The King Of Fighters XIII - Console version detailed

KOF13 story goes back to 2003. If you look at the entire picture its kinda cool.
But to each their own. ^__^-d

All I'm gonna say is Time Paradox... at least I think that's what they wrote in a subtitle during one of the cut scenes to 13.

My brain was full of fuck. Too messy of a story to give a shit. As far as stories in a fighter go no one has done it better than MK9 did. They took the time to actually craft a plausible story, and while it may not be the most Inception thought provoking story of all time, it made sense and was told well.

KoF13 didn't even do crazy Japanese like something say Bayonetta. KoF13 just came across as mad ramblings. This could be due to the bad localization in the arcade version so its lacking proper translation/context/etc.

The things said between fighters before rounds is fine, and win screen quotes can range from dumb to slightly humorous, so they got that part done at the same level as a Street Fighter. It's just that the rest of what goes on in the full blown cut scenes is going to be completely lost on newcomers to the franchise/story, and to be quite honest probably won't make much/any sense to KoF players unless they are doing some hardcore google fu to make sense of it all.

But yes, to each his own. ;)

Are you seriously using Bayonetta as an example of better... Anything? Even KOF Neowave had better writing than Bayonetta.

Time
Paradox

Bayonetta has better story than any game that just throws in gates that connect two worlds and time paradoxes at a whim... just cuz. Go look up the KoF13 cut scenes which are only a few from arcade version if you haven't seen them.

Edit: I used Bayonetta as an example of a GOOD crazy Japanese story. It's crazy yeah, and fucked up, but in good fun, and doesn't take itself too seriously. KoF13 is dead serious and not good crazy.

You're judging the plot from just the arcade version. Of course it going to incomprehensible, Blazblue arcade was too.

Just wait until the console version, there are pictures that will show an introduction that will explain what is going on.

Right... I said I was judging the arcade story cut scenes, and I said that what is there probably could just use some context and better localizing.

I mean if the story mode that comes on disc was just THIS or they included this without more context then we have a problem.

However... they aren't going to drop time paradox and gates to other worlds/time lines/craziness, because that is some of the core shit in the story which is being dead serious. It's a thing where hopefully they can find good cut scenes to make w/e character it is you go through the story with have some seriousness to what is going on. I have a feeling that may not be the case, since the arcade chatter scenes before rounds is light hearted stuff. I hope to be proven wrong though as it's weird to have a build up of goofiness and just for funsies all of the sudden have an atom bomb of serious shit thrown in lol. :P

Either way story doesn't matter. Good fighting, great characters, and solid online is what counts to me. :)

His distanced C seems to hit 2 hits now, and he can apparently cancel bis B, D target combo now. Sounds like he can even link a 2 hit C after a crouching A now...

This really does seem to be Andy's game. Find it kinda funny that he and Robert seem to really be trying to totally outclass the "Ryu's" to their "Ken".

AAAAAAAAANDYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! <3

That is all.

(Total Bro-mo).

The story sequences for arcade are no worse or weirder than the ones in KoF XI. We've had LOADS of these things since 94, it's par the course, except better animated and in higher resolutions now.

Saiki sends his subordinates to do stuff, they fail, come end of tourney time, he absorbs Magaki to boost his own power, takes things into his own hands, fails, goes for one final gambit, and is defeated. It's perfectly serviceable for a fighting game story, and why shouldn't the cast be taking it seriously? I don't see much reason for it to goofy itself up for "the sake of being Japanese", it can take itself as seriously as any comic or Doctor Who style story that deals in such things.

When people refer to KoF having a great story, most of it has to do with scenes seen in the endings, and the manga, raido drama's, character CDs, and other games released that explain things in greater detail. In XIII, the story mode should do much of this, along with things like the team backstories on the official websites (which will probably be replicated in game, and are already in the Iphone game.)

For me, I'd probably find the fate of Magaki, and Ash's ending, to be the true interesting story moments from XIII arcade.

Is the Vita new official now, or just from that leaked list, so far? Sources people, sources! ^_^

So.. KOFXIII for Vita looks to be legit.

Source?

I don't know how I feel about this. On the one hand, sweet another platform to get sales for SNK, and if the Vita is able to do 1:1 with the PS3 version, then that's great for gamers on the go... if they don't use a fight stick I guess. xD

Curious about the details for sure.

The only source I've found so far is a "leaked" document that details VITA games to be revealed at Gamescon. There's no trailer up in the Playstation official Youtube channel, however.

This leaked list has also been mentioned on Madman's cafe, from what I've seen, so it seems to be THE source for this news, beyond that fake screenshot from the other day.

If anyone sees anything official, I'm sure they'll link to the proof in this tread! (^_^) Right? RIGHT?!?

Yeah i saw that leaked list.

Oh and lets be reasonable about the storylines...
The KOF Orochi Saga is better then Inception ,The Dark Knight and Black Swan altogether. COME AT ME BROS!!

Let me see...

Inception - highly overrated.

The Dark Knight - Two-Face dying and Brokeface Sister kill it.

Black Swan - no on-screen titties=failuretown.

I'm with you on this one, mang.

I don't want to sound like a douche, sorry if I do, but you should probably spoiler that in case someone who hasn't seen it reads.

The Ks were total Gary Stus or whatever the term is. K'9999 one shotting Iori? Come on. Oh and they killed Kasumi back in 96.

...It was amusing to read the summaries, there aren't any scanlations of these are there? Also, god damn they were slow, they were still doing the 2k3 story and barely starting XI while mixing it up with some 2k2UM with the XII comics.

I remember regularly visiting a site run by a guy from Singapore (Kofonline? Dunno, its been years) that used to translate those to English (summaries, not scanlations).

You too? XD

I asked Matsushita if the console version will have the 'novel' and team story like the iPhone version has.

So, Translated by Sharnt on DC, via Frionel at Gamescon:

The 2 unknow characters are DLC (it's whispering Rock is in)

SNK need rougly one year and 100k$ to create one character.

Japan pre order gift : Ex iori

Official :
The arcade update is just a consequence of SNK appreciation of the will from player to see a update arcade version.
If players, kof community shows this will to have a arcade update they will do a update.

He says part of the reason Frionel is there, is to demonstrate KoF XIII with Rising Star Games. He plans to try and write patch notes for every character in the game, from this.

So, should be some interesting info coming... somehow... hopefully.

They need 365 days and $100,000 dollar per character they make? Da fuck?

zlatko: Well, remember, we've heard 13 months worth of time before. Thinking about how much it cost to pay the couple of artist it takes to work on a character of this detail level... *shrug*

I personally wonder how much variation there is in all this, however. Like does it take them less time to make a Chin-sized character, than someone like Raiden? Do they save time and resources making a character like Billy, who lacks a really complex stance animation, but makes up for it in move animation, or is it all about the same to them?

It was kinda nice getting to see Ignition visit the SNKP officies during the time of XII, it'd be cool to get an even more in-depth visit again.

_dementia: I really never mind the announcement of DLC pre-release. It's not like these ideas just pop into their heads one day, or that they aren't being developed before a game releases.

It would (will?) slightly annoy me more if they show really complete previews of the character, like... 2 months before release, however. But I acutally like knowing that companies plan to support a game's release, rather than waiting months to find out if I can expect more or not...

I'd rather have Geese, but I know Rock is more popular.

Wonder who the other char is, hopefully it's someone who fits in with Billy and Rock.
