There's an ample supply of "just beat the game" Achievements, and a bunch of MP-related ones of varying difficulty. Then there's a class of Achievements for doing "extra" stuff - finding and collecting. Something for everyone.
Those are exactly the kind of Achievements they deliberately avoided. You would be shot to death repeatedly by your own teammates every time you got near a flag cap point. That's the kind of stuff that hurt Gears of War MP. All of the MP Achievements are for either reaching certain experience ranks - which discourages quitting since you lose RP for doing so - or for FFA games where you're supposed to be killing guys. I love objective games, but Achievements like those would ruin them utterly. They are very well thought out.GDJustin said:waaay too many achievements focused on single playerThe multiplayer has so much depth I'd hoped we'd see some multi achievements tied to specific gametypes (take over a total of 50 territories, or cap 25 flags, or whatever).

But Voc - you will soon learn to fear the pink mist. Oh yes you will.
I did find it ironic that the major proponent of "the lazor is over-powered" in our group was the same guy sprinting for it every game. Taking you out on High Ground, snagging your laser and then shooting you with it when you tried to take it back - charging through the gate - had me whooping so loud my daughter came to see what the fuss is about.Mr Vociferous said:Nah, welcome to splazerville. I agree. I think they learned from what Epic did with Gears of War. At first glance it seems like a cool idea, but you have so many dorks hellbent on getting the achievement they'll just do that and break the fun for everyone involved. You don't want to encourage that behaviour. Achievements should be used to discourage annoying behaviour as much as possible by rewarding the opposite.GhaleonEB said:Those are exactly the kind of Achievements they deliberately avoided. The multiplayer achievements are all designed not to break the game. I think the hardest one for me personally is theachievement. I like how a few multiplayer achievements10 head shots in one game. I also kinda figured that theare also achievable in the single player. I do kina wish they would have put in aterminals would further flesh out the storyand something like areaching the rank of General achievement.15000 kill achievement
On a side note, we need to start being mighty careful about the spoiler tags. I feel like we almost need to nominate someone as an interim mod just to clean up some of the posts that have spoilers (however minor they are).

Those were just examples. The point is Halo 3 is going to be the most-played online multiplayer videogame for years and years, and yet the game's achievements are "beat level 1. Beat level 2. Beat level 3. Beat level 1, AND find this hidden doodad" etc etc.
Given how rich H3's mutliplayer is going to be, I'm just really disappointed by the achievements. I was hoping the SP achievements would be 1 for beating the game on each difficulty, and maybe 3-5 other misc. SP achievements.
No achievement for sharing a film? What about having a shared film become downloaded X number of times? What about an achievement for creating a popular custom gametype (since they can be shared as well)?
Perhaps Bungie is so proud of their rich Campaign that they figured it deserved half of the achievements.GDJustin said:*rolls eyes* Please.

What if it has four player co-op?GDJustin said:I don't doubt that the campaign will be stuffed with riches
But people won't put millions upon millions of cumulative game-hours into it like they will the multi.

One week (a mod-enforced requirement). Two weeks before release I'll start a thread to complete the gamertag listing started in this one. Then one week before release I'll start the official thread that includes those tags.NJ x Falkor said:Ghaleon will be starting an Official Halo 3 thread two weeks before Sept. 25.

That just turns things into a popularity contest. Bungie wants to reward participation, not attention whoring. No achievement for sharing a film? Google definition: The game beyond the game. This term is usually used to describe player interactions and what goes on between games.
That doesn't help much, but here's what I thinking:
Tomb Raider Legend had achievements for completing each level under a certain time. I think the meta-game will be similar, only its point based. You get X points for each Brute you kill, X points for each flood form you kill, etc. and points are given for the amount of time it takes you to complete the level (obviously, the faster the more points). So, you could zoom through the level in 10 minutes without killing much of anything, but you won't get enough points for the achievement with a quick time. Or you could take your time by killing everything, but get zero points for taking an hour to complete the level. So, you have to find the right balance. And you could maybe do it online with a buddy.
That's a good theory. Here's what Frank said in a recent update:siamesedreamer said:"Meta-Game"
