Go with a 4. The difference in screen quality/resolution is a very big improvement. Internet reading (particularly on that size screen) and gaming benefit greatly.

Hey quick question, I recently had my old desktop computer go bad and lost everything on it. But I still have my iphone 4 with all the games, movies, video and music on it. I now have a laptop to use so I can sync my phone up to itunes. I'm not at home now but when I go home tonight, how do I take everything that's on my iphone 4 and download it to my itunes (harddrive of my laptop)? Will itunes automatically sync everything that's on my phone onto the harddrive of my laptop for me? I hope this makes sense, I basically just want to have everything on my iphone be on my laptop now.

Has anyone picked up the Gevey Sim Tray and used it successfully? I picked one up since I'll be moving to the UK in a couple weeks and kinda missed out on the jail breaking/unlocking with several updates. Wanted to know what GAF thought of them since it unlocks without having to jailbreak.

You're screwed.

iTunes will only sync your phone with the contents of the iTunes on your new laptop. If the iTunes on your new laptop is empty, after you sync, your phone will also be wiped of all music, movies, etc.

It sucks, but it's Apple's way of minimizing piracy. You can either start again, or download a 3rd party program that will grab all the data on your iPhone, and then allow you to manually place it back into iTunes.

Hey folks, hoping you can help.

I'm from the UK and I'm going to NYC for one week. I can't use mobile data as I will be charged a fortune.

Is there any way of using the phones gps capability without using data. Is there an NYC map app that I can use?

Thanks
I think GPS should work.

But just getting some offline maps should work for you. It's usually insanely simple to navigate there. You'll either be close to a numbered "street" or a numbered "avenue," or one of the big avenues.

So, I just noticed that I have a mobile contract till November '11. How assumable is it that Apple will release a new iPhone till then?

The buyer's guide at macrumors.com tells me that there's something coming. What is the next show Apple will do?

You can have itunes transfer all of your purchases to your computer when you sync.
For your music that wasn't purchased through itunes you can download iPhone explorer from http://www.macroplant.com/ and copy the iTunes_Control folder to your computer.

Wow, you can't be serious? So you're basically saying that I can NEVER sync my phone to iTunes again because when I do I'll lose everything on my iPhone? UNREAL!! Also, what 3rd party program were you referring to when you mentioned grabbing all of the data on my iPhone and then manually placing it back into iTunes?

Just bought Navigon (GPS) Europe for my iPhone 4. Now I only need 1Password for having all the crucial apps on my phone in my opinion. I can't wait to test out the GPS next weekend. Bought a vent mount for it as well.

What is a good Twitter client that sends push notifications when people you follow send tweets?
Doesn't the official Twitter client do that? (@username profile » More » Notification Options » Enable)

iPod refreshes are always announced in September just before the holidays, that would be the most likely event for an iPhone 5.

That's only for when people mention/reply/message your twitter handle. He wants his entire timeline (every tweet) to show up as notifications I think. I know for sure that Boxcar can do that, but it doesn't update instantly and if there's more than one tweet it'll just give one of them as the notification with a "plus 5 more" at the end or something.

I figured I'd ask here as it is somewhat related. I use Gmail as my email client, and I like using the native Mail app on iPhone. I use IMAP so all the messages are synchronized between the browser and the phone. There are a crapload of extra IMAP folders for Gmail under the pre-designated folders that the Mail app has ready to go. Is there any way to get rid of the extra ones?

Yeah, I'm running iOS 5 beta and I'd rather view tweets in notification center instead of going into the Twitter app and refreshing.

There's gotta be some jailbreak tweak being worked on specifically for this. I know you can do that with lockinfo.

You can have Twitter text you every time they post by adding your mobile phone to Twitter and clicking the mobile icon on their twitter profile. It's not push and uses texts, but it works.

I got a question, guys.

I'm about to get a new working visa where I live and once I do, I plan on getting a new phone. I really want an iPhone, but I was expecting iPhone 5 to be announced already and it seems like it might be announced in September, but staying 3 months and a half without a phone is something I'd like to prevent.

I know there are no official news about the iPhone 5 (right?), so this question is probably hard to answer, but.. do you guys think it would be worth it to get an iPhone 4 this year, and just go for the iPhone 6 (?) next year? Or maybe the next iPhone might include enough good updates that could make the wait worth it?...

Thanks in advance! :3

Just something to think about: The tiered data plans that will be offered in 3 weeks... If you are thinking about going to Verizon, keep this in mind.

I was thinking about waiting until September myself- Not anymore.

Sorry, forgot to say I'm in Japan. I still don't know much about the plans they got here, so I will go to Softbank (the company that has iPhone here) and ask them. I basically want the cheapest plan that has unlimited internet service (unlimited packages, that's what they say here, anyway).

But I guess if it's a good plan, it's not worth waiting until September, and instead just skipping iPhone 5?... The camera on the iPhone 4 is alright-ish, right?

Seriously, what is iPhone 5 going to offer that is going to make me feel like shit that I bought an iPhone 4 this year?

The screen res is already incredible, the phone captures HD video, 32 gigs is enough memory.

I honestly would need something mindblowing on the iPhone 5 to want to buy it right away.

it will almost surely use the A5 chip, so the new one would have around 2X CPU and ~9X GPU performance.

that might matter to some folks, depending on how they use the phone and what kinds of apps they use often.

I have one big complaint since I got my iphone 4. My old 3G didn't have great reception in my apartment, but I never had a dropped call. It worked just fine as a phone here. Since I got my iphone 4, though at least 50% of my calls drop at some point in my apartment. Really rather annoying.

Next-Generation iPhone With 'Radical New Case Design' Coming in August?
BGR reports that it has received word from a reliable source indicating that the next-generation iPhone will indeed be a significant departure from the existing iPhone 4 form factor, bringing a "radical new case design" for the handset. According to the source, Apple may be preparing for an event in early or mid August to introduce the next iPhone, which would become available in the last week of August.

While Apple has indeed been giving some developers access to a device known as the iPhone 4S -- an iPhone 4 with upgraded internals -- BGR has independently confirmed that the next-generation iPhone will not merely be an upgraded iPhone 4 as had been previously rumored. We have been told by a reliable source to expect a radical new case design for the upcoming iPhone. We have not been given any additional details surrounding the design of the new iPhone case, though.

BGR's claims contradict a number of other reports that have claimed that Apple's next iPhone will appear nearly identical to the iPhone 4, with most improvements confined to the internals of the device. Several reports have also suggested that the new iPhone won't appear until the September-October timeframe, in line with the company's iPod-focused media event traditionally held around that time.

While BGR has demonstrated solid sourcing for Apple's iOS updates and offered some accurate information from Apple's retail store operations, the site has been less accurate with other recent claims. Recent misses include Back to School promo details and claimed MacBook Pro details

I for one hopes the iPhone 5 launches around January next year here in Scandinavia, then I'll be able to buy my parents one each, while I keep my iPhone 4. I'm excited for the next one though, as always.

Anyone have in-ear headphone recommendations for the iPhone? I had the official apple in-ear ones, but seem to have misplaced them. They weren't that good, and I got them on the cheap, so I'm looking for an upgrade. Anyone?

Kickers. Good stuff.

Fuck I was about to cave in and buy the iPhone 4 because it seemed like the 5 wasn't coming out this year and/or wouldn't be a big upgrade. Now we get this rumor.
