How much does the shipping to Canada cost though? For new movies Best Buy seems to have same prices as Amazon.com but Amazon can't be beat for deals.
It's a lot cheaper if you're buying many movies at once, plus no tax. The shipping by default is about $20 so it's not worth it if you're buying just one item (a BD disc for instance). I haven't been charged fees at the post office in my past 10 orders now, they've all arrived directly in my mail box. I haven't experienced any stores having new releases for the same price as Amazon, except maybe those $20 releases.

Also no reason to buy Kill Bill when it's not the uncensored version. I just have a feeling that we'll see another release. Casino Royale is coming out again later this year, better version, and 300 sometime next year I think.

$7 or $8 for the first disc and $3 per disc afterward. It comes pretty close to being worth it if you buy just one. Between B2G1F deals and 40 - 50% discount deals, it is always cheaper. I average around $20 a disc. In Canada that's as good as it gets.

I agree about Kill Bill...but isn't Casino Royale and 300 just going to have some different extras (it isn't like they're director's cuts)?

I dont even really like Kill Bill, but having the fight scene in black and white is awesome. I saw the Japanese cut too, and meh, I liked the stylistic touch of the B&W more.

I've seen what the uncensored version looks like, and I think black and white fits that scene stylistically better anyways. I haven't seen KB since it was out in the cinema (I don't own the DVD) and I really want to see it again and in high quality. Casino Royale and 300 look to be the same exact encode as already released so I don't care about double dipping there either.

*edit*

Wow... I swear I didn't read your post before replying above! :lol

I'm tempted to get KB from Amazon then, if it really gets delayed here :\

Kill Bill's not exclusive to Amazon, only the two-pack bundle. The two discs are, to the best of my knowledge, being held up for actual release in Canada because they have a different distributor than in the US.

Great. Amazon, here I come. Saving made on buying the bundle will more than offset the price of shipping, considering how much each individual disc will cost here, whenever it releases. I'm sure they need their sweet time to make dual language box art just right.

If what you both said about the black and white is true (although subjective) then I'll consider it since I like those movies obviously. But about 300 and Casino Royale, I actually want those extras, don't care if they're the same cuts. Especially commentaries, I love those. I already have Casino Royale and it's unfortunate that I have to double dip. I held out on 300, wisely I guess.

BTW Canadians should be able to order the Kill Bill amazon.com exclusive set, I just tried proceeding to checkout and there are no restrictions (maybe because it's preorder? Not sure).

You can order it from Amazon (and presumably any other online retailer). I just meant its not going to be at any Canadian brick and mortars until October 21.

I know, but sometimes there are restrictions on some electronic items from amazon.com shipping to Canada, you just can't do it. I haven't experienced it yet with movies though.

Oh wow, that looks great (screens from blu-ray.com review) and clearly Tarantino didn't allow Disney guys to pull off any DNR shenanigans.

Yeah I can't bloody wait. I skipped the DVD releases hoping/waiting for a "special edition" release or "The Whole Bloody Affair" or whatever, but no way I'm doing the same for blu-ray. I love the films so much, I watched them on DVD recently (rented copy) and I enjoyed them even more than when I saw them in theaters originally. So glad that all reviews highly praised the video and audio quality. Too bad no new special features, since I've already seen the ones on the DVDs which are the same on the BDs.

I doubt Tarantino had anything to do with these releases, to be honest.

Is that ever going to see a blu-ray release? If not I'll just settle on the original BD release.

Tarantino has nothing to do with Miramax/Disney at all anymore, he is loyal to the Weinsteins so yeah pretty much.

And even if he were still tight with the Miramax camp, QT has always struck me as a guy who doesn't really give two shits about home video releases. Seems like he puts all his effort into the theatrical release, then steps away.

The Weinstein Company owns the rights to The Whole Bloody Affair AFAIK, and it's only just started getting its Blu-ray releases off the ground. Don't expect it soon, but it'll turn up eventually.

I wouldn't be surprised. Thankfully Disney has been consistently delivering impressive video transfers on BD.
Yeah, true. Only thing is, Disney has sometimes been applying DNR on some of the catalog releases, so I was wondering if this movie would get the same tratment (would be a shame given just how much this movie relies on the whole film lore).

But yeah, their BD releases have been as good as it gets so far. I can't wait to see what the Sleeping Beauty is going to look like. That side by side comparison from the trailer looked amazing.

I disagree and it's not just that scene, there's bunch of other differences.

This German site listed them all with screenshots and shit:

I couldn't care less about Kill Bill, but it boggles my mind that they're still holding back the uncut version for its western release.

Yep, the scene is more effective in black and white, especially in comparison to the beginning of Kill Bill 2. The way it cuts to b/w on that slice is just great, and does a great job at showing the desensitation to violence that the character has attained.

Great movies, I can't wait to own them in hd. I actually passed on the dvd versions because I was busy waiting for The Whole Bloody Affair, I won't wait on these however.

got my speed racer today. I'm hoping the quality is ok, as it seems crazy to cut costs on a BD-25 and yet its a 3 disc set, with one DVD dedicated to some stupid DVD game, and another just for the digital copy. Also has a cardboard cover so its not a cheap pack to put together..

BTW, whats up with the digital copy on this? The label on the front says its compatible with mac and itunes, but the DVD just plays and says 'insert in PC DVD drive', and the help site doesn't mention anything about mac compatibility. Even the leaflet inside the pack says not compatible with mac. So which is it? if anyone has had digital copies with mac/itunes support, how do you activate them?Maybe I'm missing something.

I've never heard of The Fall until now, I skimmed through a couple of reviews and now I'm very, very intrigued. Might end up buying it, thanks GAF!

Just saw some local (New Zealand) pricing for Iron Man and Indy 4 on Blu-Ray. $79.95NZ - that's $53.24USD at today's exchange rate. Meanwhile it's $27.95USD at Amazon. What the fuck?

It's like they're begging us to import this stuff, so they don't have to bother trying to sell it locally.

Who you gonna call on Blu-ray? Not 'Ghostbusters,' with Sony apparently sacking the planned Fall debut of the comedy classics.

As reported this past July, during this year's Comic-Con in San Diego the studio hosted a Blu-ray booth on the show floor that touted an October next-gen debut for both 'Ghostbusters' and 'Ghostbusters 2,' complete with a large overhead banner advertisement (featuring the tagline "Get Slimed in High-Def!")

Though Sony offered no further specs or official details on the Blu-ray releases, retailers had begun to report a planned October 21 street date, designed to tie in with a new Ghostbusters video game from game maker Activision.

But now it looks as if fans will have to wait a lot longer for the Bill Murray-Dan Aykroyd faves in high-def. Despite mounting anticipation, Sony never officially announced either 'Ghostbusters' film for Blu-ray, and now we've received word that despite the promotional push at Comic-Con, the titles remain TBA on the studio's next-gen slate.

At presstime there is no word when 'Ghostbusters' may finally appear on high-def, though as Activision also recently pushed back the street date for their Ghostbusters video game to next year, it's likely the Blu-rays have also been held back to coincide with the release.

All I've got to say is Nooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been flicking through, but is Kill Bill Vol 1 the Japanese cut?

No because Miramax who is a subsidiary of Disney will not be allowed to release an unrated/NC17 film.

The only way to see a HD uncut Kill Bill is to wait for the Weinsteins to release the Whole Bloody Affair or hope a Japanese company releases it on blu-ray.

Is there a good site for this or do you want pics?

Well you know how you can list your DVDs on certain sites I thought you could do that for blu rays too..

...pics are acceptable as well :D

dabookerman said:
YES!

This also means it has some extra scenes as well. It's like 6 minutes worth. That's excellent.
The release is the Japanese cut? I thought it was B&W.

That begs the question - why didn't Canadian distributor, whoever it is, release the uncensored version then?

Also, question: Is the US home release (DVD and now BD) the same exact cut that was shown in the theaters? Theatrical version also had B&W fight scene for example.

It is B&W.

There was an interview with Uma Thurman back in April where she mentioned that production was just wrapping on an anime that goes along with "The Whole Bloody Affair."

If we don't hear anything by the end of the year, I'll probably just pick these up. I'm sick of waiting.

I just bought The Prestige on Blu-ray. I got it for £8.50 off of Ebay. Is this a good Blu-ray film (quality wise)? I've also never seen the film :D

Here's the problem. The seller sent the thing before I had paid for it, sending it to my old student address in Nottingham (I live down South nr London now)...which is totally fucked up. I didn't realise this and paid for the item with Paypal, which has my correct address...but too late. What do I do? :(

Nice, just watched this last week on DVD. More WKW in Bluray is always good (especially if it's Fallen Angels or Happy Together).

I've been looking for a review, too. If it's a good as the Fallen Angels and Chungking restorations were, I'll be all over it.
