Makes me wish for a company to do a Battlestar Galactica game in the same way like Star Battalion and Galaxy on Fire 2.

I have yet to pick up Star Battalion, but I am enjoying Galaxy on Fire 2 and I keep thinking I wish there was a good BSG game. The maneuverability of those ships would make for a fun combat game.

The combat in Star Battalion is fierce, fast and awesome. The game even has an online co-op game.

Elaborate?

I was under the impression that iPhone apps were unable to access the music library (hence the lack of visualisers, audiosurf style games etc). Are you just listening to Idioteque and playing Space Invaders or is there some magical, musical monkeyshines going on?
SI:IG has had a music option for a while now, but it (last I tried) only generates based on the metadata, i.e. the artist name, song name, album, etc. Until 4.0 or 4.1 it wasn't allowed to access the audio data, I don't know if they updated for that yet...I'm guessing they haven't since it would've been a big deal enough to mention into the update notes.

Somehow the programmer managed to do some trickery to read the MP3 files on the phone to generate the levels based on the tunes, I think it even worked on iOS 3. He says it's a closely guarded secret though, but it works a charm and it brilliant for unlocking the higher bonus levels. There's a button on the main screen that says music, click it and choose your tune and get shooting.
I haven't heard about this though. Did he figure out how the text metadata -> level generation worked and go from there?

If anyone's looking for a new app, I recommend:

Tilt to Live - Fun game with lotsss to do (retina and game center w/ achievements)
iTrials - Great bike game like the one on xbox live

And the usual..

Mirrors Edge
Fruit Ninja
GWars: Touch
Flight Control
Monster Dash
Slice it
Cut the Rope

Annndd.. I just downloaded Gangstar 2 after a lot of thinking and I'm enjoying it. Much much better than the first installment and the closest thing to GTA/Saints Row on the iDevices.

Action Heroes 9-1 & Ghosts 'n Zombies are free today. They look _kinda_ promising. I'm also trying out Puzzled Keiki, Bunz Fighter and Farm it!.

Getting 845 in Fruit Ninja Arcade mode in the most amazing 60 seconds ever? Fuck yes.

Being connected to dead wifi at the time and the score not being reported to Game Center and not seeing any way to have it be upload, fuuuuuuck noooooooooooo.

I'm impressed with Modern Combat 2. Sure, it's a poor man's Modern Warfare, but it's well made. Gameloft is quickly improving it's games. Can't wait to see NOVA2 and Dungeon Hunter 2.

I don't know why they don't try something original though. All of their games are blatant ripoffs.
Not impressed. Graphics are worse than NOVA on the iPad, and the game just feels like a copy from start to finish.

It's like... Gameloft games lack any kind of originality. They're like "B-Movies" to me, and they're growing old fast.

Why don't they use the massive amount of money that they're getting to make something original? Shouldn't be that hard huh?

Disagree on the graphics looking worse than NOVA. But the game does feel like a cheap copy, like most of their games.

Elaborate please. :D

Someone said Death Worm has more content, any truth to that?

Not sure about death worm, but I really detest worms in general so super mega worm 8-bit look makes it better for me where as death worm looks pretty gross.

edit: Also wanted to add it is pretty fun to say.

Anyone playing Shining Core? (I know it's 1$ right now but still looking for opinions before I buy. :lol )

Am a huge Puzzle Quest 1 fan. (I didn't get into PQ2 that much, though)

I'm tempted to get Galaxy on Fire 2 but, first...

What is the best FreeLancer - Elite clone? There is something really big (not some dozen of planets) and with a real freedom to pirate, bounty, trade, etc?

I wonder if JuBeat will ever hit the US App Store. I've always wanted to play it...

ditto. more Bemani is always appreciated

edit: how the hell does DDR S+ have 9 versions of Paranoia, but no 321 Stars, Cartoon Heroes, or Twinbee =(

Can anyone tell me how Galaxy on Fire 2 and Star Battalion compare? I'm sort of tempted to pick up one of them, but I'm not sure which. They both sort of look the same to me.

Well both games are very similar and very different. Galaxy on fire 2 is sort of a space shooter sim/RPG, that requires you to upgrade your ship or buy a new one, hire wingmen, go on side missions to earn money or blueprints to build your own weapon or device. You can visit many galaxies and spacestations. The dogfights are pretty intense especially if you have a crappy ship then those fights will be very hard. The game is very leveled based in the types of ships, weapons, shields, armor that you obtain

Star Battalion is an arcade space shooter like star fox for the SNES. You pilot the ships that are given to you for the level however later levels you can choose one of 3 ships, the whole experience is very linear in that you cannot pick and choose your missions and there are no side missions either. The dog fights are intense as the enemy has lock on missiles so you will be swiping the iPhone to do maneuvers.

Both games have terrible stories but great gameplay. Oh and both games have voice acting which isn't all that great.

I like both games for different reasons. Star battalion for the intense dog fights and epic battles in space (like star wars or battlestar galactica) and galaxy on fire 2 for the whole exploration, upgrade system. I really wished Mass Effect had the same space exploration as galaxy on fire. Mass effect 2 made is possible to fly the ship but it felt like such a 2-D crappy mobile phone type of experience however galaxy on fire 2 space exploration felt like it should be on a console than a phone.

Thanks, man. I grabbed Galaxy on Fire 2, but you've made both sound fantastic. I'll no doubt grab Star Battalion at some later point.

I should let you know Star Battalion is a short game compared to Galaxy on fire 2, but both games are great.

When I first got Reckless Racing I was immediately turned off by it's framerate and gave up on it. I just gave it a second chance I must say it seems to be one of the most polished and visually impressive games out atm. The gameplay is really well balanced and a lot of fun, controls also seem to work well for me.

The framerate should still be double for this type of game where it's all about control and getting a good direct feel for the physics, but it's good fun nonetheless.

:lol

All you had to do was press the home button + power and it would've taken a screen shot.

I'm staggered by just how good Galaxy on Fire 2 looks. The detail is amazing.

Yeah i feel the same way, the game feels like it should be on a console.

Meh at Samurai II. Game sure is pretty, but way too shallow and repetitive.

Anyone tried Demon Hunter?

Haven't tried demon hunter, but i agree with samurai 2, it is very very pretty, but damn i wish the combat was better.

Anyone playing "Today I Die Again"?
I played a fair bit yesterday, but got to a part which I think was impossible to get past, so maybe there was a bug?
Anyway, an update came out today which claims to fix minor issues, but not sure if it fixes that one yet.

What rpgs should I purchase? How long is Chaos Rings?

20+ hours to get 108% or whatever 100% is. It's quite fun once you get to your third playthrough and beyond. I wasn't too enamored by it the first time through, but it does get better after a bit, definitely recommend it for a simple RPG.

Other suggestions (nothing new here): Crimson Gem Saga, Final Fantasy I/II, Shining Force, Rimelands: Hammer of Thor, Undercroft, possibly The Quest, haven't tried it, so far it's one person recommending it, and another hating it. If you want to break in to more of a sRPG, you also have Song Summoner.

There is a massive update out for StarDunk; it introduces SP points as a means to unlock balls and a new theme. The scoring was also retooled so as to yield higher scores.

Oh, and they removed the ridiculously intrusive Ads after every match.
