I like BB Rachel a lot, she's strong and assertive yet cutesy.

Rachel in TDK is a complete sappy bitch who rolls over given the smallest amount of pressure. Completely reliant on men too.

I like how you can tell the order they shot the Joker scenes by how long Heath's hair is. You couldn't get a haircut during the shoot!?

The timing of this airing and the new sequel news couldn't have been more perfect. I hope there is a sweet viral campaign which leads up to advance screenings and scaring the shit out of people in Manhattan again.

It's funny that the script had Knox dying, but Burton liked the character so much that he changed it while shooting so he could live for future movies.....then he does Batman Returns and it's like Knox never existed.

I watched Batman, Batman and Robin, and Dark Knight all on TV in the last few days. Batman still has qualities. Fuck you Nicholson haters. Fuck you all to hell.,

I commented on that scene where he is hit by Vicki's car. Total dying scene face...but he still lives!? Also, Eckhart was the fat guy dying in X-Wing in Star Wars and the "Top Men" guy in Raiders of the Lost Ark. Yeah. Deal with it.

I really loved Aaron Eckhart's portrayal of Harvey/Two Face. It felt real but not contrived for the sake of reality. Joker completely played Harvey for a fool without Harvey even realizing it.

I think Batman and Batman Returns still are solid movies, but I think the Nolan films have diminished their stock greatly.

Poor Harvey Dent/Billy Dee Williams

I have no problems with Nicholsons acting. Most of my problems stem from the feeling that Burton has never touched a Batman comic before in his life and made a movie based on what he felt batman was from looking at comic book covers back when they sold them in supermarkets.

Returns isn't as solid. If I could take the complete score from Returns and remove Prince from Batman...it would be the best by far.

Returns is my favorite Batman flick pre-Nolan. I liked Danny DeVito's Penguin and Michelle Pfieffer's Catwoman. Purrrrrrrr.

Yeah yeah, penguins with rockets.

Is that a common criticism with the film? Because what the fuck. That shit was amazing. Penguins with Rockets would be my first choice for henchmen if I was super-rich.

anyways for me:

TDK > Batman 89 > Returns > Begins. Wonder where this film will fit in here.

The only batman movie pre nolan that I can stand to watch anymore is the 60's flick. It's still hilarious today.

Returns is still one of my favorite movies.
And I've always loved it more than Batman.

Mask> TDK> Begins> Returns> Batman> Forever

It's too bad plans fell through on the planned Michael Jackson+Prince album for Batman

According to Prince, MJ would have been Batman while Prince was Joker.

Returns is a terrible Batman movie but a truly awesome Tim Burton movie.

I use to like it until I realized the whole movie was stupid. Batman 89 is the better film.

I think why it always worked for me, the characterizations for most everyone is just out of whack.

But on its own, a pretty solid, disturbing, visual appealing movie.

And Michelle in the catsuit. :)

~Edit~
Since up to this scene, one thing that Nolan fan really outclasses original in is the Batmobile.. in TDK, he is chasing the people because you know he has this awesome state of the art vehicle... where here he is using it to escape from the Joker

i agree dude. it's extremely strong. i love all the dialogue.

Probably won't stay up for it, but Batman Forever is on right after Batman tonight.

An odd combo, wonder just how glaring it is without Returns as a buffer

Speaking about games, why in hell wasn't there one for the Dark Knight ?

Apparently the developers spent a great load of time perfecting the gliding mechanics and had even cast actors to reprise their roles - then the Brisbane-based studio goes belly-up and cancels the project..

A shame really, would have loved to tear through Gotham in the Bat tank / bike.

For the life of me, I've never got how Batman misses him with his shots in the Batplane with a scope.

And joker takes him out with one shot, eyeballing it.

Probably because a little thing called Batman: Arkham Asylum happened.

So thinking about TDK after watching it last night for the nth time, I think its a fantastic piece of entertainment. But If there's one thing I'd improve about TDK is create a stronger 'beginning' and try to make things less complicated. And make a more flashy entry for Batman.

As it stands, TDK plays like one giant ending sequence. The movie is manic, relentless and tries to accomplish incredible amount of things at any given time. Every scene is as complicated as possible. Few examples:

  • Joker's bank heist. Its a garden variety heist but with a twist. The twist is that you kill your partner and joker kills the last one.

  • Parking lot drug deal with Scarecrow and Falcone's thugs. Garden variety drug dealing, but with copycat batmans with guns and the real Goddamn Batman somewhere.

  • 3 very important events all done in under 15-20 minutes: deaths of Judge sentencing Sal Maroni and friends, Commissioner Loeb's death and Joker's party crashing at Harvey Dent's fundraiser.

  • Commissioner Loeb's funeral procession. Bruce Wayne finds the real cops tied up. On top of that, the room is rigged at the window so the sniper shoots it when Bruce comes near.

  • Ferry Sequence: We all know the story. Both the ships rigged with explosives with the detonator in the other ship. Quite a complicated sequence that involves a democratic vote.

  • Ending tower rooftop sequence. Very complicated sequence involving many character classes: Cops, Hostages disguised as clowns, Thugs disguised as hostages. IIRC, the audience was slightly confused as to what was really going on.

For majority of the time, it succeeds. Where it falters is in establishing a pace between some sequences. Don't get me wrong, Joker's Bank heist is amazing. But the sequence right after that (drug deal with Scarecrow and Falcone's thugs) seems abrupt. I don't want to sound harsh because I love the movie, but there's no other way I can explain. It works much, much better if you watch it right after Batman Begins. My only advice to Maestro Nolan is to try to avoid doing so many things in every sequence.

It was weird how the Scarecrow was like something thrown in at the last minute. I really didn't see a point for him to have a couple of minutes scene and that was the end of him.
