The Halo 3 Beta Thread

Blargh! I'm going to miss most (if not all) of the beta due to work......I'm going to be away from a high-speed net connection for most of the summer, and the beta starts the day after work begins. Gonna throw my gamertag out there just in case I manage to slip in an evening here or there.



If you see me, come shoot me. It'll be fun!
 
That would be awesome, but I somehow doubt it. :P

Are there any details about the needler yet? I still have hopes that it will actually be a cool/useful/viable weapon in this game.

Well in the update, in regards to the leaks it was said "it makes us angry that some people want to ruin the surprise for others"

I read into things, and live in my own excuse for reality.

Correct. It is after all, a test of Matchmaking and related-tech. However, we're giving parties plenty of options. And you can play split-screen. 2 players only in beta.

No they haven't. You can assume with a map like Valhalla, 16 players and BTB will be part of the show. It's pretty much a given.

Private parties were also pretty much a given being that the party system is what makes matchmaking really special. The custom game setup will be missed, but I'd rather wait for the final feature set before tinkering with anything. I imagine we'll have some level of player customization and a good variety of hoppers to choose from.

I'm not certain about the social features Frank's referring to specifically, but in some un-ranked matchmaking playlists, you can get a good party together and keep that party without adding any unwanted strangers. So, for example, if you had 16 people in your party you could enter a hopper that allowed for 16 people and no strangers would be added. Bungie would pick the host, gametype and map, of course, but it would mimic the party privacy of a closed custom game.

Questions for those in the know: How will we be fairly matched up? Will we get a preview of the new 2 stage ranking system? I'm sure this will be answered in the next week or so, just throwing it out there.

I was looking forward to High Ground the most too, but once I saw the extent the terrain is elevated on Valhalla (Thanks leakers!) I think that may end up being my favorite map of the three. And... I do love my vehicular craziness.

I'm looking forward to Valhalla the most out of the three maps. I love big team games (minus quitters), and I like bigger maps that are good for sniping. The terrian in Valhalla looks like it will ad an interesting dynamic to the gameplay, it reminds me of Relic a little.

Yeah, I want to take that Banshee around Valhalla. It looked like there was a big lake behind the base with a banshee from the recent vidoc.

The two ranking systems appear during the internal beta's leaked footage, whether they'll be the same and/or in the beta remains to be seen. The new ranks are currently titled "Total XP" and "Highest Skill," the latter being the H2 ranking system and the former allowing for military designation...someone can correct me if I'm wrong about any of this.

The concept I got from the military designation is that it is a representation of the combination of your skill and your XP. XP you gain by playing games, Skill you gain by not sucking (if it follows Halo 2).

Crackdowner. I'm in, I've been playing Halo 2 single player on heroic lately, I hope it helps me suck somewhat less.

Crackdown. Is the best SP game I have played on my 360. The fact it came with the Halo 3 beta makes it so much more awesome.

Hey Stinkles, how is the framerate when you have 4 players split screen? I am so worried about 4 player parties that I even got 2 360's just in case. However now I realize that I could have 8 player parties with my 2 360's, so how is that framerate going?
 
Updated OP with tags through post 239. I saved and made sure the new links worked, then went in to edit the status and in the editing screen, no text appears. I must have overloaded the system - still can't get any text to appear when I move to edit. Hopefully I can update the post later and it's just a temporary glitch. :lol

I'm in thanks to Crackdown.

I didn't play Halo 2 online all that much, the rampant cheating drove me away pretty quickly. That being said, I can't wait to get my hands on this badboy. :D

Its funny. I have never been good at Halo or FPS in general, but I want to play this game. I don't have either a Xbox or 360, but I would buy one if I was guaranteed a spot in the Beta.
 
Thought I'd post this here, not sure if anyone has already done so but... Game Head has an exclusive visit to Bungie Studios next Friday (May 11) at 1 AM. It's a show with Geoff Keighly on Spike TV.
