The Darkness: The Official Thread

Hi, anyone with an SDTV here? I'd love to know what the street signs and maps are like in SD. They are a pretty important part of the game and if they are undreadable, thats gonna be a bitch.

I'm playing on a 27' SDTV, I haven't had a problem with any of the text yet. Street signs are easy to read, the maps in the subway are as well. The only thing that I can think of that might be slightly difficult is the map on the pause screen, but I haven't needed to rely on it, so no loss there.

Is there any way I can control the tentacles so that I can use the things I grab with them as projectiles? I mean, besides the physics involved when letting go of the item.

Sorry...at least I'm not the only one that had this problem. You have to turn on your Darkness powers and go to the top of the hill. If you don't have your darkness powers on at the time, you'll wander around FOREVER. Trust me, it took me three hours to figure that out.

Okay, so I must be stupid.

I found the hill with the crucified, he gave me the guns. Do I just go back to the city, which seems to be the only place I can go?

Ended up getting the 360 version based on the overwhelming posts scrutinizing the differences in the 2 versions. I felt that better picture quality and framerate was more important to me than some extra movies. I'm really looking forward to booting this baby up tonight :D

A little help, please GAF:

I'm in the Swedish version of Hell, in The Hills.
There's a room with some sort of iron bell blocking the exit. I tried chipping away at some pillars and using my 'creeping tentacle' skill, but no luck.

Did I just take my stupid pills tonight? I feel like it's Zelda--the answer's right in front of me, but I can't see it. Thanks.

You have to hold down the RB to latch onto things with the demon arm. Tapping it will just make it whip.

I was actually just stuck on this a minute ago too. All you have to do is
hit the bell with your tentacle and drag it out of the way.
Yup, it's THAT easy.

I'm feelin this as like a good but not great game nah mean. Like still very enjoyable but not a Riddick. The lip-synching is pretty bad too.

Agreed. Just finished the game tonight and I think it's a 7/10. Definitely worth a rent... but my $60 could've been better spent elsewhere.

I'm a huge Riddick/Starbreeze fanboy and even I think this is more of a rental than a purchase. Great game and I was hooked from start to finish, but there's just something missing. Can't quite put my finger on it.

I just started playing this (great, great textures)

and can anyone give me a good template for the advanced control settings? I'm a HUGE anti-fan of realistic bobbing movement in games, and I'd like any settings to make the aiming while moving smoother.

Thanks!

I noticed a lot of things are glowing like dumpsters, tables, etc. Could I pick them up and toss them at people or something?

Hm, I just picked this up today. Now I am still thinking whether I should open it or switch it to some other game. Keep in mind that I found Resistance's single player mode rather bland and not engaging at all, and I am not much of a first-person shooter fan. :s

Congrats to you.

Holy crap. That made a huge difference. Thanks.

Now you have learned the ultimate awesomness in this game. Try impaling an enemy with the tentacle and throwing them into the air. The highest I ever got them was probably 50 feet or so, but it really looks awesome (did I mention the awesomeness?).

Need help:

1) Where's that damn chicks bracelt?

2) Why won't that Hazlegrove granny talk to me?

3) Where can I find Pajamas?

1) She drops it on the tracks pretty randomly I believe. Should be relatively close to her though.
2) Hazelgrove's hubby is in the Otherworld. On your second visit back to the Otherworld, he gives you a side quest to deliver her a bracelet.
3) Pajamas is in Grinders Lane; Make a left once you're in that area, past the gate and it's the door to the apartments in the corner. Pajamas is being held in one of the rooms near the end of the building.

Got the game today at Circuit City. $50 for brand new games, the way it should be!! I didn't have time to even open it though. I can't wait to play it this weekend.

Anyone know what the "FREE LOOK" slider bar does in the advanced control config? And whose bright idea was it to leave out descriptors for the various options, both in the manual and in-game?

The intro was pretty rad, though.

Just finished this game tonight and I have to say that I really enjoyed it. It's flawed to be sure, but for some reason I really found myself having a terrific time every session I played. The voice acting was great even though the lip sync was pretty off and I really got attached to the characters.

I loved the
open ending, and the fact that they didn't find some lame ass way to bring Jenny back. That made her and Jacky's reunion at the end that much more bitter sweet. I even went back to see if you could somehow walk away from Paulie, and all he does is crawl to the bench his gun slid under and try to shoot you, so you have to splatter him everywhere. =(

I really hope they do a sequel. There's so much more potential.

ok i must be ****ing retarded but this is pissing me off.

i am stuck on the section where u get off the sub at fulton street to go see jenny for the first time. except everywhere i go the doors are locked and there just doesnt seem like any damn place to go...wtf

Find the basketball court and go up that street theres an alley way to your right you will hear her shout to you just go to that building.

I need help with the last hitman style side mission.
It says the guy I'm supposed to kill is at gun hill, but when I get there I don't see a single person. Where the heck is this guy?

Also, I tried the multiplayer for the first time tonight. My first reaction was holy crap, did anyone test this crap. I hope it gets patched soon, or else I'll never be able to get the mp achievements :lol .

There are maps and street signs all over, plus the menu screen tells you exactly where to go. That area isn't even that big, so you should've stumbled onto it blindly within 15 minutes max, anyway. Come on, Donahoe! It's not that hard ;)

I've been avoiding the multiplayer for that very reason, but when you try it out again, give me an invite because I only have a few friends playing through it. Can you get the achievements in non-ranked games? I don't want to play with random douches.

Yeah, it looks like you can still get achievements in custom player matches.

So I just found out this game is doing pretty well. Unfortunately I won't be helping the Playstation 3's cause this round because the 360 will be the only console allowing me to blare "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" while I rip off faces and eat hearts throughout the entire game.

You need to be in Canal Station, not Fulton Station. From there, you go to Chinatown and then you can either wander aimlessly or find a sign with a map to find her street.

Look up at TheFallen's post.

Received my copy from GameFly yesterday and so far I enjoy it, although there are some somewhat questionable design decisions. Jesse definitely moves like he's a dump truck and not a person. I understand this isn't Unreal Tournament, but it'd be nice if he moved a little faster. Shooting out the lights gets a bit tedious as well, especially with the weird, sluggish control. Despite that, the game is really engaging and has really excellent atmosphere. Also, why didn't anyone mention Claire from Six Feet Under plays one of the voices?

The first thing I did after learning the move was to enter that large open area in The Hills, and try to throw the enemies into each other from long distance. It was a lot of fun.

I'm really enjoying the game so far; I don't know how far I am from the end, but I've
just tried to kill the police captain and failed
. It looks amazing, and once you learn to balance between using guns and your powers the gameplay really opens up. I like the level design and the degree of freedom to move around [for FPS standards, at any rate], too, although I'm not a fan of using impossible odds, or flashes of lightning, to keep you on the right path instead of old-fashioned barricades.

My only complaint is that the shooting mechanic doesn't feel polished at all, which would be a killer for a normal FPS but is bareable here.

Doesn't address the final hit. I went through there, but didn't see anybody to take out. He's noted as being up high, so I checked the rooftops and found nothing. I gotta think he's in an open window, ready to be eated by my hungry, hungry tentacles.

I spent an hour looking for that guy last night. AN HOUR! I checked every building (well, obviously all but the one where he's in apparently) and couldn't find him. Extremely annoying.

He's a dead man. A DEAD MAN!

I've been taking my time playing through the game and finally spent some time in the otherworld last night. I'm not sure I understand all of the complaints, really. I found nothing confusing about it. In fact, I was expecting the entire area to be exclusively trenches and open fields...but there is much more to it than that. I like it.
