I've had Carcassonne for a while without really playing it. Kind of interested in trying some asynchronous games, but don't want to get super distracted. Can I join in some Gaf games in a non-committal, flaky kinda way?
all carc games are noncommittal! some take two days some take two weeks that's the beauty of carc. the fact that a turn is so easy though and there really is very little analysis paralysis makes most games flow pretty well

Puzzle Quest 1/2 would be the obvious choice (2 has horrible loading times which hopefully will be fixed in a patch, and 1 just sucks on the iPod/Phone), Heroes of Kalevala is a great Match 3 with a mini-building game to it.
Thanks for this. Will check out Valevala, and also found Call For Atlantis when I was reading Valevala's reviews.

As for Puzzle Quest, it's reputation/reviews has scared me off. I have a iPod 2g, but if the games just suck for now, I'm not gonna bother.

Gun Bros (free) is amazing!

mzl.dtyfykos.320x480-75.jpg

Retina, Game Center, "Asynchronous Coop" (as I like to call it) of your Bros.. the best dual-stick shooter around, in my opinion.

If you wish to join the Bro-fest.. my Game Center ID is "jtp4455".

Edit: Holy crap Mejilan, your Bro is so badass. He will hardly let me kill anyone.. he gets to them first!

Just got an iphone 4! yay
Give me tips on some must-have games, I am totally blank here so it does not matter if they are old, aslong as they are good. ;D

I just recently got my ipod touch 4 and I think my most played game is Cut the rope (got 3 stars on every level, including the Christmas pack)
Game Dev Story is also incredibly fun and addictive although now that I've made my own console I've not been playing it as much
I've also been using the Free app a day app to find daily free games and the appvent calender for free stuff too.

Other games I've been enjoying
Crash Bandicoot Nitro kart 2 (was like 59p so I bought it and it's really good imo)
Infinity Blade (gorgeous game and runs mostly find on the ipod 4. good for short gaming sessions)
Rage HD (nice on rails shooting gallery)
Rayman 2 (It was free when I got it. Port of the N64/PS1 game. pretty good)
Assault Squadron (again, was free. Fun shump)
Plock (free puzzle/match 2 game. sometimes it's just satisfying to go crazy tapping the screen for a minute)
Fruit Ninja (better than the rip off Veggie ninja)
Wispin (made by a gaffer. Really great looking colour based action game. addictive and very fun)
180 (another game by a gaffer. nice twist on the bubble bobble style game. you can flip the 'bubbles' between two colours. I think it's free till the new year).
Mini Squadron (I don't know f this is still free. a fun little arena shooter with planes. LOTS of unlockable planes)
Devil Invasion (really fun match 3/castle defence with RPG elements)
geoFighter (great geometry wars style game)
StarDunk (fun basketball shoot out game with a lot of different balls and world wide score attack games every so often)
Cell Splat (really fun and unique puzzler. Tap all the block that are the same as the one shown to you. grey block means all of that shape, colour splat means all of that colour)

I've got a lot more games but those are the one I'd recommend to people. Don't know a lot of great apps though.

Dodonpachi Resurrection and Espgaluda II.

don't know if it was posted, but there is an Amiga emulator on the way from the C64 emulator devs. Officially licensed.

demo video shows Defender of the Crown, Battle Squadron, International Karate +, R-Type, R-Type II, Speedball, Stunt Car Racer, Shadow of the Beast, Virus, and Xenon 2: Megablast: but these may or may not be available in the final product or in-app purchase.

oh god stunt car racer and the sentinel please!

ipad stuff: gameloft's brain age HD thing is free, as is veggie samurai HD, and catan is down to $2.99.

i've picked up both catan and carcasonne this week, lord knows if i'll get into them but it's worth a shot.

The past few years (and this trend is continuing going from 1-core CPUs to 2-core CPUs in smartphones over the next year) have had large improvements in hardware. 3G > 3GS is a huge step forward, as is 3GS > 4, and same should be true of the 2-core CPU successor to the 4. Since smartphone generations are a year or so long, the next few years should show similar increases as well as the games continue catching up to the average user's smartphone!

Just nabbed Neuroshima Hex. What a brilliant game. Between this and Riese, I'm set for the moment. Lord knows I'll be swamped when I eventually pick up Reiner Knizia's Samurai, Carc and Catan.

Have done a complete 180 on iPhone gaming. A new baby will have that effect! :lol

Infinity Blade Review - Edge

Review Score:
8 out of 10

Like Rage, in other words, Infinity Blade’s a fearsome advert for a publisher’s middleware, but Epic’s offering is smart enough to go further than that, too. The maker of Shadow Complex has delivered a game that’s sufficiently humble to allow itself to be fundamentally shaped by serious study of the platform, yet possessed of enough self-assurance to offer weighty, bone-jarring thrills despite the thinnest of mechanics. As we wait for the first of the promised updates, then, there’s plenty of reason to hope that this is the beginning, after all –the beginning of something rather special.

Yup very fun game. Can't wait for them to add netplay and I'll be recommending it even more.

It's a renaissance for me, Astrolad! I just need a nice CCG, which Minsc alerted me to in the form of Shadow Era, and I'll be set. Makes me wish I had wireless net in the house, because I'd actually nab Carc for multi. It'd blow out my phone budget a little too much, knowing me. :lol

I'd score it the same. Great graphics and combat system. The only chink in the armor (lulz) is that it feels like one of those 1980's Atari 2600 games that just had one level you had to keep playing over and over again.

Beat it in a marathon session yesterday and my iPad battery only went from 90% down to 60%. Impressive.

Devs are moving towards going 3GS/iphone 4 only and are abandoning the 1st and 2nd gen models.

It makes sense, really. The SGX models (3GS, 4, corresponding Touch models and iPad) can handle similar levels of graphical complexity with only adjustments for CPU capability required, where as the MBX models are fixed function (I think, though I may be confused here) and are significantly less capable. With each passing day the MBX is a smaller share of the market, so dev effort there becomes less and less worthwhile.

Final Fantasy Tactics update!

Looks to be Spring 2011, earliest now.

Highlights:

Dynamic (pinch?) zooming supported.
Larger UI menus for easier touch screen use
Scroll/Rotate screen by touch

The whole touch interface to me, sounds like it could work really well in navigating around the map. It's obviously way faster to tap a random square than it is to hit the left and up d-pad a few dozen times.

Tried out the demo of Illusia, it's really great! First platformer rpg that seems to be really well done in all aspects to me. First impression: very comparable to Maple Story but much more beautiful, smooth framerate, well done 'cutscenes', charming overall style, good shit!

I need an iPad version. :crosses fingers:

Has anyone heard if Real Racing 2 will be 60fps? Didn't Real Racing 1 run at that rate?

Also, does Carcassonne have Gamecenter support for multiplayer?

Interesting what is Shadow Era? Can't seem to find it on the app store. Culdcept would be awesome on iOS though speaking of CCGish games.

GameCenter is the next update for Carc; don't know when that will be though. Currently you add friends via email.

It is a rock solid 60 FPS on the build I've played. iPhone 4.

Oh good. Hopefully it will be the same for the iPod Touch 4.

I might have to jump on board, then.

It's in beta now, but apparently playable on Facebook in some form, they have a website with a trailer, that isn't too impressive, but impressions from the beta are positive from the TA thread. Now you're all caught up!

Yeah, I liked too. I'm not getting it anytime soon though. Too many games on my backlog and I still have to buy Real Racing 2, Dungeon Hunter 2 and maybe NOVA 2 and Shadow Guardian (I think this one is 2011 though).

So head to head against Tactics Ogre?

Eh, at least it exists!

I picked up Illusia last week as well and have put a few hours into it.
The translation is pretty lol, as expected, I suppose.
But the game is quite fun. The controls, graphics, and performance generally destroy Maple Story Thief Edition (which Illusia clearly rips off), and the end-result is a more consistent and more enjoyable game. It does get a bit samey after a while though. I also dig that the platforming is more challenging than Maple Story.

Got a ton of responses and sent out a few game requests. Not sure how many I want to play at once. Also, I keep bizarre hours and spend much of the day away from the Internet, so I'll be a little sporadic. Thanks guys.

Edit: Ah crap, thought I was on the carc thread. Sorry.

While I'm at it, a recommendation: Dungeon Raid. I'm not a fan of random generic fantasy themes or match puzzle games, but this is a weirdly fun roguelike puzzler with drawing controls and hidden depth.

I just checked my iPhone on iTunes and noticed that I have 1.13GB taken up by "Other". Any ideas how I check what this is and delete?

I've had this problem, it was annoying the crap out of me because it was at almost 2GB at one point.

Some research seems to suggest it's "corrupted sync data" whatever the hell that means. It's been an issue with iTunes/iPhones for about 2 years if my searching was any indication so it's pretty shocking it's still an issue.

Anyway the only way I've found to fix it is to back up your iPhone and then restore it, you can then restore the backup and all your settings, games, contacts and such will still be there but the phantom data won't be.

If my phone is any indication it will keep happening though and you'll probably have to restore it again within a few weeks depending on how bothered you are with the space it's taking up.

Damn, that's annoying. Won't doing that clear my App save data then? Better finish up a few things before I do so. Cheers, Rossy.

I thought it would but all my save data and such was still there. Better to be safe than sorry though if there's no rush on getting the space back.

I think it's related to the multitask feature.

The multitask is not really a multitask. Basically it's a memory dump of the game in the moment that you close the app, and loading the memory image when you click again in the game.

And if you have played Infinity Blade, Rage HD and some other big games, you can imagine how big those memory dumps are. Simply close any "multitask" app, and syncronize again.
