The iPhone 4 |OT|

Am I the only one that needs to sync the iPhone like 5 times before it finishes copying everything over to the computer?

This usually happens when I haven't backed up for a while, I've noticed.

I can't tell if I'm being trolled... :lol

Apple ran out of known features that should have been implemented in the first place, where else are they going to get more ideas from?

I've convinced myself for the last year that I'd be able to resist the iPhone 5 and wait for the 6, but if the 8MP camera is true, I may have to spring for it as soon as I can upgrade.

The iPhone 4 with its 5MP camera has already replaced my little Canon point 'n shoot.

If a Wednesday passes without an invite going to the press, scratch out the following week as being possible for an iPhone launch.

Moving it away from WWDC also has one negative--less foreign press are able to go on one week's notice, whereas WWDC gives press about 3 months or so.

What would we want a gesture based home button to actually do, anyways?
As a former Palm Pre owner, I can tell you that gesture area > button.

Think: unlocking your phone with one swipe across the bottom of the device. You wouldn't do this accidentally; it never happened to me.

Imagine interacting with apps without obscuring the screen with your thumbs. webOS did this amazingly. You could scroll the web browser, and never accidentally activate links.

Gesture Area >>>>> Button

Oh yeah, this happens to me too. I can't really explain it. It seems to happen randomly.

Apple must be planning something big to build up all this anticipation. The new iPods had already been announced by this time last year.

wouldn't it be cool if you had a giant "gesture area" on TOP of the screen. meaning you could like touch and interact with the screen? oh wait.

I got my iPhone 4 a few weeks ago and I'm wondering what the best web browser on the market is. I can't stand Safari at all.

I've used the free version of Atomic Browser and it wasn't bad. I've also messed around with iCab on another iPhone and liked it as well.

Out of curiosity, what do you not like about Safari?

Most people say iCab. Skyfire for the rare occasions you need Flash.

I'm okay with Safari for most purposes.

I don't like that I can't set my own homepage. I came over from the OG Droid and I've been spoiled by the browsers on Android. Really wish Apple would let Opera release Opera Mobile (not mini), I loved that browser on Android. Safari is just to barebones for me.

Dream, I had no idea Dolphin was released on iOS, going to have to give it a shot.

Macrumors got another case:

Longer, wider, but thinner.

These comments were also interesting:

By late July, a purported design document for the iPhone 5 surfaced and began to make its way to third-party case manufacturers, who apparently placed enough faith in its accuracy to begin making cases based on the design.

Based on that same design document, we commissioned a set of renderings in an attempt to get an idea of what the iPhone 5 might look like. Our designer took measurements of this imaginary device using the dock port as a standard measurement and produced the document shown above. Based on that extrapolation, the iPhone 5 design should have had dimensions of 4.33" x 2.36", suggesting a shorter but only slightly wider design. In comparison, the iPhone 4 dimensions are 4.5" x 2.31".

What we can't explain, however, is that the actual third-party cases circulating are significantly longer and wider than what the design document would have suggested.

I wouldn't be happy if Apple made it significantly longer and wider i.e. bigger just for a 4" screen with no change in resolution and a tapered thinner model. I'd much prefer this:

Perhaps the cases are for the iPhone 4S/iPod Touch 3G and the design document and photostream icon is for the iPhone 5?

Has anyone had any experiences with changing their black iPhone to a white one through a repair shop or the like? I'm considering getting this done and was wondering if there's a lot of risk involved in it.

Maybe Apple are just fucking around with bogus prototypes to try to find their leak in the supply chain. See also: Asteroid.

my main broadband line is down and was wondering, is it possible to connect to xbox live through tethering on my iphone4? i dont have the xbox near me yet so i was just wondering if it was possible

If your Xbox has Wifi, you can just setup a Personal Hotspot and use that.

It's suck shit for actually playing online though.

I think the problem with making it smaller (and thinner) is that the internal components (including the battery) would have to get smaller as well. It's already so condensed.

My iPhone 2G died yesterday :(... when is the Apple conference of september?
Also, can we expect them to sell it factory unlocked, like they're doing now with the iPhone 4?

Is it me or does that rough iphone 5 case look like it has a slight angle going on? like the top half is slightly thicker then the bottom half.

I know it means nothing really but it would be interesting, I prefer it flat though.

Apple managed it with the iPad 2 (shrinking almost everything aside from the battery) so i'd hope they can pull off the same trick with the iPhone 5. That said, which would you prefer:
  • Smaller thinner device with the same battery life or
  • Exact same device as the iPhone 4—lousy antenna included—but with better processor, camera and 50% longer battery life?

I'd take the second option, the iPhone is already thin enough for me.

I hate that Apple cares so much about making the phone thinner to prove they can make it thinner. I'm a guy who wants my phone to be comfortable, not feel like a piece of paper. Plus the battery could be bigger if they didn't care so much about squeezing everything down.

I agree. The iPhone 4 is the perfect width, any thinner and it'll be hard to grasp as a phone. I'm also not a fan of tapered designs, so I hope those rumors are just that: rumors.

A screen is also for looking at, smartass! :P

Way to not glean anything useful from my post!

So glad we are getting a late iPhone 5 launch so that I only have to finish up 8 months of a contract instead of 12, gadget lust is the worst.

edit: 'Entertainement', really?

Safari gaining Reader in iOS5 will be the best thing.

Instapaper works great in the meantime.

And I don't want a thinner iPhone, the 4 is already awkward enough to hold in double thumb gaming situations.

I've become a Read it Later person, myself.

That, combined with Reeder (which uses Readability, which is offers the best reading experience) makes Instapaper obsolete on my iOS devices.

Tell me about it. Right now i am thinking of calling AT&T to ask about my ETF and maybe see if i can switch to sprint for the iphone 5.

I'd like to do the same but my contract with two iPhones isn't up until June, so the ETF would be too high. Going to be hard to not have the new iPhone if I decide to wait.

Am I the only one who thinks iPhone 4 has the perfect design for a phone?

Personally I preferred the curved edges of the older models to the iPhone 4, it just doesn't feel as comfortable to hold. I hope they bring them back à la the current iPod Touches.

If that case is to believed, they aren't really making it thinner for the sake of being thinner, because it is compensating for added width and length. It might be just as heavy.

No you aren't the only one, it is perfect in size and weight and it's the most beautiful design i've ever seen for a tech gadget
I think it's the first iPhone to have the famous apple premium design the other two are so...normal

I think it could have used a bit more of the real estate in the front for the screen. The top and bottom are a bit chunky. Other than that it's perfect

iP4 is perfect for me when it comes to design and used materials, but I don't really like the lock button. It'd doesn't feel very solid in my model.

The lock buttons on the previous models were far worse.

That's by design. The iPhone buttons are awfully bad, they fail very often, to make you buy a new iPhone next year.
