Is it safe to assume a character reveal is likely?

They still have a total of 5 characters to reveal right? Game is due for October 25th in NA, so they need to start that drip of hype.

I really don't expect anything NEW at that point, not of the style of a chara reveal, anywho.

SNKP, Atlus, and Rising Star all seem to have their own level of reveals. The PAX demo will still likely have the same features as Otakon and EVO. Japan has just unveiled Iori wit dat power der flames at their test, which are at least booked till early Sept. Rising Star's seemed to have more slowdown bugs than any other demo, but also let us look at more features (like alternative music tracks).

Would be happy with new Atlus Character Trailers, mass website update, and maybe a trailer detailing Online, Story mode, or balance changes...

Thats how we roll. (Though the console version has a better filter than the arcade)

* Fist bump *

Filter options were in every ps2 Kof released + XII. Suddenly not having it would be unexplainable.

Most ps2 and some psx kofs had also color edit but we live in an age where you have to buy colors. (Most retarded thing this generation. Buying colors - I can't comprehend that at all.)

Isn't color edit confirmed for XIII?

I don't know. I'm just mat at some money munching companies.(Looking at you ArcSystems)
Color edit is confirmed for KOFXIII... in the disc without buying DLC!!

Pft. All I know is that I'm not exactly looking forward to those who want to have all-black characters and what-not. Got enough of that back during CvS2. :lol

Please note that the Color Edit mode appears to:

  • Offer a limited selection of colors TO START WITH. You can see this on images of the Color Edit mode on the main menu.
  • Offer specific unlockable colors. There seems to be a wide selection, but they seem to be made with some relation of throught. Unlockable colors are hinted at with the "star" beside certain colors on shots of the menus.

We can assume that these measure are taken to avoid stupid things like sans-panty Yuri or Full-Flesh Raiden.

It'll still be possible to make some really annoying, garish colors, I'm sure. But they've got some element of control over this, to limit some of the absolute freaky stuff.

Well, after the 3rd Strike clusterfuck THANK GOD that SNK won't be using GGPO for KOF13.

Wait what? 3SOE has bad netcode? I bought it and played with it a bit but I haven't went online yet, how bad is it? Better than SSF4 at least?

Thats crazy!! Theyre locking colors to avoid NSFW-like stuff?

Honestly, my laggier connections in SF3 have been much worse than my laggier connections in SSF4 AE. The ones that were good and smooth were on par with SSF4 AE's good connections.

The bigger issues are with the matchmaking, which is 100% a turd.

It's not that it's BAD. But stuff like matchmaking and action-rewind lag, along with glitching sound effects and music, isn't what everyone expected.

Also, many expect GGPO to extend the viability of online play with a wider target of players. Experiences with 3SOE reveal different: Bad connections are STILL bad connections, so it's not a 100% answer.

I do wonder if a lot of this can be smoothed out by using the GGPO delay feature, but not sure if many know, or care, to use these features.

Well, you've seen the same pics and vids I have, lol. You can tell it's not just a bunch of RGB sliders and gradient fills. I'd like to see more to be 100% sure of it all, but it looks like they're actually trying to make a solid color editing tool, rather than just tossing a messy one in there.

This could turn out different, but I kinda hope not, lol. Let the lazy color edits stay in the past, lets see some well-formed, useable color edits that actually make people TRY, now.

Soul Calibur IV and III already did this, BTW. They restricted certain colors from being used on certain parts...

Only problem is that my connection appears to be good in SF4, MK9, T6, VF5 360, BB but suddenly it's sooo bad in SF3. Yeah, blame shitty connections.

Dear Atlus and Rising Star Games:

Please show us color edit mode footage.

Actually... Since the sprites aren't at 100% or 200%, and that means they have pixel-doubling... And the arcade version had blurring to hide that... I wouldn't be so sure about a no filter option this time.

All the little glitching, to me, is much more indicative of "low quality emulation" than the input delay of other products, though. On a personal level, this is what I hate of PC gaming on older PCs, that I feel I leave behind when I play consoles.

GGPO has always been sold as that "makes play VS other countries playable!" Netcode, so it's awkward to suddenly not be able to play solidly with people who are just a state or so over.

It's going through a LOT without all the port-opening and such that the PC version requires, though, so it just might have to grow a bit.

Yup, I wished I coulda messed with it at Otakon, but never knew the menu screens were accessable till like, 20 min before close, lol.

I'm suprised Frionel and the rest of the eLive people didn't mess with it!

Yeah, I'm wondering about this a bit myself. I REALLY wish someone would just go to the options screen and record stuff now.

If there is a no filter option, you probably aren't going to like the results. Arcana Heart 3 has a no-filter option, and while its sprites are far less detailed than KOF13's, they're drawn at similar sizes -- as in, for 640x480 display. Scaling from that to 720p isn't a clean doubling, so if you don't filter them at least a little, it ends up looking really, really bad.

Ah, I see.

Couldn't they have a separate 640x480 4:3 mode too as a fix? Isn't that what arcade AH3 runs at anyway?

It is at PAX at the Alist games booth behind Nintendo. The build of the game didn't seem to have Saiki or flaming Iori. Checked the options menu and there were no video related options. I asked the guy at the booth about Iori and he said he would be the first DLC character and he might be playable later today which was really weird. More updates later!

I hope the lack of video options is just for this build. I've never bought a Vaseline-only fighter, and wouldn't be happy starting now... 2D art is a good 30-40% of why I care about the genre...

Thanks Patrick ^_^ Try messing with color edit mode, if you can, too! Thanks for anything you manage to do.

Really, the game looks pretty great in person. The game doesn't look like it's being smoothed unreasonably, or made to look as if it's in any other style than "Pixel Art" during gameplay.

Like looking at this HQ offscreen vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtbN10aoKPc

I really feel they took just the right amount of measure to make the game appealing to pixel-heads, and peopel who don't want shimmering sharp blocks poking out their eye every time a character changes zoom. I was enjoying observing the TINY little pixels that make up Yuri's mouth, and the subtly jaggy edges that make up the characters all very well, while playing on a 50-inch monitor at Otakon. There was very little, if any, loss of detail to the pixel work, given the working resolution it's displayed at. Even the single Pixel that makes up Takuma's glowing red EYE in the Red Mr.Karate Tengu mask is perfectly crisp and easy to make out!

Is there no more medium jumps(the one with afterimage trailing you)? I only see small jumps, high jumps and super high jumps.
I'm not sure what you mean, but there are four jumps.

Hop, hyper hop, jump and super jump (not sure if the names are correct though).

EDIT: Please correct me if I'm wrong though. I'd hate to teach someone incorrectly. ^^'

I don't know what the correct term is either. In 98 it's higher than a hop, but lower than a traditional jump, and it has a special sound when you do it, as well as trail of afterimage.

The way I do to input is db to uf in circular motion but doesn't hold uf so it's not a super high jump (that jump has a special sound too).

SAB CA said:
Shadows used to trail after any "hyper" leap, wheither it be hops or jumps.

These shadows don't appear here (probably because they'd get confused with HD mode, among other things), but the jump types still remain.

You can still get hyper hops and jumps by db->uf, d->u, df->db, and by dashing before jumping.

I see, that explains it.

Normal jump = Just hold stick up/upforward/backup like you do in any fighter.

Super jump = hit down fast, then hold up/upforward/backup and you go farther/higher.

Short hop = hit up/upforward/back up on stick quickly and let go.

Hyper hop = hit down fast, then hit up/upforward/backup and let go of stick quick like in a short hop.

No offense but that's pretty terrible.

Kind of makes SNK fans look bad even.

Would you buy a Fartman fighter over Street Fighter if the gameplay was good?

Didn't think so.

You watch more B&W movies over current ones because the writing was better?

Didn't think so.

You never consider the artist when buying comics?

Yeah, you're a hypocrite.

So I'm pretty much sold on the game now but just don't know where to go from here. Is there an SRK-style website that exists for KoF that I could check for some reading ? Like how to familiarize myself with the mechanics, read up on characters available and so on ?

Since I won't have anybody around to play, on which platform will you guys play mostly ?

I'll be on 360, but I'm from Mexico so dunno how our connections would hold up.

Closest thing SNK fans have to SRK would be Dream Cancel I think.

No! You must be shit so I can beat you and feel better about myself!

Ok, I'll give you advice: pick Daimon, he's like Ryu but better, he has shoryuken and hadouken combined, also ninja moves.

PS3.

Dreamcancel for game info wiki, movelist, SNK discussion, info updates, stuff like that.

SNK Wiki if you wanna learn about the characters, game histories, etc.

Fighters Generation if you wanna stare at all the artowrk and pixel art animations SNK has made over the years...

I'll be on 360 myself.
