The Darkness: The Official Thread

This game has surprisingly good graphics.

I hope there will be some unique encounters with bosses (I hope there are bosses, big ass monsters and shit)-

indeed! and the surprising thing is that it's running on the riddick engine! Of course they have enhanced the engine to support HD features

can't wait for the riddick remake!! That will look sick with the motion blur

And i'm loving the action set pieces (Car Chase). Really cool shit.

bosses are confirmed to be there

I went and rebought Riddick today to replay it on my friends XBox1. This game is still awesome, can't get enough of it, feels like you're playing a movie.

Wow. Looks incredible. Cut scenes, just as they are in Riddick, are lightyears ahead of every other game in terms of cinematic feel.

GT removed the drill torturing movie, and I don't know why >:[.

Can't wait for The Darkness, it resembles Riddick in how it builds on the atmosphere.

The movies kinda sucked. Like low budget space Lord of the Rings or whatever.

But, yeah, the game was all kinds of awesome. And Darkness looks like it's improved on just about everything.

I'm really looking forward to it but I dunno if I want to get it day one. Riddick was a stellar game but was only what, 8 hours long? I get the feeling this is gonna be the same...I could beat it in a rental or borrow and be done with it. Anyone know if it's very long or has good replay or if the multiplayer is really good and not tacked on?

No we should actually thank AgentOtaku. He put together a sweet ass thread with tons of more info. Check it out on the front page.

Nah I didn't save them. It sucks, they took all 3 of them down. Not sure why.

i dunno, maybe that "do not capture footage" you could read at the bottom right of the screen has something to do about it..

That's actually a great question. Riddick was amazing, but also very short (last time I finished it in around 6 hours), what about lenght of The Darkness?

the devs have stated it is longer, as they were very much aware of the negative criticism Riddick received regarding its length....

speculation is about 10, maybe 15 hours.....

Yeah, I also remember in some interviews mentioning that that it has a pretty lengthy singleplayer-by shooter standards. Usually 10-15 hrs is the sweet spot for these types of games.

That's good enough. Altough if it has atmosphere as deep as Riddick or even deeper, then I would love it if the game was 40 or 50 hours. Just my wet dreams :D.

I went from no idea about the game and zero interest to this being my most anticipated game for June. The week it comes out is hell week at my work. I'm going to melt into my recliner and play this that whole weekend.

I've been hyped for this game for quite a while, but each video looks so much better than the last.

The subway video is freaking incredible.

The faces on the characters with the shadows looks nearly photoreal.

I've been pumped for this game since I first heard, "from the makers of CoR." I really really hope my 360 gets back to me in time.

The WWI scenes make my heart go pitter patter.

Anyone know what platform was lead on this, looking forward to this but dont know which platform to get it on.

There is no lead, that was said earlier in the thread. Both the 360 and PS3 versions were developed at exactly the same time, so it's a choice you must make young sir, following the standard rules of system one-upmanship.

Hmmm so the game is excatly the same content mp etc, wow tough one this achievements might swing it i guess then.

Looks a lot better than it did 6 months ago, that's for sure. But the animation still has a sort of janky, PC-game-circa-2001 feel to it.

Forgot to say that the PS3 has some exclusive video content watchable on the in-game TVs, but the 360 version has enough anyway with Popeye and Nosferatu (fully confirmed to be in the 360 version thanks to the 1up Show actually showing both whilst playing it).

I bet they pulled the torture scene because it has a typo in it.

"TELL THEM THEIR WASTING THEIR TIME." :lol

I think you need to go back and check out some of those PC games. :P The animation is MUCH better than that...

I agree. I think the animations are fantastic. Everything about that cut was ace. And yeah, the lip syncing could use some touching up, but let's not forget that that's in engine, and it's not so bad that it's jarring me out of it at all. Voice work is top notch and I love the little effects like the echo in the church, the muffled sounds when the drill is working, the gargling, Jackie talking through his teeth, the accents. Very impressive stuff.

Jet I have a question regarding the Darkness PAL for the PS3: is it in any way censored or is all the good stuff left intact?

Dunno. I believe it is the same. Except for Germany probably.

GSAU: The game is obviously quite violent. Were any modifications required to meet the Australian restricted MA15+ rating and pass classification?

JM: Australia has been supercool. As far as I know the Australian version is completely intact. Much unlike the German version, which is severely modified.
