The King Of Fighters XIII - Console version detailed

CadetMahoney said:
I was talking to a friend and we agreed not only a color edit for the characters but the actual effects. . . fireballs, neomaxes. . . colour edits for those.

I would be like

Wasn't something like that in 98UM PS2? I think I remember at least one of the games having a color edit for the effects.

Nope, that's what I mean! I remember seeing it mentioned about why they don't have catalogues on PSN. I don't know all the details, however, as I don't own a PS3, so I don't keep up with it all.

That was the article, actually.

Has something changed since then? *shrug*

Ah, so it doesn't apply to SSFIV. As far as Capcom goes, that sort of thing was accounted for in the original SFIV, same with the original MvC3. If it's new data instead of just being locked on the disc, that might be why. Admittedly, I passed on following SFIV beyond the original, so it was my mistake for thinking that sort of thing was already patched in like it is in other games that introduce new skins/outfits/characters.

EDIT: In respect to Arc and BBCS, none of the data for the DLC characters was there beyond artwork and theme music. All of the essentials needed to make them playable had to be patched in, hence why even people who didn't buy them could see them online. In regards to the timeframe issue Capcom brought up, the last of the DLC characters for BBCS was released nearly a year after the game launched.

Yep on 98um on ps2 you could edit everything even supers.
I waste so much time giving Athena sky blue and pink fireballs lol.

A note to those attending SVB 20XI:

Please make sure to try both strengths of a move, when using them! Like at Otakon, I figured out that Hwa has 2 variations of his Dragon Breaker (command throw distance, and leaping throw distance), and that Yuri has 2 versions of her Hyakuretsu Binta (command throw, and dashing) now, depending on button pressed. These were changes from the arcade version.

So please check to make sure things such as Clark's SAB DM, Robert's Command Throw, or Leona's Earring Bakudan, don't have different button variations! SNKP seems to be trying to modify button strengths to give characters a better moveset (Such as with Clark's Autogard Argentine Back Breaker), so now that we know that, make sure to keep it in mind while testing!

Looking forward to seeing new vids from the casual play today!

Takuma:
- qcf + D: has autogaurd properties
- qcf + D: can nullify fireballs
- db, f + D: seemed to beat small jumping attacks quite well

K':
- j.D: much slower
- qcf + A/C: definitely feels slower with more startup
- qcb + B/D: seems like it moves quicker because I kept doing the second qcb + D too fast thinking the first qcb + D has hit

Clark:
]- hcf + B: has at least to hit auto guard, we all lol'ed when we saw it absorb Maxima's close st.C twice

Time was very limited due to me having to judge and loads of people trying it for the first time but I suppose the console version is just around the corner now.

Been playing a lot of the beta test ver. of the console ver.

Mainly focus on yuri, kula & vice ( which is my team)

Yuri:

jump ;c hit box seems change, doesn't really hit anything above her upper body.

Hcb ;b is a command grab, ;d ver still the same, ex has less invincible frames

fwd ;a can be combo from ;c / ;d, which potentially good on corner
hd combo.

ex raiohken does less guard gauge dmg , like 10% now.

Vice:

jump ;c + ;d hit box is smaller.

Feels like Hcf ;b + ;d > c/d is much easier to do now.

Kula:

ex rayspin haven't got any invisible frames , still goes thru lows.
Think it still + f on block tho.

dp ;c hit box back to 2k2 ver.

hd combo is a bit different now.

so far that's all the change that I found .

k', raiden , liz are still good, but not as good as the old xiii

P1 is called "rio"/

some pics later on today

in the tutorial menu it starts off like "Walk forward" *walks* Achievement unlocked. . . :-| (or something).

I appreciate an in depth tutorial, even if it goes back to complete basics. I hate missing out on minor systems in a fighting game because they weren't explained properly.

It'll also help my friends to get into the game when they come over to play.

It's always nice to have something over nothing. Hopefully they have some combo challenges and the ones they pick are the BnB's that are useful/ones you WILL use in a fight.

Clark autoguard KOF XIII console version SVB 2011 (Ahhh, going to be so fun to abuse!)

Tutorial Mode KOF XIII console version SVB 2011 (Hi Rose! Why are you teaching in Sakazaki Dojo?!?)

Elizabeth Alternate Costume KOF XIII console version SVB 2011 (Just for Fersis, right?)
1P vs Cristina KOF XIII console version SVB 2011 (Chou Uppah!)
What you talkin' about kiddo? * Pulls up pants *

Clark's autogaurd looks sooo fun to play with.

Btw. I remember someone talked about Maxima's Way to get meter with backdash -> j.qcb.A/C. Was it confirmed to not be in the console version?

Aye, even though it'll be a bit basic for many of us, I agree, better to start off basic, then start off too in depth! If KoF XIII helps ease neophites into fighters in general, that's 1 more reason for a casual player to pick the game up, "You, this'll even teach you how to play Street Fighter and Mahhhvel bettah!"

Fersis said:

*innocent whistling* Is it bad that I can never see "Kid!" or "Kiddo!" without thinking about SF1's Sagat's vocal victory quote?

Man i am loving all the changes they are making to the home version .
Much agreed. I expecially love it when depth is given to an existing moveset; watching individual presses get more unique uses, or watching an accute adjustmeent of move properties. As little as I play BB, I also appreciate how much variety they give the same moves, but with different button presses.

The autoguard is such a funny, but effective change. Should help bring back his on-wakeup mixup potential, which I'm rather happy about.

I attempted the Maxima gauge trick myself, but without arcade experience, I can't say I was doing it RIGHT, to test it. (Might have been too ealy, of course.) I've rarely even seen American players attempt it (or to play Maxima), so hopefully, we can get some concrete testing on this during the JP demo setup events in Japan!

----

I had an odd dream, where more info on XIII was revealed... Raiden had a "LOL Raiden!" Variation (ultimate troll character), that walked all upright, and slurching forward... he was animated as if he was drunk/high, with a very blitzed look about him. The game also revealed Yamazaki (who became more insane as his charged his snake arm move... at max charge, he's whip his arm in an arch, while going insane), and some messed up "Clone Ryo" form, who looked as if he just jumped out the cloning vats, and wanted to fight... but had a gut! (I blame exibitionist Saiki for this!)

Upon waking... I was sad to see at least Yama wasn't real, lol.

Ah, I see. Here's to hoping it's still there!

EDIT: ^ Sounds creepy if you ask me.

It was pretty creppy, lol. On Maxima's meter charge... well, guess we could whiff his command throw, if they take away hop-back vapor charging, at least!

 I think it's pretty good that I've only had 1 or 2 KoF dreams over all this time! (And Yamazaki looked awesome! XD)

Good luck at Southtown! If Kim is on your side, do not worry, for JUSTICE will be with you!

Came in second place on my pool today in SVB. Christina was too good :D And i was mainly just mashing random attacks. Ralf still rules!

today:

ccl plays bublan
2pac plays cristina

£300 prize, no second place prize. CCL will probably win it today.

I'm pumped for more KoF13 today from haunts' stream. I've been getting more practice in so hopefully when the real deal drops in October I can not be totally free until everyone figures out how to play in a week after it drops. :P

I think Kensou might be the most slept on character in the game.

You know what my main problem with this game is? Too many fucking characters are fun to play and just flow well to execute combos. Total opposite of SF4 for me where I think C.Viper looks awesome, then my fat fingers get a hold of the stick and just derp it up unable to do her SJC combos and shit.

Gonna be hard to settle on a team, but it lets me play around with everyone from now till October so I can hopefully narrow it down to only a handful.

good day, kim is coming along. got some blah blah drive cancel combo into ff + a into super. gave me a boner.

kyo is doing better but havign a hard time comboing off of DF. D. :( i feel like my overall pressure game is better with jump D and jump down C.

k' is k'

i felt like kim was the weak link for a while but I feel like he is my strongest character now. playing k' first, then kyo and kim last. I burn meter like crazy with kim.

another edit here: how do you deal with maximas super armor in this game? and how about raidens green spit? I tend to rushdown like crazy in this game and get lit up by both these moves pretty bad.

i love this game becuase there are so many characters that are interesting to play. SF4 isnt like that for me. only a handful of the characters are interesting...like there is no way id ever play vega or blanka or even balrog..

really cant wait for console so ill have more time to mess around with others. right now just working on team white power so i dont get blown up as bad.

More footage from SvB 2011

@Haunts: Maxima super armor is a fundamental part of his style so i would recommend to learn which moves and frames he has with super armor and bait the hell out of him. LOLZ
Dunno about Radien green spit since i havent played XIII yet >__<
Hey Haunts does Kim has his f+B overhead in XIII?

Oh and from watchin' these new vids im 100% sure that they tonned down the blur filter.
Its so damn good looking its offensive.

Thanks for the links to the Tourney vids, Fersis. Those weren't as bad as they could have been! Just about each fight had someone who obviously had prior KoF / XIII knowledge, which is always good.

Watchin' them off Kusogaki's blog is the way I caught em: http://kof-uk.blogspot.com/2011/08/super-versus-battle-20xi-kofxiii.html

Maxima's Super Armor (Often called "Guard Point" or "Autoguard") is a bit trick to deal with. Rarely-used but entirely-effect strats to dealing with it:

  • Cancel/Super Cancel into a move with invincibility. He'll whiff, you'll take the hit.
  • Cancel into a command throw. Since a Guarded blow (in this case) still counts as a "hit", you can combo into command throws (So say, Kyo's EX HCB+k) as if the first his actually landed normally. It's a pretty jerky thing to do.
But the number one trick to deal with Maxima's GP's:
  • Hit him low. No Guard point down there, and his GP moves normally have slow startup.

As far as dealing with Raiden's posion spit... Much like Maxima's Vapor Cannon, if someone is locking you down between hits and that move... You can probably jab him out of it, to stop his flow. And of course, invincible reversals.

If you can, roll through him, or hyper jump over him, too.

With your characters, I'd probably stand out of range, and punish him with things like Kim's (Stand B-> f,f+A) or Sweep, K' sweep, possible Blackout (teleport) past it (The invisible portion should go through it), and Kyo's df+D, and full jump dwn+C.

Yeah, I'll always love that about KoF. I like playing loads of characters in fighters anywho, so it fits my sensibilities perfectly. SNKP's pretty good (for me) at making you feel like SOMEONE in their office loves the character you're playing, and made sure to give them solid tools, and make them fun to use.

Similar, but not quite. That's Saika, the one they gave him starting in '01. His super from '00 was its own standalone attack, but the way Saika works is to act as an extender for Ya Otome (you have to put in the 4x QCF+AC motion just as it ends).

In KOF 00 Iori got a new awesome Super (Kinda useless though) thats the one im talking about not the Ya Otomoe follow up.
The command was QCFx2+P (Not QCFx4+P)

Ah, I stand corrected. Though I knew which one you were referring to, I hadn't noticed they gave him both for XIII...for some reason (not sure why they did, I would've much rather had Reverse Talon Comb from '99 back).

Worked on some new tech for Terry/Benimaru today. Found an EX corner cancel that's ridiculous with Beni, if I ever get in the situation to pull it off though.

Fersis said:

(^_^) Yup, Exactly!... (O.O;) No No, think Older and Shorter! I'm always impressed with how solid random characters can turn out in KoFl characters who'd be almost an afterthought to other companies.

I don't even like Momoko that much, but the attention they payed to her moveset in XI was suprisingly solid.

I also found it very suprising they gave Shingo his own critical hit system, lol. It didn't make any sense that he'd have something so exclusive! And then Counter Wire was introduced later on, and pouncing enemies off walls with counter VAPOR KANNUNNNNS was so satisfying... And then seeing things like OTG throws and earthquakes with Goro back in games like 98, when I never remembered anything like that back in the day...

There's just suprising, unique stuff all around, and it's always impressed me how much uniqueness they can pull out of such large cast.

Speaking of such things, here's a Beijing-born set of Match vids from the arcade version:

http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XMjk0MTc2OTA4.html

(Thanks to a11111357 on DC for the link) It actually has some solid Goro play, in the very first set. Really makes you wonder why so many people are sleeping on him... (I enjoyed much of what I saw of him back during the Technical References...)

Looking forward to seeing many attempts of this on the next stream ^_^ Considering how little Beni one sees, it'd be great to once again, teach everyone to "UnderSTAND?!?" (Beni's engrish is almost as epic as Terry's!)

i hate to be "that guy" but i wish there was more coordination with whoever handles media/recording at these KOFXIII events so we could get direct feed footage. dont get me wrong i love the efforts of people using cams to get footage, its just more on SNK Playmore to be getting HD footage out of the game. could only do more for promoting the game imo.

Well, when the Japanese arcade version came out, there was the "Road to SBO!" Stuff being done over a few weeks, as well as the ebjTV tournaments at that time.

But I agree, I wish we had more (though Atlus and Rising Star bringing the game to Tourney's and Conventions is also fantastic.) Maybe SNKP will set up somthing to record vids from the Japanese Demo Units, or contact some top players to give some special exibitions?

Really, it's not. This game has just as much, if not more, time and effort put into it as almost any other fighter released on home consoles this generation. You'll find that most in here believe $50 to be very reasonable, as we were mostly expecting $60.

If you can really look at the opening post to this thread, take in all those details, and think this is a 30 dollar game... well, you must be in the wrong thread or something!
