Fruit Ninja was my iPhone game of the year. It has no music. I often play it without sound.

On the other hand, the satisfying splat-thunk of cutting the fruits is a huge part of the zen-like presentation and like Peggle it effectively uses AV player feedback to make the player feel like he or she is really achieving something awesome. So don't skimp on key sound effects!

Satisfying sound effects are definitely our main (audio) priority - over trying to create a new tetris theme tune for example

Context and genre will influence as well - everyone knows what something being sliced sounds like but what we've got is something of a different/unique concept which makes finding appropriate foley sounds and audio themes a lot harder

I play almost everything totally soundless. Even games that recommend sound. Just not really into listening to game sounds or music when I have my entire music and podcast library sitting right there for the playing.

I do appreciate good sound work just don't get much of a chance to actually enjoy it.

Bought Minotaur Rescue this morning and have been playing it all day - love it.

At first I thought it was kind of average, but then I decided to start at stage 5 and the game got so much better. Pacing seems more appropriate at these stages, but I understand the need for the slow build up (stages 1-4).

Anyway - been trying to break 200k all day... So close. :D

Was a big fan of Space Giraffe (until the cheat bug reset everyones scores), so keep that in mind before buying - it's not for everyone.

Hope this game does well! (it won't) :lol

Yeah, this is why the game is awesome, the ceiling is constantly being raised. For the first few days I struggled to hit 100-200k, and then you smash that ceiling and start getting 500k as a basic score, then a mil, then 2 mil and then you realise you're hopelessly addicted :lol

A couple of tips - minotaurs increase your multiplier for shooting asteroids so make sure you get all of them that you can. And for this reason try not to die for as long as possible to keep your multiplier high.
You also get a much higher score for the minotaurs if you catch them nearer the sun, so play risky for the best scores. Also, when the UFOs start dropping mines fly away from them and come at them from the other side of the screen, it's much safer that way.

And if you want a high score to aim at add me as Jedeye Sniv on GC and OF. Good luck!

iPhone and iPad apps are separate? No buy :(
Also all games now need to add progress synch between iPhone and iPad. Only Choppers 2 is offering this feature as far as I know.

I wish capcom would design their DMC4 and Mercs around the iphone 3gs / 4, the game looks really basic because they are wanting it to work on older devices but it looks so ugly too, especially that dmc boss fight screen posted above.

Use the better tech for visuals, capcom!

qft, doesn't hold a candle to most of gameloft's releases, even the older ones, let alone to Rage or Infinity Blade... or even Aralon, which should be at a huge disadvantage due to the massive open world

Anyone into those weird Japanese shooters might be interested in Dark Break
I was contemplating this yesterday as the iPhone version is 99 cents, I love games like starfox and sin&punishment, and I really like the style.

However from the videos I've seen the framerate looks awful, which is be becoming more and more of a hangup for me in iOS games. No sale until they can manage a stable non-chopppy framerate.

Awesome - thx for the tips! Figured out the minotaurs were worth more closer to the sun, but didn't even realize they act as multipliers :lol

Add me as soupbones on both OF and GC.

^^^^^^^
guys, the automated thingie they've written for me won't get your GC/OF profiles if you won't post it in the correct formatting. I wish people would read the rules I've wrote in the list's post, please make it easier on me, I mostly read this thread on the iPad. Thanks :)

Btw,
how's GT Racing motor academy HD? just 79c, but who knows.
I don't have any of the Real Racing games so I can't compare it to them, I'd prefer a well done arcadeysh game then an attempt to a simulation.
Maybe Hot Pursuit is good, but seeing as Criterion isn't involved at all and NFS games are usually crap... uhmm.

What the hell, Flick Kick Football is crapping out on me.

It shows nothing but a black screen after the "Pik Pok presents".

The game is running, I can hear it, I can blindly touch the buttons, it shows the "welcome back, jts" pop-up from gamecenter, and it even shows the openFeint menu when I click on it by accident.

What I've done:

restarted the app (closed it on the MT tray)
closed all the apps from the tray
freed up memory on SBSettings
rebooted
respringed

Nothing works! :lol

I reinstall might do it, but I don't want to lose my save :/

GT acadamy is good fun, much more sim then other racing games on iOS. Worth the price if you like games close to forza and gran turismo.

iOS hot pursuit is really good, I would wait for a price drop again, it was super cheap only a week or two after it came out and I would guess it will happen again at easter or before.

Oh, it's not only FKF after all, games like NFS:HP, PES, etc, are doing the same.

what is this i don't even

Maybe this will tip me over to iOS 4.2...

Oh, thanks! I love sims but that is what my pc/ps3/g27 are for.
But I also LOVE arcade games, and I'd rather have fun with arcade racers on a portable machine.
I guess I'll wait on Hot Pursuit sale and download GT:Academy in the next few days when I'm not on limited wifi bandwith.

Random question:
I wonder why Flick Kick Football doesn't use the full screen of the iPad.
I always prefer in general, but to have touch controlled games to use the full screen is a must.
Also, I get the feeling that sometimes my presses don't register and I have to kinda "resets" them, lifting my finger and waiting a bit. Does this happen to anybody else?

imo Hot Pursuit is a really excellent arcade racer, much better than the previous iOS NFS's and the Asphalt titles (though I have yet to try Asphalt 6). GT Racing Motor Academy is also a really damn good GT clone, I haven't spent that much time with it yet but I was really impressed with the handling of the cars, the physics, the overall polish and the solid visuals. Keep in mind that GT Racing is DEFINITELY sim, this is about as anti-arcade as you get.

Yeah, it's disappointing. I really wish they'd just abandon older devices and move forward. DMC4 looks like a bad joke.

Just finished the first chapter of Cause of Death, at least I think it's chapter everything is named a bit oddly in that.

I really enjoyed it though so thanks to whoever mentioned it in here. I was hoping for a little more interactivity but the story was interesting enough that I wasn't too bothered by the lack of it after a while.

I'm confused as to the difference between the free and paid version, is it soley the ads? From what I can tell you still have to pay for the new chapters with the paid app. I realise those are also given out for free weekly but id rather follow he story in order rather than just play whatever is free at the time.

So should I just keep the free version and grab the chapters or will i get those as part of the paid version?

Just quoting this for a new page.

Capcom is not even done. Resident Evil Mercenaries Vs is coming to iOS

Resident Evil Mercenaries Vs. Hands-On Preview and Video
This is kind of frustrating because it feels like such a wasted opportunity. Although RE4 for iPhone/iPod was a awful lazy port I think it’s a lot of fun, which is a testament to how great the RE4 formula is. It’s sad to see this mercenaries game look like a straight port of the RE4 engine. Things don’t even animate when shot!

Thankfully Dead Space looks like some actual effort was put into it.

Oh I tried GoF 2 lite last night, damn they really took the game and completely revamped it, I was not expecting such an open world to move around in, 400% better then the first game, amazing.

Since the older devices already have a resident evil game to play (re4 mobile) capcom should have just said "right, we need a great looking game for the iphone 4 along the lines of what epic and iD have done, let's make versus using the 3DS assets to save money also" but I guess they fell asleep and then woke up to the re4 mobile engine already open on their computers.

The older devices are really poly starved when it comes to serious 3d games, Dead Rising is proof of this already.

I don't understand the hate for Gameloft creating rip offs. I'm totally fine with them creating some of my favorite franchises so I can play them on the iPhone. They do a great job of it. Shadow Guardian and NOVA 2 are excellent

Is there a list of recommended iPhone games in this thread? Just got my phone and don't want to risk wasting money on crappy games. :lol

I'm not 100% sure on this because I just went and bought it instead of playing the free version first. Did you see ads while playing the first big story? I'm assuming thats the difference between the free and paid version because I didn't see a single ad until I started playing the "currently airing" episodes. So I would stick with the free version unless you want to replay the first story without ads, as I think thats all it does.

The free version let's you play the entire Volume 1, but with ads. When you buy the game you can play the entire first Volume without ads.

Every week they release a new chapter. Right now it's up to Chapter 4 of Volume 2. You can play the episode of the week for free (with ads) until the new chapter is released next week (like a TV show). That means you can play the Chapter 4 now for free until this friday, but if you want to play chapters 1, 2 and 3 of Volume 2, you will have to buy them on "Episodes on Demand".

Just so you don't get confused, Episode = Chapter.

Hey guys since this is a very active thread, I have a question.

I took my ipod touch 4th Gen to the gym and it fell and there is a crack on the screen.

How much damage is it going to be to get it fixed?
The iPod is fully functioning.

Please help...

I thought that's how it was. Thanks for the info guys.

They really need to sort out their naming conventions on there and make it clearer the differences between the versions.

Shall pick up Chapter 2 at some point then.

New iPad owner here, first iOS device for me! I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but some quick game impressions

Solipskier is one of my favorites so far. I can understand some folks issues with fingers in the way, but I usually control it with my thumb on the right side of the screen and that works just fine.

Plants vs Zombies is still as addictive as ever. Best control scheme of the three versions.

As far as the recent "Big Three" go, Angry Birds & Cut the Rope are severely overrated, IMO. Fruit Ninja is where it's at.

Can't see the trailer from work, but...
Gameloft tackling LoZ with their next title?

Ooooh, this could be interesting!
