repped by CAA and David Higham Associates in the U.K
good for Jonah

http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/chris-nolan-lines-up-actresses-for-batfilm/

EXCLUSIVE: Chris Nolan is lining up actresses he'll meet for two female lead roles in The Dark Knight Rises, the third installment of the Batfranchise which Warner Bros has dated release on July 20, 2012. I'm told one of the roles is a love interest for Christian Bale's Bruce Wayne, and the other is a villain. The actresses are: Rachel Weisz, Naomi Watts, Blake Lively, Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway and Keira Knightley. Nolan is keeping the roles under wraps, just the way that he did when he drafted his Inception star Tom Hardy to come aboard to likely play a villain. Deadline broke that story October 13. I'm still not sure what the role is and I believe Hardy took the job without knowing or reading a script that's still being tweaked
