Expendables hasn't posted in this thread since the better reviews came out. Probably hitting refresh like a mad man on RT waiting to post the next negative one he finds.

You posted that right when those two new bad reviews hit. Just saying...

Like some have said..it could have a zero on RT and they would still go, me included.
Notice how Plainview posts immediately after you call him out. He's like the little brother listening at the door, wishing he could be bigger.
Sorry homie, Jason Scwartzman and Zoey Deschanel arent in this one. There are no Beasts, no Celestes or Jesses and there are no Al WeiWeis. You are better off heading downtown and watching The Intouchables for 100th time than spending time in this thread.

Celeste and Jesse wasn't a good movie.

daaaaaaaaamn.......hahaha

A friend watched this earlier and is raving about it, especially JCVD performance.

He did say that he found some of the jokes with regard to Arnie were overused and a certain character all out disappears after 5 mins, but overall, he thought it was great.

I didn't like the first so I doubt I'll be watching it, but I'll ask the GF/mates if they are interested in going to see it over the W/E.

also just back from a screening.

SO GOOD :D As good or even a tad better than the first due to more gore(although CGI) and much more comedy moments and just banter between the group.

Chuck Norris and Van Damme were the best :D And Dolph Lundgren has a much needed new comedy tone to his over the top character.

There was only one cringeworthy dialoguescene regarding Terminator/Diehard/Rambo. Otherwise it was all pretty self ironic, as Arnold himself states during the film :D And most CGI helicopters and such are REALLY cheaply made, and the image quality itself is very blurry.

Go see it, dont think about it, its fun and highly entertaining throughout.

Got my tickets bought for the late night showing this Saturday, can't frikkin wait.

It'll be 4 player coop of the PSN game first with copious amounts of beer and then off to the theater!

Shitt I'm so hyped. I love Arnold but I think T3 and some other tings have tarnished him of late (of course his old legacy is untainted). But I'm just mega hyped for JCVD as the villain, that's what's got me amped like crazy for this.

Kind of think Fast and Furious series is giving this a run for it's money though what with casting Carano and the dude from The Raid.

Just saw this and it was great.
Tons of fun and great action, liked it more than the first one.
JCVD killed his performance, he's the number one star of the movie.
And he goes out like a true final boss type of villain ina an amazing fashion.

I also loved what they did with Billy. Basically, you could tell he was going to die from the first scene, and all the scenes leading up to his death were extremely funny.

This will probably be just me but
I absolutely hated the Chuck Norris scenes, an unnecessary nod to the most annying internet meme ever. I hated that fucking meme, and the internet while it was popular. Norris isn't even the type of actor that fits with the rest of the crew. Everyone else in the cinema enjyoed the scene though, it got a lot of laughs, so I'm probably alone on this one.

Oh, and
"This thing belongs in a museum."
"As do we."

Perfect ;_____;

Glad to hear all these positive impressions. I watched a couple more flicks today.

Code of Silence – The only clean cop in Chicago, Chuck finds himself stuck between two warring criminal factions. It took four credited writers to cook this up and boy does it show. For the first two acts its a pretty straight forward police film, while in the third it becomes an over the top actioner with a robot—sort of a low rent precursor to ED209—helping Chuck rescue a damsel in distress. The wonky storyline does give Chuck the opportunity to stretch a bit. He has a few emotional scenes but looks largely uncomfortable with the concept of human emotions. Of course Chuck shows off his martial arts abilities, including a pretty good fight where he takes on twenty guys. Andrew Davis does fine work that feels like a rough sketch for his next directorial effort, Above the Law. It might be a bit light on action, but overall it all adds up to one of the better films in Chuck's oeuvre.

Nowhere to Run – Freshly sprung from a prison transport, Van Damme finds his way to a small farm house. He proceeds to spy on Rosanna Arquette as she takes a bath, read some pornography and expose himself to Rosanna's kids. You can tell Joe Eszterhas wrote this one. Anyway, Rosanna is currently fighting to save her farm from an evil land developer, so it's fortunate for her that Van Damme shows up just when things start to get ugly. The always dependable Ted Levine delivers a solidly menacing performance as the heavy here. The action is great, including a wonderful off road chase sequence that sees JCVD on a motorcycle pursued by horses. The final confrontation includes a bunch of fun stuff, including Van Damme and Levine tumbling off the farm's rooftop and continuing their dust up without missing a beat. The story borders on a bit sappy, but that's fine. The weird sexual elements, like the children complimenting JCVD on the size of his penis and providing commentary on his sexual prowess, adds a bit of an edge to things. Not Van Damme's best vehicle, but still extremely solid.

Alright Expenda-GAF...everyone is here at the apartment, going to watch Commando and hopefully First Blood Part 2 (if we have time). Love all the positive opinions so far, looking forward to adding mine when I get back tonight/tomorrow morning. Catch yall later.

Damn Jeff! Cuts to the bone!

Saw it yesterday with a bunch of friends.
My god, what a fantastic action film! Audience were applauding and cheering, so many memorable moments. First one was good but wait till you see this one :) What a great year for action film fans, Raid and now Expendables 2!

I'm newly moved to the city I'm in right now so I'm rolling out solo tomorrow night to the movie but not a single fuck is given by me.

I'm seeing this shit with a first night, first weekend crowd.

Just got back home. Holy shit, what a fun film! The movie was exactly what I wanted it to be, and what the first film should have been. And my wife won me a signed Chuck Norris poster!

Impressions in this thread have convinced me to go see this tomorrow morning. I planned on seeing it either way this weekend, but I have the day off now I can't wait. God, I love a good action movie.

Much better than the first one. And Norris wasn't all that bad (still a giant pussy though)

And they just had to put a fucking Chuck Norris internet joke in there for good measure :p

Best action movie this decade, for me.

That crown was placed in the first 15 minutes, which is better than the whole of Expendables 1. That opening set piece had parts from the trailer that I just assumed were part of the climax because of how big they looked, scale wise. It had an incredible pace to it.

The "saggy" middle that I keep hearing about isnt slow at all. After the first set piece the movie goes a total of 10 minutes before they are out on their next mission..and they never get off the mission. The middle isnt saggy, its stringing along the plot. Its an action movie plot and what I always appreciate about an action plot is how simple they are. No need for subtext and pathos just something that makes me root for the good guys while in pursuit of the bad guys. Plus if you like the team you like watching/hearing them bust each others balls.

The climax..I think I was punch drunk. There are so many deaths in the the final showdown and like the first one they figured out ridiculous ways to kill someone (think Statham swiping a guy 3 times with a machete or when he put a handgun up to someones stomach and fires 5 bullets into him). I needed a rewind button like...30 times.

And more than anything..I was smiling the whole time watching it. Nostalgia was my date for the night. I brought my fathers dog tags with me (he served in Vietnam) and I just thought the whole time how if he was still alive Id be bringing him to see this tonight..the same way he took me to see Commando and Red Heat and Marked for Death and Rambo 3 and Die Hard and Red Scorpion and just about every action movie that came out before he passed in 92.

Finally, three important things to know..
Those clips they released, specifically the motorcycle/helicopter and the airport assault...just like any good internet clip they are chopped to shit. They are MUCH better in the movie.

The CG sucks but what can ya do.

Ill be curious to hear if anyone else found the movie blurry during a lot of the interior stuff. I have no idea if this was film or digital..I would assume digital because of how soft the picture looked. Its either that or the RPX screen I saw it on. Which was LOUD. One friend was crying about how loud it was..I tried to break his back.

Hope everyone loves it like I did!

Hum movies shot with good digital cameras are extremely sharp.

Well put, the first fifteen minutes of the movie are legendary, the dialogue was exceptionally awful in the best way possible
"I now pronounce you...man and knife!"
and I just had a blast all the way through. I noticed what you mean about the blurriness, and we watched it on a digital projector, and there was definitely nothing wrong with our projector; I'm pretty sure it's just filmed that way *shrug*. Oh well, I don't care, all I wanted was super awesome over-the-top action and that's what I got so I'm happy :)

Fucking awesome movie, so much better than the first one, which you'll quickly realize in the opening scene alone. That intro could pass as the ending to most action movies.

It's a lot goofier than the first one (in a good way). The original movie took itself way too seriously, this one has a lot of fun with the concept. More silly moments and intentionally cheesy jokes and one-liners, a bunch of references to these guys older movies, etc. In one of the early scenes Jet Li parachutes out of the plane to deliver the guy they just rescued and Dolph goes "Now that's what I call Chinese takeout". So corny you just have to laugh.

When Norris showed up and
killed all those dudes, blew up a tank, and recited one of the Chuck Norris facts
the entire theater went crazy for like two whole minutes. Laughter, screaming, cheering, clapping. I've been at a lot of midnight showings and have never seen a reaction quite like that. Was awesome.

Oh and poor Randy Couture got T-Dog'd in this film. Not really a complaint (never cared much for his character), more of an observation. Dude was constantly in the background of every scene but only spoke like once in the entire film and it was some shitty throwaway line (asking Terry Crews for a cup of coffee or something). Lol. I guess they kept him around so they could get the MMA crowd.

If you have the slightest interest in old action movies then for the love of everything go see this. Hands down one of the most fun movies I've ever seen. Its also hilarious if you're into cheesy one-liners. My theater ate that shit up.

Just got back from seeing it. Waaaaaaay better than the original! Some quick thoughts...

+ More focused on the team instead of just Stallone and Statham
+ Better pacing
+ Humor and memorable lines were improved
+ The gun battles were much more entertaining

- Less gory than the first
- Not enough Van Damme
- The final one-on-one battle was too short
- Could've used at least one more "boss" villain for the others to face, I would've been fine with Stone Cold's twin brother
