The iPhone 4 |OT|

I can buy the wireless syncing and charging, but I can't buy no headphone jack. Everyone in the world has a pair of headphones, I don't think they're going to ditch them and upgrade to expensive wireless headphones just to use the new iPhone. Look at how badly the "special" headphone jack on the iPhone 1 went over. I think that'll stay as it is now, a headphone jack but with the options in place to go wireless via bluetooth.

I'm also not sure they'd ditch the home button. The shape of the iPhone, (and iPod Touch/iPad for that matter) the rectangle with one small circle button, is now iconic. Not only that, but there needs to be the border around the screen for the camera, the ear speaker, and the light and proximity sensors. I really don't think they'd have those holes just floating in the middle of a glass screen.

I could see them ditching the volume buttons, though, if they ever make good on that touch-sensitive backside patent they have. (Which I bet they will, now that the back of the iPhone is glass. I have a feeling this was the first step in that direction) Then instead of pushing buttons to make the volume go up or down you'd swipe up or down on the back of the phone.

What's the best app for simple photo editing on the iPhone, it seems iPhoto lacks any cropping/rotating/basic manipulation features.

Photoshop.com Mobile lets you crop and rotate pictures, among several other types of visual flourishes, and it's free.

Does anyone know a better estimate of when the iPhone4 will land in Australia cause I'm debating on whether to get a 32gb 3GS tomorrow or wait it out?

Late July, apparently.

July 23 or 30 is the currents date being talked about.

So I already replaced my iPhone 4 with another iPhone 4 because of particles that were under the screen, but now my second iPhone 4 has white dead pixel on it. Is it possible for me to swap it again for another iPhone 4? and would I have to pay for this swap because it is a second exchange???

Post a picture. Someone else did earlier and I couldn't make out problem. Is it one pixel or a clump of them? Cos it's the retina display you know, you shouldn't be able to see the pixels...

Ten days till my unlocked 4 comes from the online Apple Store.

It's killing me as I don't have my old iPhone 3g in the interim but man a mate got a iPhone 4 and that screen is brutal, can't wait.

All right, so I've ordered mine from the UK, through Borderlinx, to Sweden.

It will take a month.

How much including shipping and their(?) fees? It's almost a month until we can get one here anyway...

I dont have a camera around me, but when my iPhone is on a black or dark website or image I can see a shinning white pixel that is under the glass.

Steve Jobs: Just avoid going to those websites

6100 SEK including everything. Not bad for a factory unlocked, ready-to-go iPhone 4.

Thanks for pointing me out to this site--which has led me to find a bunch of other similar services. I've yet to find a Canadian-based one though--I have a feeling that Canada will have the cheapest factory-unlocked iPhones.

You're like that lame uncle that keeps on making lames jokes over and over that you want to get away from so you can play basketball with your friends.

I love the iPhone 4 as much as the next guy, but the proximity sensor issue is seriously frustrating me. It seems like either putting your call on hold or hanging up your call because the proximity sensor isn't working as it should is inevitable if you make a call longer than a few minutes.

This is my third iPhone so there really isn't any excuse for the proximity sensor to not work perfectly. Let's hope that this is something they can fix.

Man, I have been taking pictures and video of 4th events and parade last night and this morning and the quality is just impressive.

Camera is godly.

Got a 3GS and a crappy computer: should I buy iPhone 4 or iPad? The computer is almost only usable for downloading stuff, and I love my 3GS. I only use my computer surfing the net.

I don't care.

It seems like all you do lately is try to stir up dumb fanboy fights.
Aahh, "fanboy". That's a dangerous word; Liu Kang will be here to complain in 3... 2... Oh wait, it's you using it so all good, huh.

You see it as stirring up fanboy shit (you're all fanboys for taking the bait?) while I see it as shrugging off dumb personal attacks with snark. I don't care.

Looks like it. I don't even know why some people get so worked up over the Internet. Am I the only one who finds that weird all together? This is a place we should come to relax and talk about stuff we like.

Retire, relax, enjoy your family. It is just a phone. Not worth it.
Stop the derail of the thread, if you have nothing to add, just leave.

Anyone know if there is international dates yet?

So. 16 hours of usage and 1 day, 9 hours of standby with wifi on most of the time and Bluetooth on all of the time...about 2 hours talking (40 minutes speakerphone) and the rest streaming Pandora, NPR and web browsing...I have 23% left. Good? Normal? Bad?

I'm not sure if anyone will be in a position to help me out here...

I've put the iPhone clock on my iPad through SSH, but the icon looks like shit because its only 56x56pixels, blown up to a 72² space.

Could someone with a jailbroken iPhone 4 SSH into /var/mobile/Applications/, find MobileTimer and grab the icon.png?

Let me know if you can help! Thaaaaaanks

16 hours of usage
23% left.

Man, you don't know if that's good?

And Mac fans wonder how they get the rep that they're condescending pricks... Not everyone is an expert, and for many this is their first smart phone so they don't know what to expect. You could have just responded instead of acting like a dick about it.

To answer his question, yes that's pretty good and may even be normal. It is by no means bad.

Just want to make sure. "usage" is very nonspecific. If it were 16 hours with the screen on or making calls, I wouldn't ask.

But it's been with relatively minimal talking. Things like Pandora used with the screen off (locked).

~20% of it was drained overnight, mostly by an alarm clock app I installed that requires it to be left on and the screen locked in order for it to work. All 7 of those hours counting towards "usage" even though I'm not using it per se.

Maybe when the batt hits 10% today and I charge it up, I'll reset the usage info, not use that alarm app and see how it goes.

I've been using the phone to post here today. I'm streaming NPR in the background. Since the post I made (that you quoted) the phone is down to 15%.

So NPR streaming + GAF + 3G = 8% in ~20 minutes or so.

That's why I ask. :)

That's awesome, my 3GS with all of that usage could not last half a day.

Ha. For some reason, I'm having amnesia when it comes to my 3G phone. 3G hammers phones, I think. Now that my 3G phone gets no signal, it's battery lasts forever. lol

Anyway took a quick call and back to streaming NPR live in the NPR app while browsing. Down to 10%.

Audio streaming over 3G = the new Flash? :lol

Not bad at all. I guess it will be around 1000 SEK more for the 32 GB version. Too bad I didn't know about this service prior to the release. :)

Personally, I wanted to wait for some impressions to make sure it works well. Turns out people have been getting their phones, so...

Dude, what? I wrote that without any seriousness at all. It meant "yes" in a "shit, you got 16 hours of battery out of it, isn't this phone awesome" way.

I also don't think Mac fans wonder how they get that rep at all, bro.
