Yeah, Kingdom Rush is completely broken due to the necessity of using purchasables in later levels plus the Necromancers coupled with turrets that are unable to prioritize targets or aim at a specific place... Way to ruin a great game.

Well, unless they completely changed it, I have no clue what you're referring to. I completed all difficulty levels and all missions, including the latter ones without spending more than the buck I initially paid for the game. Granted, I haven't played it since it got new content, but what I have played constitutes what is my iPhone GotY and probably the very best TD game I've ever played.

I have recently noticed this too. It seems impossible to finish the later levels without using items. Its a damn shame as the game seemed perfectly balanced without the need to add on the item bullshit. :( bummer it was one of my favorite games before the items.

CAN'T
STOP
PLAYING
KNIGHTS OF PEN&PAPER.

Multiple over level 30 enemies fights are incredibly complex and damn hard.

Soooo fun, sooooo tense!!!

I love this game...if you ever spent your youth evenings playing D&D with a group of friends you shouldn't miss this game.

I just started playing this 10 minutes ago---and I'm in love. What a tremendous game!! Everyone should get it!

Can't stop playing Puzzle & Dragons. It is the only app I have ever made a in app purchase. Gungho has found the line between purchase being required vs. wanting to purchase in game. I'm toying with the idea of starting over and hoarding the magic stones for stamina and continues with the occasional machine play. Knowing now what I didn't know then would've saved me about eight bucks.

*brofist* it's good stuff and IAP really is optional, haven't spent a dime.

I'm not talking about IAPs, I'm talking about the items in the store. The latter levels are impossible without them. But that ain't my main gripe with the game, if I'm being honest... It's the fact that you can't prioritize aiming, or aim at a specific mob, which pretty much makes necromancers boring as hell unless you have poison arrow ranger turrets and many times will result in losing a star because the turrets are dumb and choose to target something other than the near-death and within reach mob about to cross the threshold... Stupidity incarnate.

True in every sense of the word.

Also, that tap mechanic in the "last" level I could completely do without.

I'm playing through it again (since my saved was deleted). I haven't used the gnome items at all, unless it is for a specific achievement, like freeing the Yeti thing.

It's perfectly doable without buying items. I had almost all the stars before. I just finished the snow stages.

How big is Asphalt 7? O_O

The size is listed as 1.16 GB but I have 2.4 GB free and it's telling me there's not enough local storage :(

Going to try and exchange this 16GB Mini for a 32GB, why the fuck did I think I could be fine with this small amount of space :(

I finished the levels a couple of weeks ago and didn't use any items at all in the main story. I probably should have though, I had a massive amount of money by the end.

To be fair, I did need them in the post story levels.

For Necromancers you just use your soldiers to keep them busy/locked down whilst everything else is picked off. Rest is just upgrading and especially using the instant kill skills.

Wow, really fun. I don't think it's worth $2 a song, but definitely buying the original now that I know what's up. The "Hello 31337" song they let me trial for free was crazy good, though...haha.

EDIT: Lil' B - Revenge of Arkanoid = most disappointing moment in video game history.

It's perfectly doable without buying items. I had almost all the stars before. I just finished the snow stages.

Why do you think I specified the last levels? The last one (somewhat) and especially the bonus 4 are now pretty much impossible to deal with unless you stock up. You'll see.

Again, I did specify last levels for a reason, you obviously don't need any items 'til you get to the bonus levels (and the last story level, if we're being honest here), but from there on, the game has become pretty much impossible without items.

Anyway, as far as the necromancers go, I know how to handle them (easiest way is actually poisonous arrows upgrade, since the skeletons are immune to them the turrets just aim at the necromancer and ignore the skellies), I'm just pointing out how flawed the auto targeting is, since it doesn't prioritize and it can't be manually aimed. And yes, instant kills and golems make everything very easy, but until you manage to get things upgraded, the auto targeting will sometimes be the only thing between a 3 star and a 2 star rating or between completing the challenges or not. I can't really count how many times I've had to restart one of these because the damn turrets choose to target some random enemy over an enemy that is not only in range but both almost dead and about to cross the line... Usually, reinforcements are the way to deal with these situations, but when you add flying enemies to the mix and the long cooldown on rain of fire, it just becomes too arbitrary. Winning or losing is entirely up to your level of skill, but perfecting a level will too often be a matter of pure dumb luck. The sad part is... the only reason this even happens is because the auto targeting isn't prioritized when it obviously should be, or at least give us the option to aim it. *sigh*

I just started playing this 10 minutes ago---and I'm in love. What a tremendous game!! Everyone should get it!

It gets even better later on :)
As soon as the whole 'dungeon master+friends' idea wears a bit off, things get really interesting as a pure TB game (lots of interesting fights and many varied enemies).
The thing I like most is that they mixed the generic quests with the meaty ones...meaning sometimes you start the most dull looking fetch quest (Collect 10 XXXX objects) and without warning it transforms in a cool multy layered quest that unlock a new class or proceed the main story.
I just completed a super big quest started so...took me 3 real time days to complete (and costed me almost a divorce).
I'm playing on a iPhone and for the very first time my iPad gets no love.
There are some bugs (already apparently patched in the Android version and awaiting for approval in the AppStore) and some mispellings, but overall the game is truly brilliant imho.
I just wish that getting rid of a character and substituting him with a new unlocked one wouldn't be at level 0 again...I unlocked many interesting classes but I guess I'll try them on another campaign.

As for now, this is my dream team:

Me: Warrior
Little Brother: Thief
Pizza Guy: Mage
Nerd: Paladin
Flower: Cleric

I'm around level 25.

I'm using the Paladin as a pure tank, while the Thief and the Mage do massive damage.

Sooo good.

I am in awe of how good this game is-reminds me of the time I first played Kingdom Rush, and you are treated to a Grade A quality game from a small developer. The amount of charm and polish in this game is top notch. Amazing! I have some free time right now and I can either play Black Ops 2 or this-and I'm choosing this. plus-2 bucks!!! You can't beat that!

One question though-I wonder what the origin of the developers is-there are some very bad "engrish" translations in the game, but I wonder if it's intentional considering the spot-on parody dialogue elsewhere in the game.

The Kingdom Rush comparison is spot on.

About the Engrish...the devs are from Brasil...they apologized multiple times on various forums.
As far as I know text was completely re-checked and the new, hopefully corrected, version has already been submitted (plus a bunch of bug fixes).
A new full fledged campaign is imminent too (I'm still in the first one).

As for the text...try the different Masters when you can...Yoda...speaks like Yoda sometimes...hilarious :P

I generally hate grinding and humor in my fantasy games (ie: I really didnt' like Bard's Tale) but for some reason I'm loving every minute of this game.
The banter between the players and the Master is awesome....so many memories!!!

Yes the banter is what makes the game on another level. So good. I love throwing in a ton of hard enemies and one of the players goes "WTF!"

I'll have to try the Yoga DM. I picked Doc Brown because you get mana regeneration.

If I have one complaint it's that gold is very sparse and its not quite clear what you need to purchase/upgrade. For instance, the blacksmith improves your armor-but I didn't even see armor for the guys to begin with-that aspect wasn't clear. That being said I love the game so much I bought some IAP gold to support the developers and now I have plenty to spare, but otherwise that might be a big hindrance.

Well, keep in mind that later on gold will start flowing (I'm over 1K contantly).
Regarding the Blacksmith...it's a meta game inside the game...you have to upgrade it (mining metal that respawn every 6 hours or so) and then have him actually make the weapons or armours, which take initially 6 hours in real time.
BEWARE...the blackmisth can FAIL it...so you end up wasting money AND time, and this lock out the blacksmiths for 6 hours too.
I bought in the meta game various upgrade to increase luck, lower the blacksmith costs and time and I'm good to go.

Initially things are pretty easy, expecially considering you, as a Master, can pratically choose difficulty and enemies...but later on, if you want to proceed in the main quest at all, you HAVE to face stronger and more numerous enemies to avoid heavy grinding...and then things get really serious.
Magic enemies are particularly tricky...they do all sort of things on your characters.
(I LOVE IT :) )

Regarding Knights of Pen & Paper: iPhone or iPad?

It's universal so you can try it on both. I heard it gets boring after awhile though, after the initial "hey this is a cool idea"-ness wears off, especially talking about the combat. I haven't bought it though so I can't speak too intelligently about that.

Downloading Puzzle & Dragons or whatever it is right now because it's free.

It does drag a little bit but I think I played it for about 7 hours before burning out, and I may still go back to it later. I think it works better on iPhone too, it's very much a bus/waiting/toilet game.

Regarding Knights of Pen & Paper: iPhone or iPad?

iPhone, no doubt.
It's Universal so you can try on both devices (no iCloud tough) but I hate portrait iPad games and retro ones on the retina display, imho it's an iPhone game.
Besides, you will want to have it with you always :P

Personally, according to the achievements, I'm over 15 hours and imho it's getting even better, but maybe it's just me.
High level fights are really engaging.
Sure...if you grind your way out and always fight 1 sub level monster, it's boring.
I try to fight at least 3 enemies around 5-8 level above mine, and it's truly brilliant.
Some bosses wipe out my full party in few turns still.

Puzzle&Dragons (and the various previous clones) is pretty good but the lack of a story killed it for me....after evolving above level 20 there is nothing meaningful to do.
It's addictive tough.

You should, it's a great game.
And Knight of Pen and Paper is really good, I started playing last week and I'm still playing it.

Same here.
I just wish the collect quests were just for 5 items, not 10.
They occasionally lend to VERY cool quests tough.
Around level 15 I started to wander about in search for lower level quests, because the main story arc was getting damn difficult.
I'm now into it again, and it's really hard.
The magical enemies (level 30) are really destroying me...I started using objects, buffs and all that.
Awesome :)

Puzzle & Dragons is almost a straight rip of Angel Salvation. Hmm..

I think it's the other way around....Puzzle & Dragons was in the Japan store for a long time...just recently was published in USA and Europe.
The clones arrived earlier.
If you have already exploited Angel Salvation (like me) there is nothing new to see there.

Ya that's what I heard, great game regardless. Really enjoy Puzzle & Dragons.

Clones:

Jewel Dragon (currently free, last day today I believe)
Angel Salvation (free)
Dragems (free)
The Lost Palace (currently free on iPhone & iPad)

This is what is so great about Defender's Quest (besides it's a top-class TD game). All your towers (well people) can be individually custom controlled with different AI priorities such as attack strongest/furthest/fastest/weakest/slowest/etc, and on top of that you can manually override all units to attack a specific target if you need to. That and a huge branching path of tower (character) upgrades, along with no consumable items (you have spells with a cool down, kinda like those in KR).

I was enjoying this too, but I've completed all the quests except for the one high level one, and even then it's just the final boss who is ridiculously difficult to beat. I can't bring myself to try and grind for another 20 levels or so to get to the point where I can take it on when there's nothing else to do in the game, so I give up. Fun while it lasted though.

Sims 3 (universal) is currently $0.99 if anyone cares. =p Reviews seem to be half love half hate, literally.

Is Defender's Quest on iOS? I tried searching but couldn't find it. I'm a hopeless TD whore.

Boo ):.
I got the tracklist from http://appparty.jp/infos/view/534 but it didn't cross my mind that they'd alter it based on regions. Oh well.

Compare the Japanese IAP song list to the International one.

"Track availability may vary by region."

I tried changing both App Store region and device language to Japanese, seeing as its the same binary worldwide, but somehow after wiping the game it still recognized my NA unlocks and store and gave me those instead. Someone who hasn't played the game at all will need to try to see if they can get the Japanese stuff out of it.

EDIT: Tried removing my Game Center records, reset my cookies... nothing works. The Taito ID stuff must serve to lock you to your region permanently unless they have a way to identify device region programmatically. There goes any goodwill I had for this game.

Is anyone with a Japanese iTunes account willing to experiment? Here's my thoughts based on some experimentation this morning:

What we know:
  • The Japanese App Store listing is the same ID as the International versions, so all versions have the same binary.
  • The game uses an always-on scheme and downloads music content on demand, unlike the original game.
  • There is some sort of method the game uses that allows game data to persist even after completely removing the app, Game Center records, and cookies. (This appears to be stored on the game servers, linked by either the optional Taito ID or your IP address.)
What we don't know:
  • How exactly the region lock works (see below list).
  • If the store the device is linked to can be changed - when is the link made?
How the region lock might work:
  • Based on IP address.
  • Based on device hardware region.
  • Based on App Store region on first startup.
  • Locked by Taito ID once registered, based on one of the above.
I think the best chance of getting the Japanese content is, BEFORE LAUNCHING FOR THE FIRST TIME, to switch both App Store and device language to Japanese. This might trick the game into assigning you to the Japanese store instead of the International one.

Love knights of pen & paper, however I wish the pixel style was a little cleaner. Or maybe even an art style similar to battleheart.

Knights of Pen & Paper also has some pretty dire spelling mistakes. I think the developers are Portuguese or something, but still. I've seen "mosters" pop up more than once, and there are plenty more in there.

Just PC/Mac/Linux for now, free online demo too, that lets you export your progress to the full game. It even has a New Game+ mode where you replay the campaign with new enemies bringing new strategies. Definitely one of the best TD games out there. Hopefully it makes its way to iOS at some point, they said they haven't ruled it out, but I don't think it'll happen any time soon.

FYI Knights of Pen&Paper update is live!!!

AT LAST!!!
Finally my paladin can make some serious damage!!!! (was bugged)

Tons of bug fixes, iPhone 5 support, retina and such...

Damn, $2 each for songs? And no retina support for iPad? What a shame.

Well, what you're actually doing is buying coins, which then can be used to buy songs and other things. There are discounts for buying large amounts of coins at once.

Plus, there's over 20 songs for free, so I'm not really going to complain about the cost of additional music. I -am- going to complain about the region locked store though (and I could use confirmation whether or not a device set to Japanese language and on the Japanese App Store can access the J-POP license songs or not - please see my novel above).
