Damn... Ive already authorized on 4 of my computers. Can one computer be authorized by multiple accounts?
Yeah...if your friend is fine with giving you his iTunes account login and password.

Another way might be to have your friend login with his/her account on the device, download whatever apps they own, then sign out. The apps should work but won't sync to your computer...I think. I've done the first part on Apple Store devices befor to play Espgaluda (signed in, downloaded, signed out), but I'm not sure on the syncing part.

Any impressions on the Spider-Man game that was just released?

I picked it up last night and gave it a spin on the iPad. It's surprisingly pretty good, and I say that as somebody who doesn't really dig on the other Gameloft clones. Usually, Gameloft can get the general shape of a game right but completely falls flat on things like level design and how different mechanics/systems work together. Zombie Infection is a prime example of them getting the look right of Resident Evil 4, but dropping the ball with dull level designs. Spider-man: Total Mayhem had some of those problems, mostly poorly thought-out levels that do nothing but funnel you through some uninteresting settings to the boss (to be fair I only finished the first level). Then again the game is an arcade brawler and it knows how to brawl. The combat engine is smooth and fluid, and reminds me of a more stripped down version of the one in Arkham Asylum with some light leveling up elements.

It's honestly one of the best games on the iPhone. It's incredible. The combat reminds me so much of Arkham Asylum. So smooth

I'd really like to find the best solitaire/spider solitaire for an 8GB ipod touch. I'd prefer a free ad-free version, but if there's a really good one that someone can vouch for I'd be happy to pay something.

Another vote for Sol Free. It was probably the first app I ever downloaded and remains my most played, by far.

I wish there were some Q entertainment games like Lumines for the ipad.

It doesn't say it has Spider Solitaire, which has been my fix lately. But thanks for the suggestion! Any solitaire is beautiful when you're unable to play anything else.

it has Spiderette, which i guess might be the same, i usually just play solitaire.

mine too. :D

I buckled and ordered an 8 GB off Amazon tonight. Really excited; this is actually going to be my primary handheld gaming device. After watching the demo of Epic Citadel on the Apple keynote it's safe to say one of the most impressive things I've seen on handheld. Can't wait. I also can't wait to see what id and Carmack have up their sleeves.

Makes me mad that 8GB is still their entry level touch...I expected 16 this time since 8GB seems more like the realm of the Nano by now. :(

This is an interesting statement. I wonder what the break-up is between models. I know I wasn't going to pay more than what I did for the new touch, I don't see the reason of having more space considering I'm always changing music around anyway. A 16GB model may be to high a price implementation to make it the smallest, cheapest model?

Probably not a huge price difference between 8-16GB. It's probably just all business to try to nudge people to the mid level one...probably people like mattiewheels that sees 8GB as too small. Get those guys to buy the $299 model instead of possibly being satisfied with a $229 16GB. If the margins are relatively thin on the low end (cause it's a new model instead of old model this time) it'll be more important to push people to the more expensive models too.

edit-not sure if it's been mentioned, but for anyone on the fence about Dodonpachi the lite version came out a few days back.

Yeah, it's all kind of a mind game. They know I want a cheap alternative, but that I probably can't live with 8gb in the long run, so the next one ends up as my only real option. 16gb is definitely doable for that price, but that would be trouble for their 32gb model, I guess.

Sigma and Fuzzle appear to be nice looking puzzle games and they are free today.

Stair Dismount is also free.

Sigma is really, really fun. I was going to buy it earlier, but I got shibuya instead. Don't regret it obviously since they're both great puzzle games.

I'm pretty surprised with how capable a gaming device the iPhone is since getting a 4.

It's the only thing I play at the moment, and i'm fine with that.

I picked up this one a while back, it was said to be the best, and have found it very good for what it does (just Spider). I don't care for leaderboards or anything though, not sure how that'd work anyway. There's a free version too, so I guess you could try that first, but for $1, I didn't care enough either way, just wanted no ads in the game!

I also have the Sol (paid though), but I find the fact that it doesn't go horizontal to be a bit annoying - while Spider does of course.

Personally I use the jailbreak capabilities to "demo" games before buying them, even if they're only a dollar! Does anyone here do the same thing?

I wish I checked out Robot Unicorn Attack before buying it cheap. That game sucks and looks crappy on an iPhone 4!

This shit isn't bannable?

One would hope so, same with "sharing your entire/partial friends collection of games" by syncing them to your device... but I'm not going to press the topic, just support any calls for it.

I agree. Besmirching the name of Robot Unicorn Attack should earn a lifetime ban. Effing philistines.
Well aren't you a Georgia peach.

Sorry, been saving that one for awhile.

It would appear Apple has brought Game Center out of developer sandbox mode in prep for 4.1's public release and one can now register ones apple id + unique username for use on the service. :)

You'd need to be running 4.1 already to do so tho obviously.

This might be slightly off-topic but does Amazon usually get their stock of these on street date? What are peoples' experiences with that?

AppShopper released a new app (by the same name). Everybody, do yourself a favor and download it right now. It sports a fricken awesome icon, and of course: you add games to your wishlist and watch their prices closely.

I never downloaded any "free-apps watchers" apps because most of them are ugly or unresponsive. This one is perfect IMO.

Yeah, I was able to register last Friday.

Apple issued a GameCenter reset today though from what I've seen and read.
I opened it after your post and my user ID is still the same.

edit
Aha had to click Friends to get the app to restart the application process. Thanks.

Pizza Boy looks like a pretty sweet platformer

Just got my iPhone 4 couple days ago and was wondering if there's any decent strategy and RPG apps? Can't seem to find any. So far picked up Angry Birds, Tumbledrop, Space Miner (Lite for now), and all of the free games from today. Also, Haypi Kingdom.. figured I'd give the MMO thing a try.

Edit: Opened Haypi Kingdom. Uninstalled Haypi Kingdom.

Civilization Revolution is on the thing, so that's pretty much the gold standard of strategy gaming.

It doesn't seem to have push price alerts for the watch list though, kinda killed my excitement for it.

Any clue if you can sign into another iTunes account and register another name? Like is it tied to the device at all or is it like the store where you can sign in and out at will?

I always thought Robot Unicorn Attack is just a free flash game that's simple and gimmicky. Never gave it much of a try. Never thought of giving the app a chance...

But somehow... Yesterday... I did.

This shit is profoundly brilliant and entertaining. I opened my eyes. My eyes are opened.

Helsing's Fire gets pretty hard later on, if you like angry birds style strategy. More traditional choices would be:

Chaos Rings (FF RPG)
Across Age (Zelda-ish adventure/rpg clone)
Zenonia I/II (see above)
Crimson Gem Saga (PSP RPG)
Final Fantasy I/II (PSP RPGs)
Shining Force (Sega RPG)
Rimelands: Hammer of Thor (turn-based RPG)
Song Summoner Encore (FF:Tactics-like sRPG by Square)
Final Fantasy Tactics (coming out in a week)
Mecho Wars (Mech sRPG)
Civ Revolutions (Civ game)
War of Eustrath (sRPG)
Sim City Deluxe (Sim City game)
Palm Heroes (HoM&M clone - sRPG)

There's probably a bunch more I'm leaving out, but that should get you started!

Thanks for the suggestions. Minsc just broke my bank account :( Go for the wallet Boo!

Battle for Wesnoth is another tbs i left off, and Defender Chronicles is a fantasy themed Tower Defense with a heavy RPG/loot/grinding aspect to it. I would love to see a port of X-COM on iOS one day too.

It would be great if there was a database of the (better) games sorted by genres, catching up to all the games that have been released for someone just getting an iPhone or iPod Touch can be a daunting task.

I can also recommend Crystal War, I've played nothing but this for the past week or so. It's a bit like a side on warcraft where you send out miners and then buy units. It's not massively hard, you can brute force a lot of levels by spamming lower level units, but I really enjoy it and it's got a reasonable nice campaign mode where you face different units and have to make some decisions on which units to take. There's a lite version as well if you want to see what it's like, and it's only 59p.

Looks loads better than the screen below on the iphone 4 as well

I know that there is an online spreadsheet that some GAFfers maintain, but its kind of crap and barebones. Someone should whip up an expandable database of iDevice apps and games that includes price, release date, primary and secondary genre fields, developer, publisher, free/lite availability, universality, hardware features (gyro, tilt, location, push, retina, etc.), store links, app version, free/paid DLC availability, and a +/- point system that aggregates the overall GAF opinion for each app/game.

Adding or subtracting a point would require a valid GAF account in good standing (not banned, juniored, or even a true junior) and each user would only be able to vote a single app once. Perhaps votes could also be submitted with a short comment up to 160 or so characters. Comments could later be edited, but the initial vote would be locked unless the app sees a significant update. The comment would automatically log the newest version of the app available, for posterity.

There would have to be a core team of developers with full db access rights, but most users would be limited to just votes and comments. The UI would show the total point value of the app being looked up, and perhaps the 10 most recent user comments, with a link to see the expanded vote tally breakdown, complete with the matched individual comments.

The GAF moderation team has always been pretty reliable in sniffing out the shills, and the very nature of creating an account on GAF should keep the vote swarming and abuse that usually doom these systems down to a minimum.

Actually, the more I think of this... It'd be a ridiculous amount of work.
Still, it could be an amazing idea, and even expandable to other services such as PSN, XBLA, Wii/DSiWare, Android, etc.

Edit - the load could be lightened a bit by allowing certain trusted community power users limited db write access in order to populate new games/apps, pending verification by a member of the dev team. Other features could include links to a GAF OT for said game/app, or a link to the general game/app OT if a specific original thread hasn't been made yet.
