Use the Black Hole you just got, it will open the door.

Edit: please don't call it bugs when you can't figure out how to continue.

Don't know about you, but I've noticed many levels where I could make it through using different means.

yea some parts give you 1 more sneakier option but you cant really play any way you want. IT just isnt that open ended.

Mesijis I think you should sit back for awhile and let people figure out the game on their own, or at least stop being so insulting.

Oh and I didn't get a chance to pick this game up today because I didn't get any sleep last night(don't ask). On top of that Tenchu Z and Senkou No Ronde arrived today so yeah...I seem to have hit an impasse.

Seriously. Mesijs, I'm sure your intentions are good (or not), but you're really starting to ride the border between passionate fan and obnoxious bugger. Don't be the latter.

Anyway, I might pick this up later today. Still kind of torn between versions though.

isn't he entitled to his opinion as much as you are?

Sure, but down right ragging on people for disagreeing with him or for, according to him, being flat out stupid isn't necessarily the best way to go about promoting this one. But by all means, if he wants to be an obnoxious bugger than he can be an obnoxious bugger.

And you should probably not even comment on this.

Man, the launch of this game has really produced a bittersweet reaction around here.

I think it's pretty clear that, although the game IS good, it certainly failed to meet expectations. Whether fair or not, people were expecting something better than Riddick in every way.

On a side note, I enjoyed the little commentary on "Swedes" in the bar early on. :P

Haha yeah I noticed that. Very funny.

I can't play this game during the day, it just doesn't feel the same. I tried to play it earlier but it's hard to get into a game like this when it's 80 degrees, the sun's shining through my window and I can hear birds chirping.

am I the only one :\

Kinda like Condemned then

werent you leaving this thread? remember you were gonna stop defending a game that you have not played yet?

sure, but why are you still here if you rented it, beated it, and didn't like it?

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tad disappointed with this game. It's still great, and everyone should at least play it. My biggest gripe is the aiming/controls. Something about console shooters...Unless they do the "LT to aim/RT to shoot" like gears and CoD2, it feels off. Halo is the only console shooter that still feels good without it.

Ok sorry guys, maybe I was a bit a too passionate fan. ;)

You know, I'm honest, I just can't stand people not liking this game, it's that easy. :lol I just can't figure how the hell people cannot like this game, I'm serious.

About the 'way you want to play'. I don't mean it's GTA where you can take a plane or take a boat... I mean the way you approach each combat situation. You can sneak out with the Crepping Dark and tear them apart, you can pick them off at a distance, you can execute them, you can create an army of Darklings and keep sending them in. That's what I mean.

And really, to me, it feels really that I can chose the way I want to approach combat situations. Sometimes I creat 4 Darklings and watch how they wreak havoc. Sometimes I feel like coming as close as possible and perform execution moves. Sometimes I clear an entire building with Creeping Dark. That's what I mean.

Well, they are amusing but I think they also help to promote the more tragic aspects of The Darkness. It's a great idea to have moments of humour juxtaposed with sadness because it helps the more emotional moments to stand out. You know, originally we created 50 different Darklings that the player could control. Some of them had absolutely no powers at all, so you were always really annoyed when you got one that would just run around. They're great for comic relief though and it's a bit like having a humorous gun or something to lighten up the mood.

:D

If your local Circuit City is sold out, don't forget that Target is giving a $10 gift card with each copy of Darkness sold this week.

BTW, it looks like The Darkness is the 'game of the month' for the xbox 360 . . . following Forza 2 as last month's game of the month.

The Darkness is a really fun and excting game, but I do feel a little dissapointed after completing it.

The combat feels wholey-underdeveloped. I once picked up a car and used it as movable coverm and another time used like two different Darklings as my squad members to clear a really tricky room. Too AWESOME and unforgettable moments of videogame extacy, but thats twice in the entire game. The rest of the time Im spamming the black hole or just using normal guns.

The open world scenario is cool and all the little moments remind me of something like Deus Ex, and all the break dancers and TV's in a sleeping bum's shopping trolley and fantastic texturing make up for the times you get lost and waiting for trains. I also heard a guy say something along the lines of:

"Man, I keep getting the feeling someones just gonna come up behind me and blow my brains out, I'm on edge all the time". You can imagine what happened, but replace the guns with demon arms :D

The lack of HUD is cool and immersive, but sometimes I'll find me jamming on L Bumper hoping to get some more darkness. Never the less, actually feeling like being in the shadows and looking at what my demon heads are doing (different coloured heads or sucking in darkness) is way more next-gen than Splinter Cell DA's light-on-yer-back.

Control is a little floaty and there is copious amounts of aim assist. You'll get used to controls and aim assist can be turned down, but you'll probably never get used to Jackie's slow ass speed. I am always clicking the stick to make sure I'm not crocuhing, its that slow.

Fun game, really good experience. I really dig short-ass, fun filled games like Prey and the Darkness; quick to beat, but so much intense fun packed into that 10 or so hours.

(This is the most crusty ass keyboard ever, please excuse my typing)

This is exactly what always happens when anything comes out though, the hating and nitpicking it to death begins (the same thing happens with movies I love all the time too.) Now that the excitement/anticipation of the wait for the game is over, people automatically jump to being dissatisfied - it's really strange. I think people should just calm down and give the game a chance for a little while, etc. Try it out, experiment with different ways of using the powers and see everything it's got to offer.

I just got my copy. :) YAY.

Dude, this is NeoGAF. There are ALWAYS going to be a lot of people that dislike any given game.

I for one am really glad you enjoyed it so much. :D

i didnt beated it. But i am commenting on it as i go along. which is more than you.

Honestly you were basically viral marketting in this thread.

I'm a couple of hours in, but I'm taking it really slow and just looking at everything and enjoying the story (even though it's much different than the graphic novel so far). The presentation is simply awesome, you get that creepy vibe from the moment you get to the opening menu. The graffiti is pretty awesome, I even saw "Monolith" spraypainted in the subway, which is funny cause their game also had amazing textures. "What the cock!?" is one of my personal faves :lol I see what people are complaining about, but I really feel like Gametrailers nailed it when they said "the whole is not the sum of it's parts." I'm really enjoying the game despite some of the control flaws. To be completely honest, I didn't like Riddick so much, and I'm enjoying the storyline for the darkness much more.

Voice acting is some of the best I've heard, although the lip sync isn't quite there. The AI isn't as bad as some people claim, it's not awesome but it does what it's supposed to. A couple of times I've seen guys running into walls when I'm using creeping dark, but in general gameplay it's not a gamekiller. One thing that's only been touched on lightly is the surround. The 5.1 sound is awesome, and you can even mess with the LFE settings in the audio menu which is a nice touch. When the darkness speaks to you it will rock the walls. I'm still impressed with the game and I know i'll enjoy it alot, it's not perfect by any means, but it's "the whole" that I'm enjoying.

:lol

He tells you to take a hike for playing and beating the game, but I'm not even sure if he's played the game.

Oh BTW all the endgame stuff was awesome
when the Darkness goes bat s*** crazy and rips up the mansion, I said WOW.

Possible Darkness 2? That ending was cliffhanger total

Actually, facial expressions are pretty bad throughout. The close-ups would look incredible with Half-Life 2 quality facial animation, but things look pretty janky here.

The rest of the animation during conversation is very good, however.

lol right...I dont get anything for talking good of this game...sorry that is not viral marketing. I just wanted it to turn out good.

this game is getting frustrating, it's hard to know where to go half the time sigh..

can anyone tell me what I am suppose to do or go, ..

after you kill the cops for the first time, you get to that dock but there is no place to go??

HALP! I'M STUCK!

Just got out of hell for the first time and I have the letter that says I need to kill myself on holy ground to get back. I'm assuming he means Trinity Cemetary. I'm there and I found Jenny's tomb stone, but how am I supposed to kill myself? Does it involve that high voltage stuff just outside the walls?

I don't remember too well, but i'm pretty sure you're not supposed to go to that dock. I think you were supposed to go into one of the subways, but i'm really not sure. Is your inventory giving you any hints?

Guys I need help with a sub mission.
Im on my final hit for Mortarello...last guy on Vinny's list. They say hes at Gun Hill up High I've sent my slither darkling or w/e its called up and around the rooftops and inside the buildings... I cant find this guy.

There's a bunch of crap you have to do before that.

I played a couple more hours last night and was really amazed at the atmosphere in the game. It's simply outstanding. During the
hell level, there are certain moments when there's a flash of light, and there's this evil son of a bitch that shows up for one split second. That bastard scared the hell out of me last night.

The impressions of this game are quite interesting to read, but I'm going to guess it will mostly depend on the expectations. If you're expecting a great shooter, prepare to be disappointed. I frankly play the game as if I was playing an adventure game. Roaming around looking for goodies, talking to people, and creeping out on baddies to devour their hearts, or for variety, stab them with the tentacles. :p

So ... the PS3 version is gimped? :(

From watching some of the 360 videos ... the fact that motion-blurring wasn't used all the time ... but only when in snake mode, seemed to really add to the the atmosphere. It made it other-worldly. If it were used all the time on the 360 version, and not at all on the PS3 rev ... that actually wouldn't bother me as much. The fact that it is an actual atmospheric effect only used in certain situations on 360 ... makes the PS3 version's absence poopie.

It's weird that the reviews don't seem to mention it. I'll probably rent this though.

CELL should have no problem doing motion blurring. However, its not something that can be simply tacked on ... the engine would need to be designed to do this.

In the case of the 360, using Xenos to do motion blurring CAN be tacked on. This seems to be a case where the devs ported the 360 engine over ... and then were like OH SHITS ... we can't just flip a switch.

I'm kind of mad though ... because the devs seemed to have claimed it would be there :(

I haven't completed the game yet. I'm still in Hell...

Anyway. It seems as if most of the Darkness powers are more tacked on than anything else. I mean I love the game, don't get me wrong. But, most of the time, I can just clear a room out with my weapons.

There are certain puzzles that I have to use the powers for, but that's it. I still use them quite a bit. But I find myself spawning darklings just to hear their chatter.

You're going to have to explain this...how exactly would the CPU (Cell) assist with motion blurring? MB (as I understand it) is a GPU/memory function...
