How are OPs gonna work, btw, Jedeye?

Are we doing monthly "recaps" of what came out last month, or will the OP update throughout the month with November's releases and November's most talked about stuff, before starting afresh the next month?

arc squadron.

Is it just me or is there no background music? Might be a glitch... but that's weird.

I kinda wish I could turn sensitivity way higher though. Seems pretty fun so far!

Any update on Baldurs Gate?

Targeting 11-28...
The Baldur's Gate EE folks seem pretty intent that this is really happening the end of this month :

"...we cannot control the Apple approval process and as such we might get moved around a bit as a result.
On the PC we control the platform, so we'll go on the 28th, come hell or high water..."

I truly don't know where I stand about this game. I have been playing it for the last 12 days, it surely means there is something to it, but I would be hard pressed to advise anybody to play it.
I, I don't even know if one can 'play' it.

This is a card battle game with automatic battles. Odd, but hey...
It is wrapped in IAP and to me the buying scale goes directly from worthless to relatively steep.
The writing is plain stupid.
And the card art is good.

So I look at the beautiful art (something a lot of this type of game sorely lacks), I amass new cards, and my ocd / reptilian mind is ok with that. Really, I play it for what it is, no big problem with the product, but...
Maybe I'm too stupid but I don't really see the strategic layers you mention about stacking order and abilities, and above all, this is for me the absolute definition of a pay to win experience : I win every colosseum battles then... go up against a player that has been grinding some cards like crazy to be 10-20 levels above mines, or who has somehow got his hands on a serie of fabulous rare cards, and I get destroyed. No shit, Sherlock ?

I'm in no way saying you are wrong in your opinion, I just would like to catch this hidden coolness some people seem to have found. For me it's an ocd time waster, I check my Tiny Tower and then my Guardian Cross, but there is nothing really involving me here.

Evidently I can't speak about high level. There is potential for strategy here (or IAP crazyness).

I agree the story is retarded, but I don't think it's trying not to be. Story mode is just a way to get points and items to work towards winning at the colosseum, where the real meat of the game is.

Cards have a level cap, and higher rarity cards have an advantage, but the advantage is not absolute. The card's "type" determines it's stat growth (cool is normal, other types are +10% to one stat, -10% to another, and ace are +10% to everything). You can use items to further enhance your stats as well, but there is ALSO a cap on how much you can use (1/2 the "cool" level 1 stat is the enhancement cap). You can also get items to teach your guardians new abilities they wouldn't normally learn. So you could teach your 4 star card the high tier elemental attacks they don't normally get, so while they may not survive a hit, if they are fast enough, they'll be able to one shot one of your opponent's cards.

Later on in the colosseum it comes down to things like "did my card survive a hit, or was it one shotted?" Does my card have enough mp to cast it's super powerful attack twice?" "Am I better off upgrading to a +4 attack or staying with a +3 I can cast more often?"

Once you start hitting a plateau in terms of actual stat growth, all that other stuff starts to come into play, and that's where it gets interesting. IAP's just get you to that plateau faster.

just dl'ed the Ridge Racer demo. I think it's a port of RR4 It actually plays really well on the ipad. The demo only has one car though and The full game is $11.99? dunno if I should take the risk.

The music bug has been reported by a couple people, we've never seen it somehow, but you can fix it by restarting the app I've heard.

LOTS of requests for higher sensitivity.. part of the problem is if it's too sensitive the game becomes too easy as you can move the ship too fast. I'll see if we can drum up some kind of compromise though to alleviate the complaints.

There's one enemy I keep missing even though this is like my sixth time playing the level just to get it!

Edit: that was a pain...How can you post images easily on mobile? That took me like 10 mins just to copy the correct url..

I updated my initial post on Rhythmix/Rhythmanix. Half the info I originally posted was wrong anyway!

That said... I'm tempted to get a third iTunes account just to try Rhythmix, since both my existing accounts are for regions that got Rhythmanix instead. It looks like the two most reasonable choices are New Zealand and Canada; anyone have experience getting iTunes credit for either of these regions from the US? I lean toward New Zealand since they get everything first anyway, but if it's significantly easier to get credit onto a Canadian account I would probably swing that way.

Are you one of the devs? Game looks amazing, a shame that my wallet is currently empty to even afford it, but will do as soon as I can. Congrats!

This monthly thread shit does not bode well for bookmark lovers. Safari -> iOS thread is no longer a choice. Goodbye easy reading. Goodbye.

Why? All that changed is that you have to update your bookmark monthly instead of every three months.

Chrome -> Solve all your problems

I'd like Chrome on iOS better if it opened App Store links properly and if it didn't drain my battery simply by being there.

I personally use Picup. Works great in a pinch, though you then have to deal with Imgur resizing and recompressing everything.

If I could change the default browser on iOS for opening links and shit, I'd be right there. But how would Chrome fix there being separate threads?

There aren't separate threads. The old one was locked, and this one will be locked come December.

I ran through it just now and got 100% so I don't think it's bugged, but I would suggest keeping an eye out for the small guys who sometimes sneak out from behind asteroids on that map.

Yeah, I've come to a buying hiatus currently because my iTunes card ran out. I feel guilty putting iOS games on my card, so it's a rule that I don't buy anything while I have no credit.

And I just read through the thread Jedeye. I called "not it" to be thread maker, remember? No time and too much stress for something like that. I'd love to if I didn't have a million other things to do.

Right. Every month a new thread means you can't use one bookmark. It's a minor thing that I was making a big deal, really, but still annoying enough for me to complain about it.

Any reason you don't use the Subscriptions function of the board instead? There's no way I'd go back to tracking individual threads without it now.

doing swiping gestures like a trackpad is a bit of a pain tbh. Especially on iphone. I just don't like my finger all over the screen, which makes it quite easy to obscure your tiny ship behind your thumb.

If I can be able to move over the whole screen with my left thumb on the left side of the screen, I'd be happy.

Might need to balance it out somehow though inded.

What? I don't even...

I just have it that I subscribe to every single thread i post in. Makes keeping up with threads way easier.

yeah but horse sex thread as a subscription isnt a lot to be proud of when a cute japanese chick looks over your shoulder on the bus and sees it and asks and said she loves it and then everyone looks at you

I don't know how it drains your battery but battery life on mine hasn't changed at all. And I open app store links from it all the time. As a matter of fact I just did 10 minutes ago.

Get jailbroken and your primary browser problem is solved.

Same here, the gaf subscriptions function is a godsend. A lot better than having a million bookmarks

What the fuck just happened.

So if I'm a fan of the Angry Birds games, is Bad Piggies a logical purchase? Really just looking for another good time waster when I take breaks from reading.

General consensus was that it's surprisingly good.

It's quite a different game, build a vehicle out of set items (or make your own in playground maps) and try to reach the goal with the pig, extra stars for doing things on each level.

I think this actually says it in the OP but I'll say it again anyway cos I'm nice. This thread only has a recap bit because it's a new thing and we didn't want the OP to go up bald. In future, there should just be a "previous threads" section in each OP. The OP will be constantly updated throughout the month reflecting the best new games that are out, generally according to thread consensus but also according to the OPs tastes. And then yeah, it starts again next month. Going forward, thread starters can make the OP about whatever they want for the feature. StarCreator can do a music games thread for instance. It'll be fun.

Maybe some actual info about those games would be helpful too :P

The only info is that there is no info muhahaha

Arc Squadron is up on the US app store, on sale for .99 for the first 24 hours

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/arc-squadron/id512808632?ls=1&mt=8

I've played the first few missions so far and it's really, really good. Psyonix has nailed swipe controls for "starfox" games, it just feels so, so much better than using tilt controls. Literally can't go back to Sky Gamblers after this.

Yeah , this will be in the op tomorrow for sure.

Please add Clash of Heroes too :)

Check. We don't know when it's coming out either :P

If I could change the default browser on iOS for opening links and shit, I'd be right there. But how would Chrome fix there being separate threads?

Dude, you use GAF wrong. just keep your subbed threads page bookmarked, then you can see when all your threads have updated. It's my homepage!

Kinda like Banjo Nuts and Bolts? That sounds great if so. Thanks guys. Will grab this off iTunes. Hopefully will be playing this and several other recommendations on a Mini tomorrow.

If I can offer my 2c (or 1p ;) ), I actually thought it might be an idea to maybe leave the OP for the best stuff (apps and updates) that came out during the previous month (including screencaps or whatever... the full treatment) and a mention of games that are thought to be coming up during the coming weeks?

My theory was that if people want to be up-to-the-minute up to date, they can read through the thread but if they're happy to "only" get something that's good and only a few weeks old, then it'll be in the OP. Would keep it nice and simple as well and also allow time for games to settle, rather than having a whole bunch of people unknowingly buying a below-average game (a la Borderlands).

Or maybe strictly update the OP mid-month when there's a sale on a good, new game or something... otherwise just leave it for the next month's OP.

I dunno. Just some ideas :)

Hopefully my girl will be able to score us 4th gen iPads in the morning. She returning the ones we just bought. So if they so happen to not have them ill be without an iPad :(
