I wish Apple addressed the antenna issue before the weekend hit. I need some sort of closure, and this has already been one long day of silence. That, and trying to find anything in the cesspool that MacRumors has become since the announcement this weekend is slowly chipping away at my will to live. That place needs mods, desperately.
 
I try to stay away from MacRumors, they are the most fanatical obsessives on the planet, and some of the shit they complain about is just mind-boggling.

One way to streamline it would be to have a separate thread for jailbreak-related discussion.
 
I just realized I don't even hold my current iPhone in the "wrong way" so I should be good. May be bad when I'm using it for apps and other junk but talking shouldn't be a problem for me. Guess I'm lucky that I hold it with my fingertips pressing it against me.

And people, it's just a thread! No need to get worked up.

Simple solution is just make a new one every few months to prevent the megathreads. Copy over the OP, add some new info maybe and everyone's happy. Shouldn't matter who's in charge.

I paid Gizmodo a visit, and came across this article about StealthArmor for the iPhone 4 and there's a video that demonstrates their aluminum band strip you place over the antenna that apparently serves as a temporary fix for the whole signal issue.

I ended up ordering one of those StealthArmor things in a clear finish, but they mention in their video and not their product page that you have to ask them for the aluminum band and they've already processed my order... I may just send it back anyway. I'm still on the fence about putting anything on my iPhone at the moment and I don't think some of their designs looked good at all.

according to slashgear, this case doesn't work at all..and the video itself was kinda shady, i mean they put the case on and the guy shows you the bars for barely three seconds..

Interestingly, testing my iPhone 4's 3G with this whole antenna issue, while holding it in the "death grip," I do go down to one bar, but using the Speedtest.net web app, I just received the same download speeds as I did without holding the phone. ~1.3Mbps down and up. Sexy, but it seems as if the bars where not mirroring the signal strength.

Meanwhile, last night in my basement, I went down to 1 or 2 bars while in the "death grip" and dropped pretty much to nothing: 53kbps down, 134kbps up (from 1.4Mbps download, careful hold).

In my living room yesterday afternoon: Down to 368kbps down, 507kbps up.

Moral of the story is that I could easily see how this could be a terrible mess of the software glitch where the phone isn't properly displaying how good the signal is correctly, combined with a hardware fault. Or it could be entirely software-based. Who knows. Anyways, this has been my experience.
 
Hmm. I went ahead and ordered that free slip someone linked to earlier, but I like that last case. Of course, that slip case won't arrive until near the middle of July...
 
Someone please make Rubix the OP again. I don't even know who this OP is and I'm in every Apple thread. That is not a good sign that he'll keep the OP updated.

It was called "Now Playing" used for finding movie times, upcoming DVD releases, Netflix, etc.

It got pulled by the devs thanks to 3rd parties wanting $$ basically.

Movies by Flixster is ok, but NP is the best.

I love that app! This is the first I heard of that. Damn this is where Apple's multitasking method fails. I was afraid this might happen.

Multitasking on the iPhone only works if an app is updated. When it was announced, I was worried about what apps wouldn't get updated and now this is the first one I'm aware of. Other people insisted it wouldn't be a problem.

If an app gets pulled and existing instances of it don't work at all anymore, why does it matter if it won't multitask?

Not all apps stop working when it gets pulled or development stops. Not even the basic suspend state would work. How is that sone crazy concept or view?

Buddy, the app got pulled because third parties decided they didnt want to give their information for free.

Where in gods name did you get multitasking from?

I have not felt this fucking confused in a long time...

multitasking doesn’t even enter into it. it’s dead, Jim.

I haven't checked movie times in a couple months and only noticed it wasn't updating now that I migrated over to the iPhone 4, but when I was using it, it was for netflix which still is working right now.

While the app is half crippled, it doesn't change the flaw in the multitasking implementation. That prnciple doesn't change no matter how you twist it.

The app getting pulled was one of my favorite apps which shows a case where it won't be updated for even just the basic suspend for multitasking. In this case the app is semi crippled but what about apps that wouldn't be?

No, but it would have been nice if the OS supported a suspend state by default for any app rather than relying on that base functionality being dependent on the developer.
 
I’m not sure how an implementation can be flawed if <iOS 4 apps don’t have a multi-tasking API to hook into. It’s like complaining that MagSafe is flawed because PowerBooks can’t use it.

It’s not dependent on the developer. They just have to recompile the app using the latest version of the iPhone SDK.




Apple should have taken it upon themselves and recompiled all 200,000 apps for iOS4 though.

It is dependent if the developer has to submit an updated app. I don't see how that can't be defined as dependent. I can't believe people don't see that as an issue. I mean how many apps of yours work with multitasking at this point versus ones that don't?

That doesn't matter as the point is multitasking is dependent on developer support instead of the os taking care of it for you. You can't deny it because it's true and it is a weakness in apple's implementation. Argue all you want but you cannot say that what I'm saying is wrong or isn't true.
 
Seriously, why on earth do we still have 32-bit third party apps? I really did expect Snow Leopard to automatically convert them all instead of relying on the developer to do it.
