The Halo 3 Beta Thread

We're aware that some users are having difficulty downloading the Halo 3 multiplayer beta via Crackdown. Bungie Studios is working with the Xbox Live team to resolve this as quickly as possible - stay tuned. Gamers entering the beta through other means, such as the Friends and Family remain unaffected.

I can't freakin believe they haven't even acknowledged the issue or released a statement, I mean it's been 3 hours. That shows a complete lack of respect for your hardcore fanbase. The people who spent $60 just to play the beta and waited up all night for this sh*t. WTF?
They did acknowledge the issue. Both Frankie on b.net and MajorNelson

But seriously. Was this never even tested?

"Hey guys, we have a couple hundred thousand people who likely want in on H3 beta through Crackdown... let's not test it until the moment of truth is upon us!"

"Excellent idea!"

Ok they acknowledget it, but no one has said whats the problem is or likely ETA.

grrrrrrrrrrrrrr: I'm going eat some lunch / breakfast

So, Ghaleon... is it OK to be "disappointed" in the way this has been handled yet?

Oh, you're not there, are you, you're probably playing right now!
It's OK to be pissed as hell, I'd say. Microsoft knows how huge Halo is and they took advantage of that through the marketing tie-in with Crackdown. It really is a massive indictment of their cert process that they can't get this working, when they announced the exact start time over a month ago.

I'm not playing right now though, and probably won't most of the day. I took the day off partly to for the Beta, but my wife is using that opportunity to have me babysit one of the kids so she can get out. I don't blame her, but that means no TV time for me for most of the day.

They acknowledged it with a "We know it's happening and we're working on it" statement. Major Nelson shut his Web site down with a message saying the same damn thing. That's all Microsoft P.R. is spouting at the moment.

This is one of the biggest **** ups in software. When you promise to release something like this, you make sure it all works. Then you have contigency plans. Then you have contingency plans for those plans. There should be so many fixes and back ups that nothing goes wrong. But then, to completely alienate an ENTIRE group of people, the majority of the Beta users, with nothing more than "We know it's happening and we're working on it" statements, it's completely unacceptable.

I'm not blaming Bungie because they're not the ones that handled this. But going by the track record of the recent map pack and some other Microsoft things, I'll be seriously surprised if this gets released today. And it wouldn't surprise me if it's not delayed a substantial amount of time.

But most people didn't pay $60 to play the Beta. Crackdown is a hell of a game.

not MS, bungie posted and recognized the problem, but no clear solution
oh sure, I know that much. I'm just really surprised they haven't told us exactly what the problem is, or when we might expect it to be resolved (even a ballpark figure: there's a huge difference between 'a few hours' and 'a few days').

I am headed back to Seattle in a few hours, so I’ll be offline while I am in the air. For the most up to date information, keep an eye on Bungie.net for the latest from Frankie regarding this issue.

This site is experiencing an excessive traffic amount of traffic at this time, so sorry for the temporary nature of this message. We’re working on getting back online as soon as we can.

You seem to know how things work.

Crackdown always sounds like that on the initial menu screen for me. If that's what you have in there, then that's why. ;)

Oh. That was scary. It would suck so bad if my damn 360 broke before I play halo. :lol

I thought the biggest flop in software was Windows ME.

Maybe it's just me, but it wouldn't be AS BAD if Bungie or Microsoft released some kind of statement or SOMETHING to the thousands of fans that are waiting on this.

Why? Once the issue is resolved, no one will remember that there even was an issue.

An update would be nice.

Im kinda used to this wait, cause i used to play alot of WOW and patch days used to be a bitch, but at least when Bliz had problems they would give the customers constant updates...

the only update weve gotten is.. yeah we know theres a problem hopefully it gets fixed soon toodles!

Downloading the free Halo 3 Red Vs Blue thing off the Marketplace. Brings back memories. I own the first season on DVD. Or maybe second. Either way hilarious stuff.

Wow, there are some psychopaths on the bungie.net forums. I hope I don't get to play against these type of people in the BETA. That guy needs to seek help, killing himself coz of a videogame?

Anyway, I hammered Man Utd, 0-5, ohhh that felt good :lol

"<accountability/explanation of problem> a) it will be fixed in X hours/days b) it is unfixable, and here is what we are going to do instead..."

that's all I want. if they say it is unfixable so be it, I'd just like to know.

damn, some halo fans are ****ing crybabies. i'm glad i didn't stay up for the beta. but ummm, i told my boss i'd be coming in late today just so i could try it out. what a waste of taking time off. i think i'll go play some aegis wing.

It wouldn't matter if they did, because hypothetically, you wouldn't read it, now would you? :)
