I am getting so sick of this! Where is the Steelbook edition for the folks on this side of the ocean - you know WHERE MOST OF THE BLU-RAY SALES COME FROM?!!!!

FutureShop is the only place in region-A doing them: I Am Legend, Indiana Jones and Iron Man so far. Dark Knight is a given... I'm kind of surprised that FYE hasn't started doing Blu-ray steelbooks considering they have them available for the DVD versions of almost every major release now.

Master and COmmander had a shitty video score. Unsold

You should ignore that video score. Master and Commander's transfer is just fine, if not Earth shattering. The look of the film is such that it isn't exactly Speed Racer in the "Let me show off my HDTV" department, but I thought the Blu-Ray was perfectly good, and it makes up for flashy visuals with raw badassery. I certainly wouldn't let their review stop me from picking it up.

Finally got to watch some of Speed Racer. It really is incredible.

My wife said semi-seriously: "this looks better than it did in the theatre."

Not true, but the point was made.

A couple of exclusives for Canada: the original Nightmare On Elm Street was just released (no extras, but video/audio is very good from what I've read) and Sin City is arriving on October 21st -- US release isn't until next year.

Any info on Sin City? I couldn't find any info on which version (theatrical or extended) or extras.

The price is right, but I've already got the fancy DVD version and don't want to have to triple dip later on down the road if this is just the theatrical cut.

i know this is kinda off topic and possibly a stupid question but:

ok i got a 1080p hdtv as a gift, and for some reason sd tv channels and hd xbox 360 games come out really blurry, worse than it would on a sd tv. hdtv channels come out ok. is it b/c i have the two set at 1080i when it would look better at 720p? if thats right, how do i switch my cable to 720 p. i cant seem to figure it out...also, if i got a ps3 and hdmi cables, it wouldnt look blurry since i have the best cables and the ps3 is capable of doing 1080p. is that statement right? thanks.

Pushing Daisies looks great except for the fact that the high resolution makes a messed up special effect in the first episode glaringly obvious (when Ned touches the first dead guy in the morgue). Boggles my mind how no one caught it.

I noticed that too.
but, it's made for TV and held to a different standard/budget.

Damn is the show colorful though. Wow.
Kristen Chenowith looks SO old on Blu Ray too. My wife pointed that out while we watched the pilot.

There's no such thing as "best" HDMI cables. They're generally all the same. Go for a cheap HDMI cable and it will get the job done as well as any branded ones.

Also, you might want to try running your 360 in 1080p before switching down to 720p. The 360 upscales everything to 1080p via component and HDMI. However, from what I've read, not all TVs are able to accept 1080p signals via component. It works on my TV though and I'm getting a 1080p signal for all my 360 games.

Cant believe i got 1408 and The Mist from UPS yesterday considering the circumstances in Houston.

Cant wait to watch the black and white cut of the Mist.

Depends on the cinema or the screen, no? I saw Wall-E in Chi-town for my vacation and it looked terrible. I'm VERY confident that my 57" Mitsu is going to look better.

Also, rumors or a $149 BD player for Black Friday? Yes please.

*crosses fingers that whatever model it is has bitstream support*

I looked for this, but I guess I'm missing it. What is messed up there?

Oh man I just watched Hero, the Jet Lee movie on DVD and its a shame this isn't on blu-ray yet. It looks jaw dropping already, I can't even imagine how beautiful it's gonna look in HD! Seems bluray release is on hiatus though.

first episode where he;s talking to the victim in the morgue. He's supposed to have a chunk of his face missing, but the effect wasn't done with HD in mind and it looks poorly done and moves around on his face.

I just watched the movie in color, but popped in the second disc and the intro to the black & white cut made me want to watch it again.

We saw it on a very good screen.

Since we remodelled, we got a nice screen ourselves, and movies look even better than before.

I am getting a few Blu-Rays tomorrow. If they do actually make it I'll be very excited.

Iron Man
The Happening

Are stores really putting out the movies this early? Iron Man isn't due till the 30th and Happening isn't due until Oct. 7th. I understand getting a movie a few days early, but this is crazy if you can pick them up this far in advance.

Iron Man's been sitting in our backroom for over a week already; I'm surprised there aren't more copies out so far.

Are places actually selling Iron Man early? That's a must-buy for me, but I can't imagine where I could get it early.

http://www.thehut.com/hut/thehut/blu-ray/offers.list

having a bluray promo - UK based.

and amazon.co.uk has a buy2 get 1 free promo as well but the list of movies is extensive. (and if you're not from the UK, and your order, they remove the VAT from the sale price). so compare contrast prices + combos on both sites to maximise your savings.

of course with blurays, region coding so buyer beware.

Can anyone recommend some good Blu-Ray review sites?

All I know is highdefdigest and dvdtalk, any other decent ones?

I don't like to look at too many. Gets a bit overwhelming. Add bluray.com and be happy :)

Has anyone purchased A Chinese Odyssey Blu Ray box set?

dvdbeaver, or something like that.

Very good comparisons between BD and multiple DVD versions.

Turns out there was a slight delay in the packages and I'll be getting Iron Man BluRay and LEGO Batman tomorrow and The Happening & You Don't Mess with the Zohan on Tuesday.

Ordered Big Fish and Kung Fu Hustle on Blu-ray today.
€12,50 each (shipping included) :D
I can't fucking wait to see both of them in HD. Especially the gorgeous scenes in Big Fish.

Hey guys how are Blu-ray sales now?

The charts aren't posted here anymore, though I don't expect that BD sales have grown tremendously.

I would imagine sales will start to rise with Iron Man, TDK, and all the Blu Ray holiday promotions. It's going to be a very important holiday for the format, and will likely determine a lot in terms of how entrenched it can become.

edit:
specu, it would be tremendously helpful if you put at least some basic information along with the advertisement. Like, the store name and if it's available online.

I can tell by the Ad that its Frys and the fact that they have had racks right out in the middle of the store saying "hd dvd blowout."

www.frys.com will probably tell you if its happening online or not.

Big Fish was cool, watched it for the first time on BR and its definitely a good looking film.

Kung Fu Hustle is one of those films where watching it in Hi-Def makes it better, I didn't enjoy the DVD version that much but for some reason watching it in BR I found it really enjoyable.

Anyone else had that kind of experience? Might just be typical "second time round" thing, but that is also a good looking film.

has any one gone to best buy recently to get pick up the mist?

I was there last night and I had checked online and the priced said 21.99, but I got to the store and it was retailed 29.99

they wouldnt go with the online price claiming it must've been an issue with the site.
I didn't make a big deal about it because it's not my "regular" best buy I shop at, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue.

side note: If someone can point me towards a store they know of in california selling the Iron Man Blu ray early fill me in :D

Is this series any good?

All I know is its one of the "3 famous Chinese stories" (or something like that), never seen or heard any of it - so I guess I have something cool to look forward to.

Is this story best experienced first time as this tv series or should I go book or some other route?

Sold! It's a dollar cheaper than Amazon too. :lol

(Although $27 is still a lot to ask for, but I really enjoyed the movie.)

27 bucks for whats in the package is a fantastic deal. there is close to two hour long making of feature on the second disc and then tons of extras...all in HD which is quite uncommon.

Yeah, but not with KFH because I couldn't get surround sound working with PCM (my receiver doesn't support it).

I'd say 300, Kingdom of Heaven and Troy were much better experiences in HD. For the latter two it could be because it was my first time viewing the Director's Cut of each film, though.

An odd choice, but I enjoyed I, Robot a lot more on Blu Ray than on dvd. I must sound like a broken record in this thread, but that film looks and sounds unbelievable.

A Chinese Odyssey is not a television show, it's a two part movie starring Stephen Chow (Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle) within a unique take on the novel Journey to the West. And yes, it's really good.
