this is probably a really annoying request but can anyone recommend some good free games for the iphone. i have like Ninjump and Megajump which seem pretty rad but i don't know what else is worth checking out. thanks

You should get Angry Birds and maybe Flight Control.

Guys, could we possibly stop being dicks to people asking for recommendations? Congrats, you spend more time on GAF then them and/or got your iOS device years ago. Some people are new to both, and we don't need to act like stereotypical elitist geeks every time somebody asks a common question.

Besides, the last couple pages were dominated by TinyWings copycat debates with a small sprinkling of actual game talk. It's a fair question to ask at this point.

Relax, don't freak out.

Perhaps someone could make a "Essentials" post, send it to duckroll and he can put it in the OP.

So, Infinity Blade fans, what's the secret to get the best weapons/armor. Do you sell all of your mastered items to afford the big guns? Grind forever?

I've almost mastered everything but some of the stuff that's like 150-200K...not sure I want to grind to get that. Are there any downsides to selling your mastered items?

So can anyone here vouch for Mublip? Forcing myself through Rhythm Spirit, want something after. Thinking Mublip or Rock Band Reloaded. Yes/no?

So after getting a ios device a couple weeks ago I've been lurking this thread for games. Now I have spent way more than I probably should have or expected to. So thanks guys for that. Battleheart is pretty awesome, why do the igames not get OT's for the most part? Something like that or, from what I understand, Dead Space could get more people interested in phone gaming.

That's a good question. There are a lot of games and a lot of people playing different stuff, but an OT for stuff like Tiny Wings or Infinity Blade would be cool. It would also help keep things cleaner. The system we have works pretty well now I suppose. It's just how it is. It was decided long ago.

Fuck. I'm resisting the urge to play it, but I bought it. I'll play it soon.

Has anyone played Save Toshi? It's a bit more challenging later on, and more addicting than I originally thought.
I got it when it was free a while ago. It's pretty fun, but I eventually resorted to random guesses because the difficulty ramped up so quickly. I kept going though because Toshi's voice is the most hilarious thing ever.

MuBlip is pretty awesome, although is different than the usual bemani game, there's as much music game in it as there's "Simon says".
But the touch interface is so well done and inventive, I think that if you love music games you owe it to yourself to at least try it; it's not for everyone but I applaud the direction they've taken with the game and the fact they've dared to be different.

Is Jubeat Plus on the US App Store? It pops up in the autocomplete, but it doesn't seem to be available...
Nah, Japanese appstore only, but making a Japanese itunes account is pretty easy. It's totally worth it since the game is free with 3 songs.

I think there are some pretty major problems with the control but I agree it is a great game.

To those asking for essential Recommendations...I have spent a ton of time with:

Plants V Zombies
GameDev Story
Carcassone
Words With Friends
Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit

These choices aren't original but there is a reason they are so popular.

That sounds amazing. I always wave DDR S to fall back on so something that successfully mixes things up is welcomed. Thanks.

Anyone here playing Dungeon Raid?

Can you beat my 30k score on Normal?

Let me know and I might have something for you.

Fuck, I can't even break 2000! Absolutely love this game though.

I'd love to hear some impressions on Hot Springs Story.
Took one for the team and dove in, seems a little different than Game Dev Story. Seems like a mix between Diner Dash and Game Dev Story.

So far, you start out with a basic hot springs resort and you build rooms/amenities to attract guests and increase your resort's popularity. Adding trees and other flora around the spa rooms increases specific attributes which contribute to the guests' star rating, which adds to your popularity. You can also do advertisements and attract specific types of clientele.

Your ipad list is missing Jubeat Plus.
this is probably a dumb question, but how easy is it to get stuff from the JP store, and is it coming to the US by any chance?

Are the DDR games any good? I prefer jp pop music for this kind of thing than american music.

I'm playing it right now. Too early to say anything, but initially it doesn't seem as intriguing as Game Dev Story because well... you're going from managing a game development company to managing a hot spring resort. I haven't played many simulation type games aside from GDS, but this game sort of reminds me of Theme Park, although that game was inherently more exciting since you were building a park with rides and stuff.

I'm liking Hot Springs Story more than Dev so far due to the building aspect. It is very Theme Park and that sort. Thankfully it's pretty much nothing like Diner Dash.

I agree, I do enjoy the building aspect of it, and on a related note, I would love for Theme Park to be ported, I loved that game so much when I was younger.

I'm playing Infinity Blade on an iPod Touch and loving it, but I cant find a comfortable, non-awkward way to position my hands to play. Really loving it, but the dodge buttons are so damn small--i'm constantly getting hit because I press just a tad too high on the edges of the screen.

I offered everyone on the 8-4 podcast $100 prize if someone can beat my score by the end of March. Obviously, that's only for the first to beat my score and not every single person. :P

For GAF, I will think of another prize!

Dungeon Raid is the perfect iPhone game, I say.

How do you rotate rooms as you're placing them? I missed that part of the tutorial and it's not in the help.

As far as I know, you can only rotate specific rooms; it gives you the option while you're building in the bottom left.

I cannot for the life of me do the 'get to island 4 without using [up arrow]'

is there some trick/advice you guys can recommend to do it? i can do the 34s in fever mode no problem.

Zeth said:
I just hit 170k but I cant do 34s fever OR the no perfect slides.. Ugh.
What I did for the no perfect slides is that I tried to hug each hill and gain as little air as possible off a jump. So I would essentially try to ride along the ground without jumping. I was able to make it to the needed island even though I was traveling slower.

For the 34s fever it really helps if you can fever the entire first island then on the down slope at the end of the first island don't hold down and let the bird travel as slow as possible. Then get a perfect slide right as you land on the 2nd island. You'll still have to travel for a while after that but it gives you a good start.

I have no idea what this Thief Lupin game is but it's free right now and it looks interesting.

Man, I can't get any farther on Tiny Wings. Today I hit 217,000 but now I can't beat that score again. Although today I had a game where I was in fever mode for 50 seconds, so that was cool.

Not a dumb question, but also not at all difficult. Just create a Japanese account by following the alternative method in this page:

http://nihongoperapera.com/itunes/japan/registration-guide-no-cc.html

Heck, you can just use the Jubeat Plus itunes page to start.

http://itunes.apple.com/jp/app/jubeat-plus/id395192484?mt=8

Just don't enter a gift card code if you don't have one.

Battle for Wesnoth is 0.99, so I bought it. Apparently there is hundreds of hours in content. Originally it is a PC game, and from the little I played it seems well made.

What?! I got this and just got massively frustrated because of the controls... Always end up telling the healer to walk past a target instead of heal it because the area to touch them is so small. Also my characters often end up stood on top of each other making it super hard to select them... if they just had a collision area around them, it would be touch control done right.

ahahaha, Hot Spring Story is amazing.

That said, I live in an onsen town and visit onsen on a weekly basis so my judgement may be clouded. =)

Has anybody here tried out Aleste? All I have to go by is the guy who has reviewed it on the site, but there's only one review.

I played GG Aleste on the Game Gear as a kid and loved that. GG was a sequel/ successor though I think, and looks much more exciting in comparison.

It's a vertical-scrolling space shooter, you control both flight and attack (I think). Quite pricey though for something that's relatively underexposed.

That's a problem I would like to have! I bumped my score up to around 160k last night bit I'm still falling short of the all important 175 for the achievement. Time to try again soon.

Need a new game though, what's the buzz for this week?

In the meantime I'm thinking of getting Eliss because I keep hearing it's good. However the screens/description aren't really doing it for me. Can someone sell me on it? Why is the game good?

Personally I just used the Legion helm (Gold+++) and ground the gold needed for the blade in a few bloodlines while levelling as normal. Had the blade at bloodline 12 I think. Mastered all items there are at 18, level 45.
