EDIT:smaller now

Borderlands look like a really good time in that co-op video. In the end when he dies, he got killed by three hits from a scag? Looks like second playthrough will be that much better.

hmm. mixed feelings about Borderlands. On one hand, Jeff is super positive abut it and the gun selection and upgrades do look cool.

But on the other hand, the environments and the combat looked blah. the enemies are pretty mindless and the tougher enemies just seemed like damage sponges.

I don’t know if I can care about how cool my gun is if all I’m shooting are the same small group of rats or scorpions again and again in a level.

It really looks like co-op will make or break this game. if you don’t have friends to play it with, it might not be worth it.

well, unless you’re a lootwhore, then bring it on.

I haven't seen 1 min of footage from Borderlands that doesn't look boring as shit. I'm still going to try it out, but it's definitely a rental so far.

This and the Bancho Quick Look were hilarious and informative.

Thus, I decided to give GB another chance and delved into some other Quick Looks at random. Totally depends on the commentator's form (and my interest in the game itself, I admit) but I'd say most are really hit or miss. I just can't stand some of them, yet others are a joy to watch.

edit: and the Demon's Souls quick look kinda made me not want to play the game anymore. I've got way too many different games to play to spend a lot of time on just one game, as sad as this sounds on paper. That the game makes you lose progress when you die doesn't help, either. Now that I understand the game a bit better (than the jp videos I've seen before made it look like) I think I'm with Gerstmann on this one.

Borderlands just looks incredibly dull. Guns seem fine, but who cares when you're in those lifeless environments with lifeless enemies? Gerstmann seems to be enjoying it, not sure if he's just trying to be impartial in the quick look or what, but it looks just awful to me.

This game was day 1 for me. But now...well meh...It just seems so boring killing these things from afar. The AI looks decent at best. As you said sponges. Went from super excited, to I'll wait till its cheaper on the PC, unless there is some breaking news on some awesome gameplay. Guess I'll put that money into Left 4 Dead 2, more money to keep YAY!

The game doesn't make you lose progress when you die. Although the game will be difficult until you figure that out. Progress in this game is not stats or gear, or at least not significant progress. The way to get forward is to learn what the level is like, what the enemies are and where they are and how to deal with them. It is entirely skill based, the only way to loose progress in this game is to either stop playing it or get injured in some way that you have trouble using the controller as you did before.

Meh. I really wanted Borderlands to be awesome, but most of what I've seen and heard lately has deflated my hype for it. The combat just doesn't look that interesting with what looks like terrible enemy AI and damage sponge enemies. I'm not impressed with how the skills are handled either.

Borderlands didn't look that bad. I think I'll be picking it up for the $40 it's advertised at WalMart.

Is this in Canada? Where can I find this advertisement so I can go to Futureshop and price match it, if I can get it for that little might as well dive in before L4D2 comes out.

I thought Borderlands looked boring going into that Quick Look but they totally turned me around on it, I liked what I saw quite a bit. I can totally see myself enjoying it as long as I've got a bunch of people to play with

My question, though, is whether or not Brad/Drew/Ryan will have to redo those same quests in their own single-player games even though they just did them in Jeff's game. That might actually be the dealbreaker for me, since why the heck would I want to just redo old quests in single player if my buddies aren't online to play with me, nahmean

Yeah, dawg! Check Firestorm's Canada deals thread. There's a scan of the flyer in there.

To me, Borderlands is more a game I'd enjoy programming than I'd enjoy playing.

Well, at least regarding the dynamic weapons generation stuff.

Thanks for the heads-up man. Hopefully, Futureshop will honour this and price match it to the PC version, even if that should be even cheaper by $10.

If you check out the official thread, the people who are really excited about it absolutely love loot. The loot is more important to them than the story or setting or anything else really.

Hell, I'm not exaggerating when I say that a lot of them actually loved Too Human just for the loot. Most lootwhore games other than Diablo are horribly flawed in some, or a whole bunch of ways.

Basically if you consider yourself a lootwhore, this is definitely your kind of game. If you're like me and enjoy loot but don't like when it's the focus of the game, then yeah, it doesn't look so good.

I'm kind of sad hearing all of the negative impressions of the Borderland's quick look. I am still at work and haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but considering how excited people have been on various podcasts the reactions here kind of come as a surprise. Then again it is just a quick look and I only have to look at Demon's Souls to know that a quick look doesn't always represent how fun a game can be.

I already have Borderlan's pre-ordered on Steam so I sure hope it turns out okay!
