The Evil Within PC Performance Thread

Not getting anywhere close to 60 while moving around in the opening area before you go inside the hospital, but haven't messed with toning down settings yet though, put everything to max at first, and might get better indoors in more enclosed areas. FPS was shooting way above 60 in the cutscenes, though. I will say the effect of rain hitting the character is pretty awful, the rain running down their faces in cutscenes looks great though

AMD FX 8120 at default clock of 3.1 GHz
EVGA GTX 770 2GB
8GB 1600 MHz RAM

Screen of options and initial screenshot of opening area, will take more as I play more

Got double letterboxing going on for my 21:9 3440x1440 monitor which leaves me with a small game in the center surrounded by black. Going to wait to see if someone comes up with a fix to make the game render properly at 21:9. You think that would be supported since that is the aspect ratio the game is meant to be played at....

2gb 770 maxed settings at 1080p at 60 fps. Fluctuates around 45-60 outdoors and constant 60 indoors. Occasional stutter but barely noticeable. Only first chapter though.

Oh and guys the loading is fucking fast like 5 seconds tops. Contrast the console 15 sec loading times goddamn.

Nice one.

I dont understand what happened here. Maybe the village chapters the game gets crazy vram hungry but it seems to lock at 1499. Hopefully we dont run into a performance killing chapter.

Well a couple of post process AA options is nice, anything besides SMAA? No textures options at all? Not page sizes or compress options either then? I wonder if you can scale these via cfg files if not.

-1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these).

Oh shit. This is huge news for me. Incredibly excited about that.

FXAA/MLAA/SMAA

MLAA is a rarity on PC, saying that kind of redundant with having SMAA but hey options are a good thing. Plus downsampling and even FXAA go well together.

the g_fov command is accepted, but doesn't change anything.

It needs a value so like g_fov 80 will give an 80 degree field of view but I take it you tried something like that. I think the only way to scale the game to some degree would be using a border less window utility but set the window larger than your resoltion.

Delete Steam's appcache folder.

Deleted both the appcache folders I had and still the same error. Verifying says 100% but launching the game still says encrypted.

My game also still says PRE-LOAD on it rather than PLAY.

Why don't they just patch in 60 fps? Is it possible to do that or more complicated?

I'm sure they weren't going to do anything until we made a stink about it.

Yep, that's what I was doing. I'll try windowed.

How about textures?

I have a 670 as well, so I'm curious.

They look fine to me. The film grain filter is turned up the wazoo though and I haven't checked without because it's almost 3am here and I should get to bed :p

edit: FWIW, I'm getting no texture pop-in at all, which surprises me because RAGE was quite notorious for it and even Wolfenstein gave me a bit of trouble in this regard.

Game runs 60FPS with the console command MOST of the time but has odd dips between 49-56 indoor and out.

4690K
4GB 770
8GB RAM

I guess it's because of the way it was designed. Hopefully 60FPS will work a bit better in the coming days/weeks.

What res?

and thanks for the reports!

I didn't notice the film grain in the section where you first walk into the mental hospital but as soon as it changed to the Silent Hill type stuff it's so overdone it's ridiculous. Dat light though.

idTech game.. They don't like SLI.

Edit: Grief, what's your videocard that you're running it at 4k?

so glad I got 2 970s then >_>

I didnt get them for this obviously

One question if I may... are the custom settings for frame rate cap, etc., saved once you exit the debug console, or do you need to create an "autoexec.cfg" file of sorts, so those will load automatically every time you start the game? Thanks!

EDIT: I would try it myself, but it's still locked for me.
