The Halo 3 Beta Thread

After a few games of sucking and getting used to the controls, I can pretty much hold my own against most other players. If I'm playing with good teammates like urk and Y2Kev, I'll consistently get 2nd or 1st when it comes to kills. Don't worry, so far I haven't been getting my ass kicked too much. :P.

Alright cool...

Tommorrow I am going to play the shit out of Halo 2... so I am set in the Halo mentality. Can't wait!

Anyone know how it'll download via Crackdown? I mean, after you press the button to get it, will it add a download into the "Active Download" list, or must it be downloaded through an internal system in Crackdown?

And what's the size of this thing?

I'm so upset, our internet got capped for the month and isn't uncapped until late this week. Which means I get the Halo 3 beta later than I would have had I have respected the download limit.. :(

I should have kept a closer tab on it.

Rlan, not sure about that, I'd imagine it would download in the same way other games and demos have come down, but that the download would only be accessible through the Crackdown menu.

We've been asking questions like this for a while but no one seems to know. I think you'll have to download it internally through Crackdown after the option is enabled through a small update or some other method, and then you'll probably need to keep the disk in to play.

And I believe its 900 Mb.

Edit: Oh snap, I'm no longer a junior, sweet :D

There is a video out that shows where that switch is. When I find it, I'll put a link in this post.

I don't even have the beta but I think even I know where the switch is. There's a cave with the portable grav lift that opens up next to the gate/wall where you can deploy the grav lift to reach a sniper roost. Switch is then downstairs and to the left from there. Or something. Actually I dont really understand the flow of the map. Correct me if I'm wrong, but when first deployed the attackers get two paths, one the cave and another valley type thing that lead up to the base. They are both exposed to the gate/wall and funneled into a bunker type thing that leads into the middle section of the base, with some sort of destructable gate blocking the path to the flag.

The switch seems really damn hard to reach in that case, outside of using the grav pad.

You download it from the DLC screen in the main menus of Crackdown. Right now there is a Halo 3 option but it's grayed out, when it's released it'll become something you can click on to download. It's around 900 megs and donwloads the usual way through the marketplace.

To launch it you'll need the Crackdown disk, it doesn't get added to the demos section or anything. This was probably done to stop people from just renting Crackdown by requiring the disk to play.

I edited my post with the direct link to that video. If you are on defense, it's on the platform to your right. The switch is shaped like the warp speed switch on the RV in Spaceballs.

Yea, I saw that. Seems like the bunker splits off into two sections, one heading to the gate/wall and another to deeper in the base. That'd make opening the gate easier.

Yes, the tunnels look to add a whole new dimension to High Ground. You have the wide open space, then those tunnels that go into the sides of the mountains that provide you with fun close quarter combat situations. High Ground will probably be one of the top maps on my list to play most, even after all of the maps come out...but am still trying to reserve judgement until I get to play. Come on Wednesday!!!!!

Thanks!

The sad thing is that I've passed the damn thing on my way up to the Spartan Laser hundreds of times without even realizing it was the switch. :lol

I mean, I tried to kill one of my own teammates earlier tonight on High Grounds, not realizing he was on my team (I'd just played a game where I was the other color). All he was doing was trying to avoid me while I jumped around shooting at him and he says "what the **** are you doing I'm on your team! you got tourettes or something?" He didn't even shoot back and I couldn't drop him. That's just disheartenting.

LoL, no problem man. I was curious to find out where it was too, then I remembered watching a video showing where it was. The hard part was trying to figure out which damn video it was since I've watch so many just to dull down the "pain" of having to wait until Wednesday to play. :lol I can relate though b/c I just started playing Halo 2 online and I feel like a complete F-tard running around not knowing where weapons spawn..either that or jumping the wrong way and falling into oblivion. When I do find a weapon I would like to use, I feel like a 2 year old on Easter that found his first hidden egg. :D

I can never tell if I'm red or blue either. I usually end up looking down at my legs to see what color I am. :lol

Damn, nobody will want to play Halo with me after spilling my guts like this. :(

Just a little over 24 hours now for us Crackdown-ers...getting close.

Yup, and hopefully Bungie gives us the map layouts and other media they promised tomorrow. Not sure if it will make the day go by any faster, though. :(

Anyone got any idea when they'll be sending out the codes for people to download?
Frankie said earlier that you'll get the code "right before you start playing". I took that to mean the codes go out as soon as the Beta is public.

Halo. 3. Beta.

People play it whenever they can, however they can. :p

I just lagged out of a GAF game, where I was getting raped so hard it's not even funny. I've played with about 20 GAFers, and on average I'm about 1/4 their skill, as measured by my death:kill ratio. It's pathetic. I probably won't play any more social game for a while just in hopes of getting matched up against people something close to my sad level.

I cannot understand why I can't kill anyone. I've tried dual-wielding, shotgun, AR, BR, you name it. I get into a fight - even when I get the jump on someone - I die first. Half the time they're not even LOOKING at me, and I start shooting them, and they turn around and kill me.

I still don't understand the layout of High Grounds. I stumbled upon the switch to open the gate for the first time tonight. Others have shown me where it is, and I've spent entire games doing nothing but look for it, but half that time I just end up lost in tunnels. (This from the guy who gets lost on Lockout, bear in mind.)

I imagine your problems is that you aren't adept at deploying grenades and they are. At least if the previous two games are any indication. Also if you don't do headshots with the BR you might as well use a different gun (again, if H2 is any indication). Should be booting this up in about 24 hours anyway.

Though I really don't see how you couldn't kill someone while dual-wielding if you get the jump on them and are reasonably close. It doesn't even require aiming beyond keeping your sight on them.

Hey you guys should check out my films i uploaded. I have some really good strategies for VIP and Oddball.

+24 with 0 deaths

2 of the videos are in splitscreen so you can see how we were running the strategy.

The VIP 101 video shows the game i linked up there.

GT - Father Whiskey

Oh god, I can hardly control my excitement.

Can someone tell me exactly how much longer until it is released? The Bungie countdown is stuffed for me. (it shows different times in different browsers)

bring back rumble training and make rumble pit how it should be once again Halo Gods!

PLEASE!

Do you have to have the Beta in order to watch the saved films? I didn't even think of that :(
The game engine recreates the films based on the game data in the files...so yup.

Not long now, though.

For what it's worth, it's extremely hard to kill your teammates opposed to your enemy in the game, as far as killing them with a gun anyways.

GT- Dartastic

I definitely want to get it going on with some GAFers when the beta launches for real... I don't need a 12 year old kid gunning me down with the laser over and over, then calling me racial slurs. Thanks, but no thanks.

It shows you how much "aim assist" there is in the game, if nothing else...

(Hint: a ton, well for H2 at least)

I hated lining up headshots with the sniper rifle only to have the assist reaim for the chest. ><

Yea, Halo 3's aim assist is NOTHING like 2's though, thankfully.

So what's this silly dashboard interaction people seemed jazzed about anyways? (Holy crap I can't believed I just typed that)

You can see a players stats and all that goodness right from their gamercard, I guess. It's fully integrated into the blade.

GameTrailers (I think) has a video on it.

When you click on a friends gamer profile that has played Halo 3, there are two extra options. Halo 3 Service Record and Saved Films (if I remember correctly). You can click the first one to see their halo 3 stats, and the second one to browse and download the saved films they have shared.

It's pretty neat.
