^^^ just create a wiki with protected pages that only specific users can edit. maybe use wikia.com? I think you can add polls so users can vote too.

The problem with this is that someone has to maintain that stuff, and nobody wants to after the new car smell has worn off, if you catch my power drift.

I always thought Robot Unicorn Attack is just a free flash game that's simple and gimmicky. Never gave it much of a try. Never thought of giving the app a chance...

But somehow... Yesterday... I did.

This shit is profoundly brilliant and entertaining. I opened my eyes. My eyes are opened.
Yeah I love killing time with this thing

Yes, well, I didn't say that I wanted to do the work! :/
Though I might, if I could get a large enough base of contributors interested in working with me to build up the DB. We could work with current goodies and work our way backwards in time.

Would be nice to have a decent Apps/Games DB. I wouldn't want to be in charge but wouldn't mind contributing. I usually have some spare time at work where I'm usually downloading and testing stuff on my iPhone so...couldn't hurt to help :P

I made a db a while back, never got much traction but I kept it up to date with the spreadsheet at least:
http://hippotrouble.com/iphonedb/games/
(also an apps section but no one ever used that side)

Main issue is that Zoho is kinda slow and updating price and crap is a pain that has to be done manually (I don't have some crazy AppShopper automatic iTunes scraping magic!). The iTunes and youtube links are automatically generated at least since they're just search queries.

Like the spreadsheet there's a point system to an extent: the usernames. Basic but it works if people use it for games they like.

Battle for Wesnoth is another tbs i left off, and Defender Chronicles is a fantasy themed Tower Defense with a heavy RPG/loot/grinding aspect to it. I would love to see a port of X-COM on iOS one day too.

It would be great if there was a database of the (better) games sorted by genres, catching up to all the games that have been released for someone just getting an iPhone or iPod Touch can be a daunting task.

What's wrong with the Gaf Google Doc for game suggestions?

Shining Force (Sega RPG)

I can't recommend this one enough. I don't know what it is about playing it on Iphone, but the game has me totally sucked in again. I think it's that I can just pause it at any point, and then come back to it later. It makes it easy for a quick on the go game. The background art for the battle sequences also still holds up rather well, and you can play it as stretched to full screen, or true, crisp resolution.

EDIT: I also think the nature of this game lends itself well to Iphone emulation, as opposed to other, more action oriented games, which I always have difficulty with when there isn't a tactile button response.

For starters, it seems if I sort it by genre it changes it for eveyone?

This one, linked earlier seems much nicer. You can actually filter by genre, so you only see single genres at a time, and it seems much nicer. Not slow at all. I wouldn't really worry about price updating, that's the most minor thing of all, I mean almost every app is under $20, most under $5, seems like a trivial thing to get caught up over keeping up to date.

I actually like it a lot! Maybe we should just use that for a list? I wonder if you can edit stuff though, like if someone listed the genre incorrectly, etc.

Been playing Pac-Chain for 2 days now- Namco's new (?) iPad puzzle/pacman hybrid. And I'm officially addicted.

So far, I'm really impressed - basically you get a grid of multicolored ghosts. Tapping 2 or more of the same color eliminates them, 4 or more triggers the bonus bar on the right where you can chain more hits before the bar runs out for big points.

Then there is the layer of pacman himself: you can control him at any time by swiping or dragging your finger. The idea is you use him to pick up fruit, pellets and power pellets. Power pellets turn ALL the ghosts blue (of course) and you can chomp away at the whole grid for a limited amount of time. Chaining power pellets nets you big points.

Presentation is really good. Music and graphics all have a nice retro feel - and the controls are great. I've read some complaining that pacman controls a little loose... But it's a very minor gripe IMO, and personally, I think he controls perfect.

One big complaint though... There doesn't seem to be any global/local leaderboards!?! This makes no sense whatsoever, since this game is ALL ABOUT score. I'm assuming Namco will patch this in... there seems to be an empty slot on the menu that would fit a leaderboard button nicely. :D

Right now my sessions last about 10 minutes, getting me to level 70+. lasting longer is going to be tough, but I'm getting better with every play.

All in all - great game and a must get for iPad owners.

hey, i like this a bunch actually! good recommendation.

it kind of reminds me of the DSiware katamari damacy block puzzler - it's got a similar arrange-blocks-for-character-to-eat/roll up vibe.

Everyone ready for Game Center today? I have high hopes for it :o

Are all the apps going to issue another round of updates to support it (kinda like how everything got updated for retina support), or does it work differently Getting free updates is fun, I hope all the existing OpenFeint / Plus+ games can just get updated to use Game Center!

It'll depend on each individual app/developer (it isn't an automatic feature - it has to be added to each game), but I imagine over the coming months you're going to start to see the vast majority of games supporting it... unless the community rejects it.

Speaking personally, my team is currently preparing to incorporate it into Wispin, but obviously we're watching the launch very closely to feel out everyone's reactions. We should start to have a grasp of just how much influence Game Center will have over our little segment of the industry pretty soon, I imagine!

sorry, the rule is that if you come up with the idea you have to do the work! :P

Street Fighter IV had better update: it would be pretty awesome to have head to head competition.

Some of the notable titles that should support Game Center today:

Apparently you'll be able to transfer you're existing OF scores/Achievements to GC too:

Perhaps most importantly, publisher Chillingo has confirmed that it will be possible to transfer your Angry Birds account to Game Center.

"There will be no loss of data e.g. leaderboards and past achievements," Chillingo's Joe Wee told us. "Customer experience is key. Game Center and Crystal will be fully integrated."

We also tried to find out whether Angry Birds would gain more features when the Game Center update is released

Mikael Hed, CEO of developer Rovio, was tight lipped but speculative.

"I cannot comment on Game Center right now, but it will mean total awesomeness," he said.

Open everywhere

We've also spoken to OpenFeint, the technology behind thousands of iPhone games such as Fieldrunners, Jet Car Stunts and Depict.

Its CEO Jason Citron said, "We're going to provide developers comprehensive tools to migrate their data if they want to switch."

This means that if developers want to transfer their existing achievements and high scores over to Game Center, they will be able to. Obviously not all will, but we'd expect most popular games to be supported in this way.

I guess that's good and bad. A fresh start might have been fun, sparking interest to compete for the high scores in older games again, like how Blizzard's always resetting their ladders a couple times a year.

Yeah Game Cente ris pretty much useless now with no games that work. ou can add me as friend though. Name is the same one as on here. :D

Edit: Shit that fanfare from my first friend request scared the shit out of me. :lol

Mine is also the same as my gaf name nihilisticmonk (without the space), would love to get some invites!

Edit:- BRING ON THE TRUMPETS! :lol

Sweee localised request message ^^.

Was afraid of that...
So you got a localised request message in Swedish (my language) ?
I thought it would use the language of the receiver.

Edit: Happy I managed to get my nickname before the Pope (The bishop of Rome, successor of St. Peter, chief of the whole Church, and the Vicar of Christ on earth) took it.

so, um, it seems that the friends list isn’t sortable by alphabetic priority, but by the order invites were accepted.

oh man, that’s gonna bug me down the line :lol here’s hoping for a GC 1.0.1 in the next couple weeks… (oh wait, they can’t do that since it’s part of the entire OS. oh man)

This may be slightly off-topic, but are there any poker sites compatible with the iPad? I know most use flash. My roommate wants an iPad but it's a dealbreaker if he can't play for money online.

Well if it has a sort of web backend to it (like the stores) they could push some updates to the UI that way.

I'm not sure there's any. I've heard of some people using a VNC/RDP connection to play through their computer. Clunky but I guess it should work fine.

i can't find gamecenter on my itouch. just sync'd this morning so how am i "your doing it wrong"?

how old is your touch? first generation?

game centre is part of OS 4.1 and works on iPod touch second gen (first model with the chromed ring around the screen) and later.

Jailbreaking the iDevice and installing Frash (it's free) from Cydia might do the trip. It's basically a homebrew port of Flash 10.x, IIRC.

Speaking of which, GC sounds cool. Hopefully by the time a 4.1 JB hits, most of my games will support it.

3G! Not sure what's going on really. Is there a way I can check from the device whether I'm up to date OS-wise? Thought I downloaded it but maybe not.
