Good going so far! Can get 2 days with proper use of the phone

Oh got these today for £20 for both! (two iPhone 2G docks fo my iPhone 4)

huge picture

That's incredible. It's noon here and I'm already down to 65%. The last 2% was lost sending 4-5 text messages. :/

Dunno - They seem to only stream old shows and movies from like 4 years ago.. From what I saw but I only found out about it yesterday.

Just in case though I will edit my post (If you can do the same)

Done. Didn't intend my post to be tattling as much as just curious.

I think it was you who I asked before but have you conditioned your battery?

Well I guess so, but it only seemed to make it worse. Last night the iPhone died on me and I charged it overnight.

(2 more games of Battleship and a check of the weather later and I've dropped from 65% to 61%)

The reason I asked about the push emails is because a friend of mine had the same problem with his iPhone 3G and changing to fetch fixed his battery problems.

As far as my battery, I have 30 minutes of usage and 1 and a half hours of standby, made two five minute calls, took a picture checked my email and I'm at 94% right now.

Going to the AT&T store tomorrow morning to see If I can grab an iPhone 4 for my girlfriend and myself. You think 5 AM should be OK?

Way early enough, haha. I would go too but I have work until 2ish. I'm going Friday to get one.

Yeah. I'm going to have to exchange this thing. Two texts and 3 photos (no flash) later and I've now tumbled to 59%. It's crazy.

10 minutes later and I've killed another 5% of the battery. That really shouldn't be possible no matter what I'm doing, should it?

I don't think it's a problem, it's actually a new feature I believe. I remember reading that the phone registers that when you're swiping that much, you're trying to get to something near the bottom of the list/post/etc. and thus it speeds up the scrolling to get there quicker.

Huh. I'll just have to get used to it, I suppose. I hadn't really noticed it on the iPad until I just now checked, but it seems smoother and less janky on the iPad. One of the things I've loved about the UI for both devices is how the scrolling always just feels right, especially compared to other smart phones which always feel off. We'll see how I feel about this feature over time.

Oh shit. Maybe I should wait for a new batch of models to hit? Or wait until the White at least..

So AT&T is guranteed to have the phones tomorrow right? I know an AT&T around here that no one is really familiar with that opens around 8 ish. Can I get there @ opening or do you think thats too late? Anyone have a figure of how many they are getting? I was following the thread religiously in the "WWDC" thread or whatever but looks like its gone and we have this official thread now

I just came in here to post that this is the best consumer device I ever owned.

And that Invisible Shield from Zagg is rubbish and a waste of $20 >:-(
Why rubbish? I ordered a set for my wife and I. Comes in next week. Did you own one previously? I enjoyed their previous products immensely.

I believe Gary Whitta has said that the space for the headphone jack on the bumper seems to only fit the Apple earphone jack (and earphones similar). So the workarounds are to precisely make the hole larger, or invest in this maybe:

Where do you get one of those though?

Try running the battery down until it dies and then charging to 100%

Running it down until it dies doesn't take much effort. It's happened to me twice so far since I've owned the phone, just in a normal day's use. It shut down on me last night around 9pm because the battery died. It was then charged to 100% over night and I pulled it off the charger at 7:50am this morning.

I always have push on and did with my 3G as well and it never had a huge effect on my battery life. I have my Yahoo! and work email and calender pushed to my phone and the battery life was always good on my 3G and it is amazing on my 4.

Wonder if he has a lemon?

I will never say guranteed when it comes to shipping, but they are scheduled to start selling iPhone 4s to people who didn't have pre-orders tomorrow morning and on ATT.com tomorrow morning. The AT&T store near me was acting like they are going to get a crapload, but you never know. I would get their early, but it seems the hysteria has kind of died down already. The fact I already have mine might be clouding my judgement though.

iphone 4 fits into the 2g docks? I was so annoyed that my iphone 4 wouldn't fit into my 3g dock.... :(

He's got to. Soundsl ike he's not doing anything out of the ordinary, nor does he have anything set up to drain battery that quickly.

I would go into an Apple store (call first to make an appt!) and just explain the problem to them. They'll most likely give you a new phone to try that problem out first.

It'd be nice if they sent phones to those of us who ordered the damn things on the 15th while they're at it. >___<

Yeah. Nearest one is in Louisville, so it won't be happening anytime soon unfortunately. Perhaps in a month or two I will be out there for something.

I feel like the battery is good, but not quite as good as I expected after the iPad. I know that the iPad has way more battery capacity, but I thought that the smaller screen size would compensate for that more. I guess I figured the lower power consumption of the A4 was a little more responsible for the great battery life than it is.

I still easily get through a day of normal usage, so I can't complain. But the iPad is on a whole other level, to the point where I could probably make it through a whole week if I wasn't doing anything too intensive. I also had a Mophie Juice case for my old 3G, so I could keep that thing running for a while even though its battery was shit by the end.

On another note, has anyone tried selling their old iPhones? I see that even 3Gs are still going for over $150 on ebay, so I'm planning on throwing mine and my wife's up there today.

Do you have the IPad 3G? I imagine that if you just used wifi and turned off your cellular connection the iPhone would also have a similar battery life.

I've sent 4 texts today, one with a photo. My email is set to push and before I came to work I opened my mailbox to delete the messages. I'm down to 86% in 2 hours after a full charge. My brightness is set to 50% with auto-brightness on. Does this sound normal or not? I honestly can't tell as I didn't have the percentage meter on my 3G.

So what's the deal w/ multitasking? Do I need to be diligent about closing programs or does it not really matter?

You were holding it in your hand while running?
nope i had it in my 3gs switcheasy case without the spine which i have been using to run with since i got the 4. headphone cable dangling around getting hit was enough to pop it out of the belt clip holster and bam! next time i run i will be putting rubber bands or something around it to hold in in the belt clip until switcheasy comes out with an iphone 4 case/clip. to credit of the glass, i expected a whole lot worse than the scratches which are only really visible when the screen is off.

What about the reception issue? Didn't they say they were putting out an update today?

I can only wait so long for them to fix that, and the sensor problem, and the random batteries which drain in half a day.

Weird..

I surfed a few more pages.. checked facebook and its still 93%

Its been 4 hrs.

If you are experiencing all of these then your phone is just fucked up and should be returned.

If you arent or arent even an owner then you are reading way to much into sporadic problems thinking you will have all of them once you get yours.

I think that was more a theory of the internet than any sort of statement from Apple. It was mentioned in a discussion on the support forums, but then pulled. I've pretty much already adjusted my grip by this point.

Sucks about the sensor problems. I definitely don't have that one. The battery thing is probably just a few lemons, which would be the case no matter what. If you sell almost 2 million products in three days, some are going to have problems.

Hmm, I can't tell if I'm doing ok or not with my battery life. I unplugged my phone about 2.5 hours ago, wifi is on, only checked email once, bluetooth is off, signal is kinda weak in this office, and I've only been listening to a podcast for about an hour and I'm down to 89%. While I'm sure weak signal helps drain the battery quicker, I wouldn't have thought just listening to a podcast for an hour would have my battery that low. Heh I probably should turn off the % display.

Yes, turn off the %. After this thread we are all gonna be paranoid about battery problems.

89% sounds fine for your phone after that activity.

Thanks. I noticed I was inadvertently piling up apps in there so it's good to know it doesn't affect anything.

I think it might. My battery was draining a little faster today, maybe like 3% an hour (I have everything on, GPS, 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, Location things, Push things, everything). Seemed weird. So I mass-killed all 30 or so of my background apps, and now it's back to draining around 1% an hour, so it seems to make a difference with certain apps.

I figure %s like this for minimal use (a couple times an hour):

%1 per 3 hours: official PR breakdown of standby
%1 an hour: good battery life
%3 an hour: poor battery life (something is draining your battery, mass kill background apps)

For gaming, I'd say expect 3-10% per hour, depending on the game.

AstroLad said:
Thanks, how do you mass kill?

Those apps in the bottom are not apps that are running. They are just recently launched apps.

Apps do not continue running in the background (unless they are streaming media.)

So don't worry about "killing" anything.

Bluetooth? My, you're crazy. I've never even turned that on. I'm afraid to. I never used it with my 3G either. I couldn't. No way would my battery have survived that. My iPhone 4 is now down to 31%. I don't think it will even last me through the end of work.

Really though? I thought the iPhone 4 was rated for 40 hours of audio play which was the bulk of my usage. That's why I wouldn't have expected to be so low already from mostly just idle and audio playing.

AstroLad said:

Well, you just have to close the apps a lot, press repeatedly in the same spot 30 times, the little minuses don't move position when the apps close. I killed everything and my battery usage went from ~3%/hour to ~1%/hour.

I get about 100+ hours with every possible thing enabled on the phone, minimal use, but even with fair usage, I doubt I'd hit under 50% a 10 hour work day.
