The Darkness: The Official Thread

Kind of glad I didn't drop the dough on this game while in the store earlier as I was real tempted after hearing Overlord isn't in until tomorrow. But alas, I would like to support it, but I just haven't been convinced yet and with so many games I want out at the same time there is only so much cash to go around. Next-gen hurts the wallet. Still, I hope the title does well overall.

is overlord really better? It got worse reviews.

Alright, disc is packed. I'm heading back to Circuit City and hoping they'll allow me to trade.

They should, just tell them you chose the wrong game. Also, tell an elaborate story about how you thought it was funny when you put the disc in the system it wouldn't play. And you were like "wtf man, this 360 is broken." When the clerk is like "lollerz!" You're in there like swimwear.

I loved the demo. It is one of those things right now, before fall rolls around anyway, I'm looking for something outside the realm of shooters and Overlord atm fits my bill. I haven't seen all the reviews from Overlord yet. The only major review I've read is 1up's and it was an 8, good review btw. I'm still waiting for IGN and Gamespot as well as TXB, but an 8 or round about is good enough for me especially after playing the demo.

No motion-blur & AA in the PS3 version? The lack of motion-blur sounds more important for me...At least someone confirmed that there are differences between the 2 versions. Too bad that it turned out that way for dark though. :/

Can't wait till friday.

But it plays popeye... POPEYE!

No motionblur? What the hell? I don't even know how that makes any sense, I thought an effect like motion blur would be done on the CPU and it's not particularly expensive.

no, but i am definitely not trusting your opinions since you rented the game. It was obvious you would crap on it.

what? that makes no sense what so ever. So your opinion is only valid if you buy the game? Which of my points do you think are not valid?

This game has some of the most immersive first person sequences I've ever seen. I only just got to Jenny's apartment (and am now watching the movie) but I'm very impressed.
While the kiss on the couch was sort of goofy I also found the whole scene to be pretty effective and and accurate portrait of a young awkward couple.
I'll admit the controls are a bit clunky but as soon as I realized that this wasn't a game where you'll win in a straight shootout(playing on hard in the cemetary) I started loving it. As long as you do as the Faith No More guy says and stay in the shadows, it's really fun. Try and go all guns a blazing, though, and the clunky movement and enemy accuracy make it a very frustrating experience.

Oh, and eating people is FREAKING AWESOME.:D

I'm the same way...cash is a big deal to me so I rented this game and decided to go with Overlord because of the humor. I like that type of humor and it is such a rarity so I want to throw the devs some support...also it has that Pikmin/Sacrifice style gameplay.

Yeah...I tried hard, but the controls are too clunky for me to be satisfied with that. I love difficult games but not when the input causes added stress. Game is friggin badace though.. Im loving it.

I appreciate that the actor playing Jackie seems to be doing a young Vito Coleone(Deniro) tribute. What the hell was with that review that said Jackie's voice-over work was bad? It's really good. By videogame standards it's through the damned roof!

I wonder what version will sell the most.

I'm guessing the one with 4x as many consoles sold.

I'm definitely waiting for the demo now. Don't have a 360 yet but if the PS3 issues don't actually make the game play badly, I'll probably still pick it up. I can live without motion blur, but I'm not gonna buy it if it has a janky framerate.

555-game apparently gets you the collector's edition extras.

If you just get past the cemetary it's not so bad though. It's really irritating at first because the difficulty requires you to stealth kill but doesn't give you any means to do it. Now I'm rolling right along.

you think it will sell 4x time more on the 360?

The controls in the PS3 version are great with sensitivity at 50%. Not sure what people are complaining about control-wise with the game. Framerate is fine too. No motion blur is kinda lame, but I didn't really miss it in the 20 min I've played so far.

One thing the reviewer whined in ign video review bothers me: He said that the whole "playing in darkness" is a trap. He said that you keep focusing on the same thing - enter room shoot out the lights, shoot bad guys, enter another shoot out the lights, till the of the game. Seems like valid point but he could have talked bs.

So, do you really must focus to shoot every damn lightbulb you see?

You can if you want to, I just mix it up. Sometimes I go in guns blazing without the darkness, sometimes I send it a creeping dark or a darkling while I take out enemies from far away. There's a lot of variety if you look for it.

So far I like it, it isn't quite up there with Riddick yet but I'm definitely enjoying it so far.

controls feel excellent on PS3 version.................but where the hell is my motion blur.....seriously, I'm getting freaked out here...not to mention for the 5 minutes I've spent with it thus far, the AA is seemingly nowhere near the 360 version...........

....I....I don't know what to feel right now.......

I'm in
the underworld
for the first time and i'm stuck.

I have to go to The Hills to find the man on the cross. I'm in the room that leads TO The Hills, but there is this giant bell in the hallway in front of me. I've tried sending the Darkness around it, but it always runs out of energy before it really gets anywhere.

What am I supposed to do? Help me internet, you're my only hope ;'(

Eating people? Eating people? WTF?

I think the wrong TTWO game got the AO rating. :lol

A major part of the game is having your demon tentacle rip the heart out of dead bodies... :lol
One of the achievements is to eat 300 hearts.

I guarantee that's more violent than anything in Manhunt!

Probably 300-400k like a typical 360 title in a month. PS3 will probably be more than 100k.

I guess it depends on how hard up PS3 gamers are for something new. R6: Vegas is supposed to come out this week and Sigma is next week so I really don't know how it will do.

OT: I hate how sales gets brought up in everything. If I had my way, sales age would have its own forum so we could just say "Take that shit to the SA forum, it's OT." I don't mind discussing it but it has absolutely nothing to do with the games I'm gonna choose to play. :/

This looks like a fun game. I want to play. :) Watching movies on the TV sounds like a really cool idea in a game, but I'm not exactly sure why.

It was a difficult sell, but they finally swapped my PS3 copy for the 360 version. Starting now.

I fear for my 360, though, as the opening movies (logos) were choppy. :\

I'm still really p*ssed about the multiplatform differences...

Really disappointing to hear about the lack of motion blur in the PS3 version. Boo, Starbreeze, boo.

I'm actually on my way to swap it out right now....called Gamestop and they said they'd do it after a bullshit story I made up...

Ha ha, another victim!

One thing I have already noticed on 360 (I'm eating here) is the lack of extra content. :P There were TONS of extras in the PS3 version but none on 360 (at least not that I see).

Im so Happy I want with the 360 version. I almost bought the PS3 but the guy at ebgames told me He tried both and the 360 version looked better.

Like? For example? Please I would like to know what I'll be missing. If anything I'll just borrow my brother's PS3 version when he's done with it.

Just got it today and I plan to play a chapter each day....

just wanna say, the ENDING for the first chapter... WHOAH!... truly some great stuff, they paced out that last level perfectly and the ending cutscene is really disturbing on some levels and also brilliant, and it really makes me wanna play more(but I gotta do something while recovering from Wisdom Tooth)

Details Please!......

So are the Accomplishments on the PS3 the same as the 360s achievments? I can list the accomplisments if someone would check that out on their 360. I am just a little curious.

There's all the comics, docs, etc. on the PS3 version.

Also just got back from EB. They had sold out their entire launch allotment in half an hour of opening! Yay!
