...sure you don't have some physical condition you should have checked out? Either that or you gotta chill a bit when playing. A silicone case might work...but ultimately it'd still just be covering a hard device so maybe not, they only provide a thin layer of cushioning.

Yeah, I do have a physical condition as you say.
it's called Reynaud's syndrome, not really visible to the naked eye, but because of bad blood circulation my hands are oversensitive, especially when it's cold/hot.
I can't play weekly tennis' tourneys anymore but as far as gaming goes I don't have a problem with joypads, my g27 wheel and the NDS which is kinda sturdy starts bothering me only after one hour or so... Only the ipad gives me real problems with tilt controls games. I've seen a guy doing youtube reviews having some kind of rubber skin/shell covering the outside and maybe the behind of the pad, I wonder if someone here has something similar to suggest?

Really? What's wrong with them? I'm getting a Kindle this week so I'd be interested in hearing about it.

OK, so me saying Stanza sucks was a bit strong. Stanza is still a very capable ebook reader. However, it could have been so much more had Amazon left them alone. I've been reading ebooks since the early Palm Pilot days (spending hundreds in the process), and I follow ebook readers very closely. Mobipocket was purchased by Amazon and beyond a few token updates, was left to stagnate and basically die on the vine. The same thing has happened with Stanza, although the application was in better shape before Amazon got their grubby mitts on it. Stanza is a shadow of what it could have been, and the thing that upsets me the most is that it was well on its way to becoming something great. For what it is, it does a decent, albeit buggy, job; Stanza and iBooks generally do the trick.

All reports on the Kindle seem quite positive. The people that I know absolutely love them.

Damn, maybe it's cause the narrow squared off edges in particular? Any case that fattens it up or rounds it off a bit might help. There's a whole bunch of skin type options, some are hard plastic and others are silicone or some other rubbery type, many are cheap at least.

And if you want to add on grips or something to the case, maybe try sugru.

It's amazing how Apple has become a major player in the videogame market. I now believe they have a shot at becoming the overall leader in 3 years from now, with their disruptive business model and the low priced games. Quality and quantity are both drastically increasing.
agreed. lots of panties will be in a bunch soon enough. prices of games in general will go down, and digital is the future. apple is definitely the sleeping giant of gaming right now. let the haters hate, while my wallet gets drained by these filthy dirt cheap (quality) games.

Yep, you nailed it, it's exactly 'cause of those damn narrow edges, which is were I have my grip when holding the thing playing.
I'll definitely have a look at you link, thanks man, since I still haven't bought a case I was wondering if there was something good for both instances and rubber would be my choice.
I'll go check right now, what I did find before always seemed to be making the ipad too damn big, while I'd be more happy with just having a soft rubber skin wrappin up the edges.
The softer, the better honestly :)

Oh so true. Once Game Center gets voice chat it'll be all over. Plus if they let you use your iPhone/iPad as a controller for Apple TV...oh man.

I think the coolest thing about the App Store is it opens up avenues for small developers who would otherwise never get a game published. GAFers, in particular, make some of the most creative games I've ever played and many of them probably wouldn't have left their brains if it wasn't for Apple creating a level playing field with the App Store.

our puzzle game 180 is free once again this weekend thanks to DailyAppDream.com! (LINK)

Fans of Magical Drop and Tetris Attack will dig it. We were free for all of December and this is kind of a leftover from that (long story) so don't get used to it :) In other news I am working on "a new version" of the game, so keep an eye out. thanks for your support gaf, please review it on iTunes and tell your friends to grab the game if you enjoy it!

EDIT: A very big company expressed some serious interest in our game so watch for some exciting news in February :)
Review, I got this when it was free. I hate who ever in your company came up with this idea. You have wasted time I could be doing stuff. Seriously though. Great, addicting game. This will go on to iTunes.

180 is really cool, love the chaining system and flipping over coins.

Got Edge as well to say fuck you to Langdell, pretty neat. Wish the it controlled a bit better, as sometimes I'm not moving when or where I want to. But the music is nice though.

@captain n - wow never thought of the possibility of apple tv bridging the living room gap for iOS. sounds very possible! yes to voice chat and an improved online multiplayer experience with game center. the possibilities are endless at this point, and with all the dev support it's receiving, it could quite possibly end up being the standard for handheld/mobile online gaming.

@dream - sooo true. i absolutely LOVE the independent spirit of iOS gaming and can only hope and wish apple continues to foster the relationships of it's smaller devs. despite the hate for touch interface/lack of tactile controls, i have experienced some of the freshest game concepts and ideas ever in my over 23 years of gaming. touch really has opened an entire realm of gaming possibilities not "traditional" by any means, just different.

yea, i'm obviously a fan of iOS gaming... can't help it, especially having experienced the initial naysaying that went on here when apple played its gaming cards. iOS for life bitches! :P

Having fled to Verizon, I haven't followed this thread/iOS gaming for a long time so this is really helpful. Thanks for taking the time to help me out, I'll look into all of these. I've actually only heard of a few on here, and most of them (especially Cause of Death and Papa Sangre) seem very interesting.

Well, GAFers also predicted the spectacular failures of the DS, the Wii, and Kinect too. To me, one of the most reliable predictor of trends is seeing what the majority of GAFers think and betting against it.

So PC gaming is dead.

this thread has become my goto thread on NeoGaf. I am hooked. Good going Apple.

GameCenter has made a HUUUUUUGE difference. I am loving it

i like iOS, but to say this is an independent expression of anything makes me think you either don't understand spirit or independent. the game store is the biggest collection of warmed over cash-ins that would fail out of the early 90 shareware scene.

there's two reactions to this 1) people have noststaila for that style of game and embrace the 2 hour fun nature of iOS gaming and forgot that shareware was to get you to buy something like MOO or capitalism.
2. people are too young to remember when this happened the first time around and play these games for less than 2 hours.

I didn't think Too Human sold 12 million copies in 2 months.

Me too, and once they start adding voice chat to Game Center, I think it will seriously impact the time I spend on consoles.

Anyone have opinion on Dungeon Hunter 2 vs the original? I'm maybe half way through the HD version of the first one but the 2nd looks like it may have pretty good improvements to load times or save points. Is it worth finishing the first one or maybe just jump right to #2?
The sequel is much better than the first one. Load times are a lot faster, the environments are more varied, and the classes are pretty distinctive from each other. I'd finish the first one first, just cause you won't want to go back to it after playing the second one.

I feel like there should be some really beautiful and chill arty game I should be able to fire up, preferably with the option of playing my own iPod music to it... Osmos got boring fast, Ozone could be a bit more varied and allow iPod music, Zen Bound has nearly all the necessary ingredients but the gameplay is very unengaging to me...

I just discovered Eliss though, that's quite an amazing game and comes close to the type of experience I'm looking for.
Have you already played Kometen? It's not so much of a game, but more like interactive art, though. It's kind of fun to mess around with and I think the game is gorgeous looking. You basically travel around the map and discover planets with some art on them while eating objects that let you get speed boosts to travel faster. Universal and 99c too!

Kometen is exactly the type of thing I mean, indeed, though it just happens to not have the kind of art style I like (even though it's beautifully executed) and just feels like so much more variation could have been added with this concept. But maybe I didn't stick with it long enough... In fact, I will redownload it.

I just have a quick question for everyone on here. What's your favorute control style for iOS.

I am moremexcited for Dead Space iOS than Dead Space 2 and i'll tell you why. The reason is because this really is one of the first games that'll be like a complete console game on iOS. Don't get me wrong, I love what iOS does right and that is smalll bitesized games, but I wanna see if it can get this right. The gameplay videos on youtube look pretty flippin' sweet.

me do not understand game :(

I managed to finish it. It's extremely short and not very fun, though I dig the art style.

In the first level you have to...

Swipe down on the character to get it to fly at a constant level. Then swipe forward to advance

for platform/double stick style games i prefer when devs stick to regions of the touch screen rather than put up on screen d-pads. tap, swipe, and draw games work exceptionally well and are probably my preferred input methods.

Need help GAF.

Reformatted my PC, reinstalled iTunes, and everything, but lost all my apps that were downloaded on my PC. How do I transfer my purchases from my iPhone (the apps already on it) to my computer? I only get the option to transfer purchases to iPhone (which means replace everything on my iPhone with my empty Apps library on my PC, which I don't want).

What do I do? :(

Sorry, what do you mean by "stick to regions of the touch screen"? I don't think I've played any dualstick games like that but I want to find out. I quite like the on-screen dualstick controls in games like Minigore though.

Just picked up Silverfish, which is on sale this weekend for $0.99, it's a manic arcade style game. Just got updated with a new mode, it seems a lot like a twin stick shooter, especially from the looks, but you can only move up/down/left/right, with swipe or on screen d-pad. Haven't messed with the d-pad yet. You move around similar to a game like Snake, but the enemies come at you from any direction, and each mode has it's own means of destroying them. Bombs show up regularly and have a radius they explode in, enemies then drop little point/powerup items that allow are different per mode so far.

Anyway, no need to go into a whole review. I dig it, and I am sure people at GAF would too, bug I haven't seen a post about it this weekend since it went on sale. Been reviewed quite well if that makes a difference to anyone.

As far as I know that's the only option you'll get. New installation of OSX/Windows means a "new computer" to iTunes. Either hope you have a backup somewhere, or download them manually again. Luckily, with apps, you can download them as many times as you want on an authorized computer. iTunes/Apple won't allow you to re-download any purchased music without an e-mail and good reason like if you had sent your computer to Apple to get it fixed but forgot to make a backup (even though they tell you to make a backup).

Lesson learned my friend. Unless someone here knows some way to circumvent that messages and sync your phone to the computer instead of computer to the phone? I've yet to read any thing like that though, but wouldn't be surprised to find out there is a way.

As beautiful as Kometen is, there isn't much variation at all. Sticking around longer won't glean you any surprises. All aspects of gameplay are discovered on your first trip to one of the planets. It's enjoyable in a sort of zen-like way, but as far as gameplay is concerned it's a bit on the boring side. However, there is a little treat if you complete it. I won't spoil it though :p.

Have you tried that XBLA ported iPhone game....uh...Soul? It doesn't have diverse gameplay either and can be a bit frustrating, but it got a lot of praise for the games as art crowd.

Oh wow, didn't know about the bolded, I though it was Steam-esque in the sense that you could download music anywhere, as many times as you want. Damn, I don't like the sound of that at all.

Thanks for the reply, I'll just go through and download every app again, I don't keep many on in the first place at a time, but had a few I downloaded from promotions and whatnot.

Art games might get more respect if they didn't actually suck as games. Or as art.

I thought there was some way to sync apps back to a pc, once it was paired. Like it detects that an app is on the iPhone and offers to sync it over to the PC.

For example, if I delete an app on my mac that is installed on my iphone, on the next sync it detects there's something ont he iPhone that's not on the computer and asks to bring it back.

Of course, that's when a link is already established between the device and computer. Not sure when you have a new computer, when it asks to sync whether it will give that option or not...

I discovered this recently and it made me wonder... why would ANYONE EVER buy music from iTunes?

Speaking of backing up I am just doing my monthly app backup to external HDD, 6 gigs this time, in total it's a lot more, quite amazing how much space is taken up by all these apps.

This gives me a valid reason to go out and buy a blu-ray burner, i'd prefer to bung all these apps onto a blu-ray cd then use up more HDD space, only have a 260gb external :P

I lost about 25 songs 2 years back because of this rule, annoying as shit but eh, least my music only game to about £8 total as it was some cheap dance music and a few single tunes.

Hm? EA, Gameloft and others are doing console-like games for iPhone/iPad for years.

I really like when games do touch anywhere control schemes. Other than that Gameloft always nails it while others still can't get it right (hint:copy Gameloft).

It's convenient.

My question is why people always have data and never back up.

Also, when did digital download mean you can always get that content at anytime? I'm not saying who's right or wrong or anything, but I'm just saying it's an assumption that people seem to make.

THIS.

Unlike with movies you get off iTunes, you can burn iTunes music to a CD. That way A) you have a backup of the file that B) you can re-rip to your computer if need be.

Now if only there was a way to do this with movies/tv shows bought from iTunes. That's what I don't get people buying. Renting, sure, but buying movies off iTunes that you don't have a physical copy of, that you can only play on your computer or iDevice, that you have no backup of, that has less to no extras VS a similarly priced physical copy (which can then be ripped to your computer!) Why? I mean I'm guilty of it. I have Seasons 1 & 2 of Adventure Time and Regular Show on my iPad. But then, I plan to buy those on DVD anyway.

Well I backed up everything worth backing up, music and movies and games and whatnot. But I thought iTunes was ahead of the class with this stuff as people hail it like that. I went into my purchase history and no real links to stuff I previously downloaded exists. Not to forget that stuff you already purchased comes up as $#.## instead of "download again" if you've already purchased it.

The assumption is valid. Someone not as tech savvy would expect as such, and question the point of having an account with tracked purchases if your restricted to a machine that will inevitably get replaced in the future by a better machine. I know the actual "download anywhere, anytime" feature of DD services isn't that widespread, but the places where that is the place get praised, and I was almost 100% certain that this would be the case with Apple. Apparently not.

The only things I've got off iTunes are apps, so I'm kind of indifferent beyond that.

I keep a backup at all times but would still never buy something from iTunes. Being able to re-download is standard at this point (at least with games, see Steam/GOG etc) and I won't support a service that purposefully prevents it. It's even worse with music because the file sizes are orders of magnitude smaller than something like games or movies.

do any of the music services allow you to redownload? I don't believe Amazon does either

I buy music I don't feel really deeply about on iTunes, such as poppy stuff. I buy CDs for the stuff that really pushes my buttons.

I also use Time Machine, so losing the data is less likely than if I just kept it on one machine, and in the unlikely event my Time Machine back-ups ever fail I will be knocking down Apple's door to be allowed to download my purchases again.

The music files, players, filers, and back-up system are all Apple. One of the few but really compelling arguments for a unified gadget platform is there's nobody else they can blame if stuff goes wrong with my iTunes purchases.

Burning to cd and re-ripping? No thanks. I'll just copy the files onto a disc or something. And you can do that with movies, just not play em on anything else.

I understand your point, but as pointed out, what you consider standard for one media is not necessarily true for other media. I don't think it,s worse that songs can,t be redownloaded anise they're small - I,m much more happy backing up songs, than gb worth of game, if it came to that.

I just don't think it's an issue, since backups should be maintained regardless. There are plenty of things to complain a bout iguana for, but redownloading isn't a big one for me. Rest assured, though, if my backups fail, I will be bugging apple for redownloaded :p

So I just got a $50 iTunes gift card. Any favourite app suggestions? I'm not sure what to get. I've just bought infinity blade. I own a bunch of free apps and cheap apps. Any good games that are a little more pricey? Like Nazi Zombies, Sonic 4 or SFIV. Any good?

SFIV is really good if you can adapt yourself to the control set on iPod or iPhone. Don't get Sonic 4. It's a terrible, terrible game. I'd go on and rant about it, but you get the picture.

Yeah SFIV is quality.

If you like Crossword puzzles go ahead and splurge and get Crosswords by Stand Alone, Inc. Awesome, awesome crosswords app. $10 and totally worth it.

If you like Excitebike type stuff, get Mad Skills Motocross.
