Exactly. I don't carry any cash anywhere at all either, just having my creditcards, with no money on em' actually. But just being able to transfer from my account to my card through my bank (can already do that) and then use the very same phone to pay with, would be fantastic. I have been thinking of installing a NFC lock to my main door at the apartment, so I can use my iPhone as the key through NFC, but it would be a much better solution having it build into the phone.

Hasn't the Japanese been using NFC technology to pay for things from their cell phones since the late 90s?

Absolutely. I just got an iPhone 4 instead of waiting for the 5. It's an incredible phone now and still will be when the 5 comes out.
Which is why I'll be getting a white iPhone 4 vs the iPhone 5. With iOS 5, my phone now does everything I need it to.

Hopefully the iPhone 5 brings with it a battery that doesn't take forever to get back to usage mode after being dead and charging. Literally take 30-60min to get back up and running...

What?

Most its takes is like 5 minutes for me, sometimes it will start back up right away.

that's not typical iPhone behavior.

How long does your battery usually last? It might be a dud.

Ugh, just noticed that my phone's screen was making a clicking sound every time I pressed down on the right side of the screen. Popped it out of the case and realized that the screen was becoming delaminated. I don't suppose a call to ATT about a defect is going to help now, seeing how I bought the phone at launch right?

Apple Store may be more lenient. Doesn't matter if you bought it from somewhere else.

Hi. I am a fresh iP4 user and I have some question about a battery.

My phone stats for now are:

-Usage: 2 hours (some Infinity Blade, 2 sms's, 4 calls)
-Standby: 13 hours
-Battery Percentage 69%
-Egde and 3G turned off

So my questions are: Is it a normal and decent battery life for an iPhone 4? Friends told me, that I should get a lot more from battery in it. One even claims that he charges his iPhone once every 3 days and YET he has 3g turned on all the time. Is he full of shit? Or is my battery screwed?

I know that 3g drains battery a lot. But what about Edge (Cellular Data in Settings)? Is it safe to turn it off or should it always be on?

Oh, and I don't have JB.

Well, it is a 3GS if that changes things that drastically. I charge it up every night usually it goes down to about 20% by the time I get into bed, and it lasts me all day with most usually texts, Facebook, and twitter going most of the day. Likes to die on me when it is between 2-5% battery left..

Does jailbreaking impact battery life? (iPhone 4)

Not by itself

Not unless you later install jailbreak tweaks that can impact battery life. things that can run apps in the background without the limitations that Apple imposes on a stock install.

those things will impact battery life.

Kinda in a position where I need a smartphone by the end of this week, so no chance at an iPhone 5. Is the iPhone 4 still a good investment at this point? Think I can still get at least 2 years out of it before these dual/quad/whatever-core phones take over the app space?

What is the easiest way to unlock an iPhone4? And what kind of SIM would you need to put it in when traveling internationally?

Wife needs this info. She doesn't care about jailbroken stuff, she just wants to put in another SIM and be able to update to 5 with no hassles when the time comes.

If you have no choice then yes.

It runs perfectly fine for me and should last you a good while before it seems 'old'. Best phone available in my opinion.

Yeah, go for it

Have you thought about buying a cheap unlocked smartphone and then switching to the iPhone 5 whenever that comes out?

Assuming she has an iPhone 4 with updated software she is pretty much out of luck when it comes to unlocking her phone.

As for what sim she would need if she had an unlocked phone, that would be any micro-sim or a regular mini sim cut down to size.

Also, in regards to upgrading to iOS 5, one thing i've learned is that unlocking your iPhone and upgrading it's OS is always full of hassles. I do it because I don't want to buy a second phone for when I travel and I spend months out of the year in other countries but for the average person it's probably too much of a pain.

If you have the money to blow you could just buy an unlocked iPhone 4 from Apple. Something I will seriously consider if they offer that option on the 5.

Hey guys, need some tips. Friend of mine has an iPhone that she hasn't bothered syncing with her laptop for a long time. So long that now the laptop is dead. She's got a new laptop now, is there any way for her to sync the phone to the new computer without losing the contents of her phone?

She'll have to manually pull the files off her phone, because iTunes doesn't let you transfer files from the phone to the PC, unless they are purchased through the iTunes store.

It's a pain in the arse. Try SharePod, which I found pretty useful. It's free.

So I'm thinking about heading down to the apple store tomorrow and picking up a white 32gb iPhone 4 (I'm already in a contract and my phone broke). Do you think I should wait for the iPhone 5? I'm just worried it'll be an iPhone 3GS situation, where the iPhone 4 doesn't run smoothly next year when the iPhone 5 is out.

Does she still have the old laptop? If so she can pop the old hard drive out and hook it up as an external drive to her new laptop. If she can do that she can transfer the files to her new iTunes setup. I've had to do it for computer upgrades before. Painful but still doable.

iPhone 4 on the iOS 5 builds seem to run pretty well.

I think you should wait. I think it is 3-5 weeks away from reveal. And the cases that have been leaking out seem to indicate there are big changes.

I'm just going to guess that they will try to do something big since they took an extra 3 months more than normal to launch.

You gotta wait now. At the very least, you could get the iPhone 4 at a nice discount once the 5 is released

Huh? I don't remember that happening and I had an 3G and a 3GS...

Are you buying unlocked or are you re-upping your contract? Why don't you just buy an iPhone from Craigslist to use while you wait for the 5 to come out?

I need a phone before school starts. I'll be at a new university and I'll be sharing the car with my dad. I'll need a cell phone to co-ordinate this all. :P

I have decided to make the plunge to 4.
I am travelling Canada next week, so i was thinking of buying a unlocked 4 there (im coming from europe)

Anyplace that I should go in Ottawa for the best deal?

I still have the backup folder with itunes regularly backed up to. I had left it on another partition (NTFS symbolic linking), so it was intact when C: crashed. Is there any way of importing this backup into itunes?. I've checked but theres no way of importing that I know of.

That's going to be a long wait... D:

Should I just buy a Samsung Galaxy S II and get an iPhone 6 or whatever when the 2 years left in my contract end? Ugh.
Get a cheap temporary one.

Yes you can. There are guides for this but the gist is if you just move all the files into the right spot, iTunes will just think that all the data is in place and you can then use the new computer.

Twitterriffic got updated with a killer feature for me. I figure I’d bring it up in here since I use twitter most on my phone.

it now supports the tweet marker function to keep your timeline position synced across all devices. so I can be scrolling on the iPhone, put it down and get to the ipad a little while later and continue where I was exactly. and then move on from there to twitterrific on the Mac and get the same marker as was on the ipad and keep reading. no more unnecessary scrolling to see where I last left off.

hell yeah.

I know osfoora does something similar to this but the apps are not as nice to use and, in my tests, the sync feature was not as reliable as the tweet marker feature is now.

and I also figure that other apps will use this tweet marker feature soon but, for now, twitteriffic is first up and it works very nice. and it seems like it’s not limited to the pro version. should work on the free version.

Does anyone know how long "erase all contents and settings" takes on an iPhone 4? Mine's been running for over a hour so far and it was less than half full.

It took forever when I did an iPad once. Not sure why cuz another time it was quick.
