Does anyone here have Instapaper or Read It Later Pro? I've been very interested in Instapaper, but the price (3'99€) really draws me back. I'm used to the usual (0'79€), and I wouldn't mind, but I want to be sure my investment is worth it. Now, I use a lot public transport, and sometimes 3G drops, due to tunnels and the usual, so this app would be well-used.

Any ideas and experiences would be much appreciated!

I use Read It Later Pro every day. There's not much to say, it works exactly how you'd expect and is pretty reliable except for the occasional site which can't be rendered into it's reader mode accurately. It successfully caches what I want to read later through my browser extension or mobile safari java-bookmarklet and it's also really handy for sending things like pictures from the internet to my iPhone in one click. It's super smooth and fast, no issues like crashing, and feels very polished.

Get it, it's handy. Great entertainment on planes/trains.

I got ReadItLater a few months ago when it went free, and it's an amazing app.
I tried the lite version of Instapaper before, and didn't like it that much. The interface didn't grow on me, but I can't say I used it extensively enough to make a proper judgement.

I can vouch for ReadItLater. It's amazing, and one of the few apps I would have paid for.

Whatsapp Messenger is free! Don't know if it's a permanent or temporary deal.

Instapaper is one of my Top 10 apps. I use it all the time for catching up on reading that I saved for later. Offline caching works great when you're without data.

I'm torn between ReadItLater or Instapaper. ._. I was almost sold on Instapaper, giga could you elaborate a little bit more on Instapaper? If not I might dip in ReadItLater Pro (I tried the lite version, it felt a bit confusing).

Thanks a lot for the replies, and sorry I couldn't check in earlier, had an exam. (:

I'm surprised you say this but different strokes. Whatever you choose I definitely recommend adding a cache/cloud send/text reading mode app to your arsenal.

Rumors point to no, but no one knows. iPhone 5 will probably be announced in the late summer or fall. Wait until Monday to know for sure though.

Hm, I remember Instapaper having a lite version as well. Maybe Marco removed it. I'll upload some screens in a sec.

Yeah Marco took it down as an experiment and then left only the paid one when he didn't notice any impact on sales. He talks about it in one of his recent podcasts irrc.

Hey guys, quick question ;

Is there a way to save a map on Google Maps on IOS? Like, save a map so it doesn't have to download it when I load it?

I do not understand why Jobs is so set against using the volume button(s) to take pictures. Touching the on-screen button can be awkward. At the very least, you should be able to touch anywhere on the screen to trigger the shutter.

Yeah, I'm avoiding jailbreaking because in my experience it was very buggy and springboard crashed toop often but the simple little things like volume-as-shutter made a world of a difference.

I have not followed iPhone news at all. My Droid X recently died (fell into a pool). I'm letting it dry overnight but I doubt it will help. It was in the pool for a good 20-30 seconds. I have a crappy backup phone in case it doesn't work, but am looking into the iPhone.

What's the latest on the iPhone 5? This year? Next? Anything? Sorry if it's been asked a lot, just weighing my options.

You should ask that question in the NeoGaf iOS jailbreak thread. The regulars in this iPhone 4 thread don't want to be disturbed by the jailbreak news and so requested that the topic be discussed in a different thread. You're more likely to get answers if you ask there.

That said, here's an answer:
The 'official' site for jailbreak tools is the iPhone Dev blog. For folks new to the scene, I usually recommend the tutorials at iClarified (incidentally iPhone-Dev recently recommended iClarified as well). However iClarified is sometimes slow to update the links in its tutorials when one of the jailbreak tools gets an update, so make sure to cross-check with the iPhone Dev blog. An alternate tutorial site  to consider is, amusingly enough, a Microsoft blog, Redmondpie.

Jailbreaking an iPhone is not hard. Imo it's easier to get power user status (jailbreaking) that on other platforms (rooting on Android, installing Preware on webOS, usin the Chevron tool on WP7)

Personally I wouldn't jailbreak now.

iOS5 should be coming out soon and you don't want to make upgrading awkward.

I jailbroke before but removed it within the same day. Nothing interested me from the jailbreak.

what are some awesome, cool to show off the iphone apps (no games) something that will wow everybody

iOS5 beta will be here soon. Installing the beta is even worse than jailbreaking imo.

SoundHound can name any song the iPhone's mic can hear.

In Google Translate you can speak into it and it'll translate what you said. (Which is awesome when you hear a foreign word that you have no idea how to spell.)

if you use game center add me: DreamVsPS2 ( already posted it in the official thread)

does anyone know the best website for creating ringtones? i saw one ages ago where you could upload a song, choose a section of it and it would spit out a converted file ready for your iphone... cant seem to find it though.. the website had a short name, really would like to find it again:)

Don't know if this is the one you're thinking of but audiko.net is the one I used to use.

I use iRinger. It's great.

Anybody having Issues with their home buttons? It seems like it started like two months ago but the home button is very hit and miss. It can sometimes takes 3 or 4 presses to register and then it can work fine the rest of the day.

This comes up several times ITT, general consensus seems to be take it back to an Apple store and they will swap it out for you.

Just checkin out Verizon iPhone 4s on eBay and I have never seen any phone model with so many Bad ESN listings; it seems like 50/50 chance on good/bad ESN. What is going on here? Are people making a lot of insurance claims and selling their old ones or something (obviously not expecting an answer, but just thinking out loud)?

I kinda wish eBay wouldn't allow Bad ESN phones to be listed but I suppose they are not going to give up all of that revenue.

So with the rumor of the iPhone 5 having a curved screen a la the Palm Pre, does that mean it won't have the flat 'build' that the iPhone 4 has (which I love)?

This is a stupid question, but do they swap out just the button or the whole phone? I dunno how easy it is to swap stuff on an iPhone, so I always just assumed they'd give you a new one.

The Pre curved like a bump, I thought the rumor was it would curve in like the Nexus S (inwards).

I'd prefer it remain flat myself.
