The Evil Within PC Performance Thread

I can't get around the "Content still encrypted" Steam message. I've deleted the appcache folder and restarted Steam.

GAF am I boned tonight? :(

LoL, everything set to max at 1080p and Afterburner says the game uses 1500mb of VRAM and 2800mb of RAM.

So much for "4GB OF VRAM IS A MUST!!!!"

Time to try out 60fps.

If you're in the US and haven't used a VPN to run the game yet, that's because the content is actually still encrypted. The game unlocking early for the US was a mistake.

A lack of graphics settings is disturbing. How would a 2gb gtx 680 do as far as maintaining a constant 60fps?

Outdoor areas like the dense forest etc will fluctuate between 30 and 60, but most indoor areas should be 60. Performance is pretty good on my 770 2b

A mistake i am thoroughly enjoying.

Does DSR work in this game? I am using mod drivers for SLI Titans and it's not working correctly. Instead of downsampling, the game is displaying the entire resolution so I can only see top left of the screen.

Also, I tried forced alternate rendering 2 and it seems to work for SLI, but I have only played the game for a few minutes.

oh man, that's a bummer.

My GF bought the game on PC as well, had it preloaded, and is playing this right now. We were trying to save bandwidth by only downloading it once, so I didn't preload until it was too late. If I grab her decrypted files hopefully I can get Steam to launch it.

Are there settings I can dial down to maintain 60 outdoors? I prefer a steady framerate over pretties. I'll be running at 1080p

You can use a VPN to decrypt the game.

Beautiful, thank you. Trying to decide between the PS4/PC versions, I'm okay with 30fps on my older system.

I'm in the same boat.

So far I'm leaning towards PC (I have a 2GB 670).

Positives
- Cheaper
- More stable framerate (30fps minimum, 45+ unlocked, compared to 30 with frequent dips on PS4)
- Much better load times (A few seconds vs 10+ PS4)

Negative
- There are a few reports of crashes
- Not a lot of graphical settings options

Did I miss anything?

I played for an hour and a half with no crashes. Switched resolutions while streaming to twitch and alt-tabbing etc. Was stable for me - windows x64 sp1.

780 Ti has 3 gigs of vram. Not 4. Not sure where you're getting that number..

Sorry, mistype, my bad. Good to clarify.

Wait, is this already out? Mine just says preload complete and gives me an encryption error when trying to play. Steam says it unlocks in 2 hours.

I think you've covered it all! I guess it's also whether or not you want a physical copy vs. digital, hard drive space and Kb/m vs. Controller preference.

60 fps works great for me. Now, if only I could get past the first
hide & seek chainsaw section. I've died about 45 times and have progressed about 20 feet. His movements are not scripted, so you don't appear to be able to memorize the movements and thus cannot act accordingly. Fucking limp. I'm sure it will be a great game once I get past this dull, tedious, and seemingly impossible section that makes me not ever want to play the game again. The best part about it is that it's in the first 15 minutes of the game.
I guess all you "if it ain't virtually impossible, I'm not happy" survival horror people are in for a treat. Same for you "I want to see the same death animation at least 50 times in 20 minutes" folk (yes, drunk and frustrated).

Character model's pretty damn good. The hair is surprisingly good when so many games get it wrong these days

Yeah it's mouse all the way.

Twitch shots to the head when they are super close.

ONE problem I did notice (other than texture popin) is my shotgun (preorder bonus) fired both bullets one after the other - I didn't press twice, I just had it held down. It fired way too fast, or are they both supposed to come out at the same time? But I thought you get 3 bullets... :S Might be to do with the 60fps setting, not sure.

Sorry, I meant the game itself to play in the US.

Ah I see, apparently it was unlocked for a while in the US and then relocked...but here in UK it has been out for a few hours.

Go into the room. Behind the boxes on the left are a couple of glass bottles you can use to distract him with. It took me a few tries after I found them, but it wasn't too hard once I could lure him out into the corridor.

Wow the mouse acceleration is terrible, the FOV is killing me, and the aspect ratio is claustrophobic (some may say in a good way, but not me.) I may hold off on playing this until they fix the 60 FPS stuff. For me it seems to drop when I change the aspect ratio.

GTX 670, i5 4670K, 8GB Ram if interested.

Huh, had no problems at all with that part. Just wait until he turns around and you can get to the next safe stop without any problems.

Sneak up behind him, stab him in the back then run

his movements are scripted and it literally takes 1 minute to get through that room.
if this gets you stuck,I weep for you in the later parts of the game.

I had problems with that first part too, I didn't know you could do what meathax said.

I had to
throw bottles to distract him

wow I had no issues at all with that, weird.

is there a tutorial on how to do this?

I would be interested in this too if my shitty DSL didn't mean I'd end up not getting to play until after official unlock anyway.

JaseC helped me out in a PM, I asked him to treat me like I was 5 with step by step instructions xD

http://www.flyvpn.com/
- Download the client
- Run it as an administrator and input the info of one of the free accounts (the passwords change every 20 minutes or so, so if you get an error upon trying to log in, refresh the page)
- After logging in, connect to a Hong Kong, Asian or European server and wait for the FlyVPN client to report a successful connection
- Type "What's my IP" into Google to ensure it's changed
- Restart Steam and run the game
- Quit the game and then switch Steam to Offline Mode
- Kill the VPN and play the game in OM while you wait for it to unlock for the US

At the very least I got my unpacking out of the way which is taking nearly an hour alone.

Yes, yes, you're all better than me. You probably have larger penises too. Leave me alone. I'll try again tomorrow.
I can't play yet but tried in my head and was able to do that part on my first try using only my massive penis to control Sebastian. Also I did it at a rock hard 60fps max settings cause my PC's massive penis wanted in on some of that action.
