The Evil Within PC Performance Thread

So, the game runs well on AMD gpu's I take it? Got a 7950 3gb card myself. Also, anyone know if the game can be played with a dualshock 4?

i5 2500k (stock)
7950 3gb
8gb ram
SSD

Maxed out and played the way the game was intended (30fps, black bars), I get no drops so far. Runs at constant 30fps and feel like...30fps. Which is perfectly playable.

With the console command and set to 60fps, I got upper 30's in the first outside area that you start in, fluctuating to 60 in some parts. When it was 60fps, it did not feel right. Like a strange stutter was happening every so often. I ended up just locking it back to 30.

I can play a 30fps game, I have no issues doing that. My computer is aging and it's time to upgrade soon. Oh, the game also loads very fast.

Also - Does anyone know how to disable the splash logos upon launching the game?

Just got to chapter 6 and still streaming. Steady 30 at 2880x1620 with no hitching with a 780Ti. Not sure why they tried to sabotage the port's reception, it runs well locked! Performance unlocked was weird through, swung about like crazy from 40-60 at 1080P. Which is weird given I can stay at a lock 30 up to 3600xwhatever

Looks really nice most of the time, great lighting.

Not quite what I was expecting when they said you can remove the black bars on the PC version:

Maybe this was an oversight on the way this option was communicated in the media but cropping the image is not removing the black bars to me. The only worse option I can imagine is a colorslider that let's you colorize the bars "See? The black bars are gone, now they are red!"

So anyone who has played extensively run into any "quirks" playing at 60 fps 1.8 aspect? I guess there might be some very minor ones that you won't notice until you play both ways though.

Same though in some sneaking situations it gets a bit annoying to have sections of the screen chopped off limiting your view. Overall it ain't that bad
Happened to me in that very first sneaking section. The top bar hides your view over the wall. Overall though, yeah, it's good. It has a nice presentation.

Yeah I agree. Little bit misleading.

What I understand from this thread is that unlocking the FPS gets you strange results and stuttering, correct?

Also, I believe this game does not support SLI, correct?

Seems pretty smooth for the majority of people at 60 FPS, haven't seen too many issues.

Id5 doesn't support SLI.

Boooooo

Oh well, guess I will find out at some point how this game runs on a single 580 with the FPS unlocked. Unless someone here is playing this game on a 580 as well.

Edit: saw gavin's post just now too. Good to see that there is no stuttering.

Are you sensitive to frame pacing issues out of interest? I am. When the game tells me it's running at 60 fps sometimes it feels as smooth as that should feel... and other times it feels incredibly stuttery for 60 fps.

Okay so I am at Chapter 4 or so and my system is:

Core i5 2500k OC'd to 4.5Ghz
4GB DDR3 1600 ram, Gskill Ripjaws X
GTX 580 1.5gb

Runs perfect maxed out at 1080P, It's good to see all those fears and claims were unfounded absolutely rock solid 30FPS. The game looks absolutely amazing to be honest, some really awesome texture and model work and holy shit at the lighting being so good.

Well fuck, I can't play the game. HD5850 (1GB VRAM), 4GB RAM and Phenom x4 955.

Even with every setting on minimum and running at 720p the game runs at 25 fps in the intro (altering settings doesn't even seem to be doing anything actually). I'm not playing a game that runs that badly :/

FFS that game runs on xbox 360/ps3, and while old, that computer is still way more powerful than those.

Since you have a 580, how is the game with the FPS unlocked?

Haven't bothered to check to be honest, I got sucked into The Evil Within.

I'd say to be honest, 60 fps for this seems kind of unnecessary considering how great it feels at steady locked 30.

That's weird coming from someone who is pretty much a diehard 60fps guy.

What type of AA?

PS3 and PS4 versions use different assets. I'm guessing PC is based off the PS4 version.

That actually sounds good. Was planning to play 30 FPS only since the devs said that 60 FPS might be buggy, but seems like people here are not reporting any issues.

If you can check the game with the FPS unlocked and mention here, that would be very helpful.

the PC version doesn't scale down to the 360/ps3 versions, so that's not surprising.

Yeah I'll post it tomorrow, I have to get some sleep haha.

Why do people always assume the PC version is the port? Do we have information on how the game was made accross platforms? Do we know they made it for console then took that over to PC?

Not quite what I was expecting when they said you can remove the black bars on the PC version:

So the game isn't rendering the whole screen with the black bars covering it. I might be mistaken but that was how RE4 did it.

No hope for a back bar removal option on consoles now... :-(

Modern game engines and the new consoles' architecture make it kind of a silly distinction in most cases anyway. The overlap between PC and XB1 alone is pretty huge thanks to DirectX, so it's not really worth calling PC "the port" as if that means it'll definitely be messed up and bad.

Anyone getting stuttering at 60fps? I'm hoping it's an easy fix :/

i7-3930K at 4.6GHz
32GB RAM
2 x GTX 980 4GB (forcing TEW to use Single GPU)

Any ideas?

Eat you damn heart out, Ben-Hur.

Probably a stupid question, but can anyone explain what I'm doing wrong here?

R_swapinterval <NUMBER>
Sets the FPS lock. Note that the numbers below are negative.
-2: This is the default, set to 30 FPS. This is the officially supported frame rate
-1: This sets the FPS limit to 60. Fully playable, although there may be quirks (we’re going to fix these).
0: This fully unlocks the FPS. We do not recommend playing above 60. We will not fix any issues above 60.

So I've unlocked the command console in the game, and type the above, trying to get 60FPS. I keep getting "unknown command" when I type R_swapinterval-1.

Any help?

So when the resolution is set to "1920x1080", does it actually mean "~1920x800" because of the black bars, or does it kinda vertically downsample?

huge bummer if true, my rig is similar to yours.

guess it's finally time to build a new pc.

Add a space in between the command and the -1.

Need to put a space between swapinterval and the number.

For example, I used "r_swapinterval 0".

Arghh! beaten :P
