Brad can probably beat most of you at starcraft.
I'm sure he could. But OoT is easier to do than RTS strategy. Why can't he figure out "BOX GOES ON BUTTON" if he's capable of being good at Starcraft? That's what baffles me.

Doom 2 XBLA quick look, it's a controller, but it's on there.

I just watched it. I don't want to sound horrible but first I heard Ryan talking about shooting barrels, then Brad called up the map by accident, didn't look at it and proceeded to wander around confused and lost.

Then he brings up the map again, doesn't zoom but then picks up the red key. Then forgets where it goes.

Ryan says "This is a good taste of how Brad plays Doom 2"

I agree.

Is anybody else able to get any videos to work on the site? I'm trying to watch a Quick Look, and about 50% of the time it will sit at the initially buffering screen indefinitely, 25% of the time it will start and play about 30 seconds before it thinks the video is over and goes to the next one, and the other 25% of the time gives me some error about the stream not being available. It's been getting progressively worse over the past couple of weeks, coinciding with the new redesign I believe. No problems with streaming video at any other website.

I love me some brad, but i was getting visibly angry at his antics in OoT/. Jabu Jabu's belly is a 10 minute dungeon at the most. Then i have to remember its his job to play new games. He doesn't have the luxury to go back and replay games like most of us do.

I'm still gonna hate and be mad though

This was indeed painful to watch. Went back and listened to when Vinny sees the crates and says, "There you go." Then, "Aww," as Brad destroys the crates.

I'm not mad, really. Just... disappointed. Brad can do better than this. :P
I don't know... did you see the Infamous 2 quick look?
Looking for collectables in a save you're not ever coming back to? That does not a good quick look make. :D

No way you guys have never gotten lost and stuck in Zelda before and if you say you haven't you're a damn liar.
Yeah I can't get on Brads case. I tried playing Twilight Princess launch day of the wii on two days of no sleep and I couldn't even fucking climb ladders properly and didn't really know what I was doing half the time.

He just came back from E3, cut him some slack.

I read the thread yesterday and thought you guys were overreacting, but this OoT Quick Look is abysmal. The part with the two electric blocks, him not finding anything, the crate part. Wow, just wow. Game looks good though, wish I had a 3DS.

Weird. The re-design resulted in a much more responsive player for me. I don't even have to click Play twice to get it to start any more.

As for the Quick Look, I remember being stuck getting to the boss of that dungeon. Also, he was under pressure to finish the dungeon quickly and not die, while being on the brink of death a lot of the time.

You guys get way too worked up over a video of people playing video games

I think that sometimes it's warranted, though. These are videogames, after all, and when you're presented with a gameplay puzzle, the need to solve it becomes ingrained in your mind.

When you've already solved it five minutes ago while the guy you're watching helplessly flails around missing the literally most obvious thing in the world, it begins to eat at you:

"I know how to solve this puzzle. I want to move on."

And the longer that person spends not seeing the obvious puzzle solution and not moving on, the more it bugs you, and bugs you, and bugs you. And then it hits that moment, after minutes of aimlessly wandering around, where Brad breaks the crate for the fifth time and says he's probably missing something and you're like

"I am going to reach through this monitor and strangle you, Shoemaker."

I like how he has a bottle and wants a fairy, but when he finds one after beating the big octorok miniboss he seems to not even see it.
I noticed that too but I guess it's hard to pay attention during quick looks or something. I mean the amount of times that some of the guys miss things that are literally pointed out to them is quite staggering, like in the Alice QL where Ryan didn't know where to go in the lava level after the fight on that platform that started by showing him the exit. He even runs there once and sees a platform go up and down and decides to run off before going back.

But let's be serious here. We all know what OoT looks like and how it plays. We only watched this video to enjoy Brad and Vinny's silly antics. I see what you mean, but I don't agree that it is warranted. Getting upset over something like that is, well, stupid.

And getting upset over people getting upset over it is stupid.

I don't think anyone got upset over the video. And no, not everyone knows what Zelda is like, people in this very thread don't know, and this is GAF, typically more skewed to the engaged gaming audience I'd say.

It got a touch too serious in here. Obviously nobody is visibly angry over it. Poor choice of words, perhaps? He took the time to reply to my post, so I thought it only polite to reply back.

Continue with your quicklook discussions

Hell I can't believe I just watched all of that, it was one hour long**

Kind of made me want to play Twilight Princess.

That's exactly what I wanted to do after watching it. But I've barely touched Shogun 2, so I don't really wanna replay it!

The notion of "I want to strangle you, Shoemaker" is definitely part in jest. While there was some annoyance, it's mainly flabbergast and disbelief that they could have missed something right under their noses so many times in a row.

And the thing is, we know what the original OoT looks like. I was genuinely interested in seeing where the new graphical polish had been applied in the 3DS version, and they chose the tail end of one of the ugliest dungeons in the game and then proceeded to run around in circles for most of it. And while I do watch Giantbomb quicklooks more for entertainment than information, even the entertainment value tanked as it eventually degenerated into Brad and Vinny constantly wondering aloud, "I don't know what we're missing."

I definitely don't hold it against them, nor do I really look down on Brad for it (as the GB guys have repeatedly stated, holding a conversation while simultaneously hurrying through a game to show as much as possible is super hard, and Brad has previously implied he may have a bit of stage fright at times)...

But dayum.

All the quick look did was reminding me that I already played OoT. And then I played a couple of more games that were just like OoT. I am not going to spend any money on this.

Yes. And people, settle down over this little video.

Are videos downloading super slow for anyone else? It started for me on Thursday or Friday, when I download a HD video it never finishes.

I'll download something now and get back to you.

Brad definitely seems to be affected by talking to the other person in the Quick Look and whatever else he has to keep in mind when playing a game while being filmed. I know he has beaten RE 5 on Professional, something that's fairly hard to do and was certainly too annoying/diffcult for me to accomplish, but when he played Desperate Escape for a Quick Look he was all over the place and I think that was just on Normal.

I have no problem with people getting annoyed with or amused by the crates stuff in the Zelda Quick Look, but there's no need to make the jump from that to saying Brad is bad at games. It's just not true.

I think all this fuss could have only happened with a Zelda remake but still giantbomb should have known how Zelda fans are
Mario vs. Donkey Kong
Resident Evil 5: Desperate Escape
It has nothing to do with Zelda.

Being 'bad' doesn't have much to do with it. There are many recorded examples of Ryan and Vinny sucking, but they don't seem to aggravate anyone. Brad's just really absent minded and doesn't seem to respect the fact that there's an audience. Ryan and Jeff never seem to lose sight of the fact that "yo, there are people watching this."
Also, I'm not 'freaking out' or even really angry at Brad or anything, I just think he's generally bad at running Quick Looks.

So weird. Do y'all get this way when you watch people in person play games? I know I had a shitty friend that used to snatch the controller out of my hands when I couldn't solve a puzzle instantly and he's played the game before while I haven't. I hate that guy.

Because these things are analogous?

my bro-in-law is a casual gamer so when i see him fuss around in an action game or FPS, i wanna jump in but not gonna snatch the controller from him. i think i'm used to seeing how bad people are in games from watching LPs on Youtube.

i don't think Brad was super terrible in the Zelda QL. that particular dungeon he was in was easy to get lost in. i think Brad should've started from the beginning of the game instead. saved himself some grief.

I dunno, I'm actually the opposite. I like watching people figure out things for themselves, and only give vague hints if they really ask for it. The crate part was kind of an extreme case, mostly because Vinny's comment ("there is probably a crate or something right, check down that hall... oh, there you go!") makes you think they solved the puzzle in about half a minute. And then Brad proceeds to smash the crates multiple times while traversing about half the dungeon looking for said crate. It just made me go 'you solved the puzzle, so why aren't you... um.. solving the puzzle?' in my head for the ten minutes it ended up taking him.

Also, they have a weird selective blindness going on with the maps. Part of Brad's brain must know it's there, since he points out the map at the start of the quicklook. But then he seems to completely forget it exists, and run around wondering which door to take and if they have visited certain rooms yet. I wonder if it has anything to do with your eyes wanting to keep focused on the top screen if they have managed to find a comfortable 3D focus.
