They will need a new chip/antenna, they already have separate skis for coma and gsm, add a third? Also I don't know if there is a chip/antenna to support all 3, and I bet apple would love to just make one device.
I recall reading that there is one, maybe someone who knows more can shed light.

I still don't get why you would buy the old one when it's 99$ more. You spend most of the money on the plan the extra 100$ is worth waiting a month or two so you don't miss out on features and end up behind from day one.
I try to save money when I can, even if it means I'm always a step behind the current generation.

But I guess it all depends on the plan really. Wonder if I'm eligable for an upgrade from my 3GS. Urgh, phone carrier bullshit is so irritating.

The only reason I say this is having the current ten gets you more $$. You can always sell it when its time to upgrade, where as being behind will always cost you more. It retains less value. For instance I will be selling my 4for 400 or so, and buying the 5 and making a profit.

Thanks to ATT making me eligible already for upgrade. Thew perks of buying a launch day purchaser.

Does anyone else have the 'press the home button near the top with your nail and it won't respond' thing as mentioned by Error? I'm booked in at the Apple store since my home button seems less responsive than it was, but after trying my friends 3 week old white iPhone 4 his is far worse than mine even, so I'm worried I'll give them my pristine and maybe not too broken iPhone 4 and get something back that's even worse :S

My launch day iPhone 4 has an awful home button. So hard to do simple stuff like double presses or even get it to respond at all sometimes.

Same thing happened with my 3G. I really hate the design of the home button. At this point is be all for some sort of touch sensitive button rather than a physical one in the next iPhone.
Ahh.. many thanks - hard to know what to do now isn't it? I thought mine was bad but seems like maybe it's normal.

Hmm, other than the nail thing (right at the very top of the button) I can't actually replicate it now - compared to my friends brand new iPhone which rarely presses if you press either at the top or bottom of the button, regardless of how you press it too.

I swear for the past few weeks it's been very temperamental, but I have been using an app which frequently causes my phone to crash so it could be linked. Also in the last day I haven't experienced the problem once (also - not using the app that crashes due to the financial markets being closed) so I'm pretty damn confused by what to do next, argh! Sorry to go on :)

If it doesn't get worse again by Tuesday I may just cancel my appointment, but knowing my luck as soon as I do that it'll break good and proper! :o

My home button has been acting up as well, and my limited warranty is up in 15 days. I'm considering having it replaced, also because I have a bright little pixel shining through the black border of my screen that has existed since I got the phone, but have learned to deal with it.

Is there an official word if they're replacing phones because of the home button? Would that bright pixel help my case too?

Why do people come in here only to troll?

I was kind of hoping to come in here and see discussion on iOS5 and Iphone5.

But I get 'LOL FLASH' and 'ANDROID CRUSHING iOS"

Who cares?

The same two people who come in to do it for the lulz. And get away with it consistently.

Is there a known problem with the Iphone 4's speakers? I could've swore that it was loud, but now I can't hear people too good. I tend to sweat with the Texas Heat and I'm not sure if that's been affecting it. Or maybe I'm just imagining things since the ipod speaker works fine.

Any of you guys rely on the Gvoice app for your call duties? Whats it like in day to day use?

I actually love the size of the iPhone currently. If they want to increase the screen I would have rather they just pushed the screen closer to the edges.

A bigger screen is nice but when the phone gets too large it becomes a pain to carry it around.

lol. I don't get the point of GV. how many people really use that much talk time. I have 4600 roll over mins.
Hmm... Clearly you don't get the point of GV.

I hope Apple goes button-less with the next iPhone/iPad, but it probably won't happen.

I think the next iPhone and iPad will take design cues from the MacBook Air. A taper wouldn't surprise me in the least and it would at least differentiate the iPhone design wise from most other phones.

Hmm, well I'm borrowing an iPod touch and basically setting it up as if it were my phone. You know, just to see whats really changed in the last two years since I left the platform.

The Gvoice app seems ok, but its gimped on the iPod, it can only do click2call so I can't really test out what it would actually be like to use the Gvoice app as my dialer/text/VM app. I'm still just not a fan of the way the app handles text messaging. (same thing bugs me on Android) I really REALLY want to port my number to Gvoice and actually use it. It would be so cool. I just don't like the mobile texting experience, its not quite good enough.

. The free Gtalk version of Beejive is pretty damn nice though! I gotta say.

The more and more I think about it, the more and more sense it makes for me to go back to the iPhone. But I need to make sure its actually gonna work out before the iPhone5 comes out.

Again I don't. Can someone explain it to me?
You can call/text from your browser. Without being anywhere near your phone.

Among other things like custom actions based on numbers or contact groups, call screening, call recording, and 100 other ridiculous features. I want to start using it so I don't have to use my phone when I'm at home. I just don't know the best way to do it, because the mobile app for Android is kinda bad.. and the iOS one isn't really any better.

A big feature for people with more than one number is you link Gvoice to all your phone numbers, and then when someone asks for your number you give them your GV number. So when they call it every phone you own rings, or if its like at night only your home phone will ring, or during the day only your mobile will ring. Shit like that.

HenryGale said:

You can set filters based on phone numbers so you can have specific voice mail messages, or even tell it to ignore certain numbers. You can also have it transcribe voice mail to text and a ton of other features that go beyond just voice calling.

I use a GV extension through Cydia to use my GV account to text. Thus, I don't need to pay for a texting plan but I still use the default SMS app. There's a phone extension too, which masks your outbound calls as your GV number so people don't get confused.

Whoa can you link to or elaborate on that a little bit? You can use the default messaging app to send texts with Gvoice? That sounds like almost exactly like what I want.
I'm mainly into Gvoice for the texting. I really want to have all my text convos synced/have parity between my browser and my phone. So when I get home and open up the laptop everything I did on my phone that day is just there.

I don't have a link but it's called GV Phone extension / GV SMS extension in Cydia. You input your real phone number in its settings and once installed, it will use your GV number to send and receive all texts and mask outgoing calls under that number, too. It will do this through the regular phone/sms apps (or bitesms, if you use that).

Edit: I think they cost $3 or something through Cydia.

So then do you still get all the call screening stuff on the phone side? You just press like #3 or whatever, right?

I've never tried it, but I think so. I know you can still do recording of calls if you dial through GV using the extension.

What are some of the best cases for the iPhone 4 currently? I'm looking for something not to bulky.

My favorite is the Incase Snap Case. I have the smoke colored one. It's perfect, thin, light, snaps on, raised enough on the front, and gives me good grip.

Why? I've been using some android and wm7 phones with touch array of home buttons, and it's terrible compared iPhone's physical button. So easy to press by accident too. iPhone's home button does have a habit of collecting dust under it and being wonky due to that, so I can see that being worth complaining about. But when it works the way it should, it's so much better.

Plus I imagine for troubleshooting reasons and freezing act having a physical home button makes things much easier. I'd like to keep it.

So are you using 5.0 or os4 still?
I have so many questions! Does it interfere with imessage?

Holy, this thread turned into crap. Who really gives a shit about how well Apple is doing, how well Google is doing. Those companies don't give a shit about you. You're not even arguing about the benefits of the phones you use, you're arguing business, of which you should have no concern. Unless you own stock or the company is in such trouble that it threatens your products, stfu. Even if you own stock, no one gives a shit about your puny five figure portfolio.

How about you not tell people what they are allowed to discuss in a discussion forum? Are you a mod? If not, maybe you should ask yourself if you should stop acting like the worst mod ever.

Discussing the profitability of the product line that is very subject of this thread is perfectly-valid subject matter. So is discussing it's place in the competitive marketplace.

If you don't like a post, ignore it. It's not hard. And it doesn't require you getting all bent out-of-shape and acting like a little dictator trying to tell people to stfu because you can't just skip a few posts.

Is it possible to plug an iPhone into a USB slot and manage files and folders and drag and drop mp3 files into the phone and use them for ringtones and what not?

I can do this on my RAZR but wanted to make sure there isn't any Apple bullshit preventing this feature from being possible.

If the iPhone 5 comes out in September, when do you think iPhone 4 will get a price reduction? Day one? My 3GS is barley holding on.
Should be day one at least but I don't know if in the past they dropped it a little earlier.

My 3G is dying slowly, and I'm pretty desperate for when the 5 shows up.

Give it a rest, champ.

As for physical home button, there are already three other physical buttons for troubleshooting. The home button should just be turned into a gesture area. I would be so happy. Difficult to imagine multi touch gestures on such a tiny area, though. Seems more like iPad stuff.

Re: screen size, I think it's something that is inevitable. A slight increase might be important considering most of the other handsets use larger screens. I'd be fine with it - and look forward to it - as long as it doesn't get too crazy.

That said, the iPhone 4 size is pretty great. Screen size increase is only appealing for me because I use a lot of video streaming apps.

Is the iPad Camera Connection Kit officially compatible with an iPhone 4?

If not, is there any way to get it work that doesn't involve jailbreaking?

So wait, do I have to pay for Google Voice texting? I can set it up using a Jailbreak app that it sends my GV texts to my texting app? And I give out my Google Voice number, right?

I'm getting iPhone 5 so I'm trying to figure this out. If I can do something like this and save myself the money, that'd be awesome. I'm switching from my mom's plan to my dad's plan so I won't get to keep my number anyway AFAIK and I don't want to pay to keep it anyway, I'm fine with getting a new one, so if I have to give out a GV number it's cool with me.

No, GV texting is free. The extension, which you buy in Cydia, replaces your ATT number with your GV number and all outgoing/incoming texts are free.

Oh Jesus. If you could just take your own advice, this forum would be a better place. Everytime I see you post you're elbow-deep in a a semantical argument about bullshit.

Anyway, this is all very exciting now. MacRumours is as once-a-day visit nowadays just to see if any further info has leaked. Cannot wait! My 3GS is begging to be thrown from a moving vehicle.

I've heard not to expect anything in August because it's one of the worst times to launch a product. I think games/game consoles follow the same general rule.

What is the speculation on the "upcoming product transition" Apple referred to during their last conference call?

I have a feeling they are referring to the iPod line in some way since they pushed the iPhone announcement to the time which traditionally been reserved for iPod/iTunes, but it seems crazy to speculate that they might be discontinuing any of their iPod lines...
