It was weird how the Scarecrow was like something thrown in at the last minute. I really didn't see a point for him to have a couple of minutes scene and that was that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cameo_appearance

A cameo role or cameo appearance (often shortened to just cameo) is a brief appearance of a known person in a work of the performing arts, such as plays, films, video games[1] and television. These roles are generally small, many of them non-speaking ones, and are commonly either appearances in a work in which they hold some special significance (such as actors from an original movie appearing in its remake), or renowned people making uncredited appearances.

Probably because a little thing called Batman: Arkham Asylum happened.

Not exactly. It was canceled, and a shame, because it would've sold a minimum of 3 million copies because of the film. So, when you tally up the amount of revenue lost...

Yea. Safe bet that there will be a game this time around.

On-topic, I was watching TDK last night and forced myself to stop, it deserves to be watched from the beginning.

It's shown just after we're introduced to the idea of The Joker in the heist scene. It draws a contrast between the weakness of Gotham's current underworld and the danger The Joker's wildcard behaviour throws into the mix by comparison. When we're later actually introduced to The Joker's character, or at least his motivations in the grenade-in-jacket scene, we already know that he is not only extremely clever but also a cut above anything Bruce has faced before.

Fuck I knew he was a cameo. It's football Sunday, so I'm drunk.

listen to this. Cameo was NOT the reason.

i mean, a cameo in the style of 'fuck it, just throw him in there for the fans, it'll be sweet, someone get cillian on the phone' doesn't quite seem like Nolan's style

Scarecrow is in The Dark Knight to show how effective Batman has been in taking on the mob, and how desperate the mob is to make money.

"If you don't like what I have to offer, you can buy from someone else. That is, if Batman left anyone else to buy from."

Absolutely, although I will say I can understand people being confused of the importance of that scene. I walked away confused many times.

have there been any good photomanips of Hathaway as Catwoman or Hardy as Bane yet?
Only one I've seen:

You guys are outta your minds if you think Catwoman is gonna wear spandex with boobie cleavage and Bane is gonna dress up like Lucha Libre in Nolanverse.

hardy needs to get bigger for Bane
With how big he got for Bronson, I'm not worried.

Sorry, I PERSONALLY made the photoshop myself and didn't find it on the internet and post it here just for speculation purposes. I've wronged you.

Good. I want Nolan to look at what they're doing to the next Batman game and go as far as they can in the opposite direction.

If they go by the TDK marketing schedule, we'll get the first photo(s) of Catwoman and Bane during Comic Con in July. Probably will steal a lot of the spotlight while not even being there for a panel.

this might have been discussed already, but does anyone think they will use camera tricks to make Hardy as tall or taller than Bale?

According to the internet, Hardy is 5'9'' / 5/10'' while Bale is either 6'0'' or 6'2''

Hardy's build in Bronson doesn't work with Bane IMO. Bane to me has a build like a body builders while being athletic and functional. I also thought Bane would be around six foot five which is a problem since Hardy is around five foot nine.

Or they're actually using it. In the press release, Nolan went out of his way to say that Hardy is playing "our new interpretation of Bane"

Hmm...one of Bane's main traits is that he is physically equal/superior to Batman. I guess they could show this even if Bane is portrayed as being shorter.

Or maybe they'll remove that aspect of Bane's character?

It's going to be awesome since Marvel will release a bunch of footage of their movies, but WB will create more buzz for The Dark Knight Rises by releasing one photo.

Honestly, I don't think the venom is any less believable than the microwave emitter from BB. Bane is one of the true "freak" villains that could actually work in a quasi-realistic Batman universe. They should just go all out with him.

The Hospital scene and the 'rescue' of the hostages are my favorite parts of the movie.

Just how the plot twists right before the final battle and makes the good guys the bad, having Batman fight the guys he was just with a minute ago is crazy awesome.

You know what the worst part of Batman Forever/Batman and Robin was?

Gossip Freakin' Gerty.

What was Schumaker thinking? Did he honestly believe people wanted to see this character? And she got so much screen time. I found recently that that was Bob Kane's wife. Way to honor your husband's memory.

I think it would be really interesting if Bane broke Batmans back in the opening act of the film, leading to him rehabilitating himself in Asia. Focusing on an incapacitated and crippled but mentally strong hero could be a fascinating and cerebral take on the superhero genre.

Yeah, it would be like a mix of Batman and Regarding Henry! But who will play the tough physical therapist with the heart of gold?

And it would allow the Catwoman to play an actual part that isn't just a female opposite to Batman.

Or high heels (for Catwoman). Lord I'm so excited about the idea of a "real world" Catwoman!

The sonar sequence and the whole ferry "LETS PUT IT TO A VOTE" thing sours the ending of DK for me.

I'll do what you shoulda did 10 minute ago

So thinking about TDK after watching it last night for the nth time, I think its a fantastic piece of entertainment. But If there's one thing I'd improve about TDK is create a stronger 'beginning' and try to make things less complicated. And make a more flashy entry for Batman.
Cut out two face and shave an hour of the running time. Nobody'd notice.

You mean the rise and fall of Harvey Dent, and the film's core about Bruce Wayne walking this tightrope of expectations that's impossible.

I can't really relate to this sentiment at all. I loved that there were numerous complications, because that meshes with the Joker's style, he's two steps ahead of everyone and always has an endgame in mind. I liked not knowing everything in his cards until the very end. I had no problems with the beginning either, it really created the impression of a city still plagued by problems but slowly finding its way back. Aside from a few scenes, it was understated and calm, and I think that was a good approach. We already can see the threat looming on the horizon, no need to make it flashy and loud on top of that.
